OBD2 CEL???
From : billygoat
Q: my 2000 318 was running ruff and the check engine lite came on so i replaced the plugs and plug wires. now its running ok but the check engine lite is still on three days later. the guy at the parts store said that on the obd2 systems that the lite would never go off by itself that you had to turn it off with the scanner. is this a fact dont seem right to me that you would have to pay someone to turn it off everytime it comes on. thanks bill .

turn it off with the scanner. is this a fact dont seem right to me that you would have to pay someone to turn it off everytime it comes on. yep. disconnect the battery for a half-hour - that will clear out the codes. but - before you do that retrieve them by cycling the ignition switch three times. the codes will be displayed on the odometer. make sure they were just cylinder misfire codes and there isnt still some other problem. you can do an online search for obd-ii diagnostic codes and find many sites with a list of the various codes and their meanings. .

just running it will shut it off too... it depends on why it came on in the first place. sometimes they reset after x number of miles/kilometers number of startups and/or number of warm-ups. it will eventually shut off assuming that whatever caused it to come on in the first place is gone... good luck it may be worth checking out properly once.. say you are on holidays and most dealers will check it for nothing. i know this because that is the only time mine ever came on... while i was towing.. mark. thanks to all who responded. bill my 2000 318 was running ruff and the check engine lite came on so i replaced the plugs and plug wires. now its running ok but the check engine lite is still on three days later. the guy at the parts store said that on .
