OBD code P0440

Q: whenever i accelerate a little aggresively i hear a fast tapping noise from the engine. it dies off when i ease back on the gas or reach a constant speed. any ideas i have an 01 ram 1500 v8 4wd.......thanks sounds like pinging which i get when i use 87 or 89 octane. throw a tank of 93 in there and i bet your tapping goes away! sometimes like when gas goes over $2 i put in the lower grade i also get pinging and it usually is only obvious on acceleration. er .

gary gary@gvtc.com wrote well folks i found out what the obd code above was telling me. i decided to make an appointment with the dealership after removing and reinstalling the gas cap. someone had mentionted that might be the culprit. even removing it reinstalling it and driving for over 100 miles didn do a thing so i reasoned it must be something else. wrong. the night before i was to take it in i decided to fill it with gas. after filling got in and started it up. no more light. now anyone know why sticking a gas filler nozzle in the tank access would do anything that removing and reinstalling the gas cap wouldnt for the evap monitor to run the fuel level has to be between 15% and 85%. .

do you have power steering bet youre hearing the noise of the fluid flowing thru the hoses. budd i cant quite figure out what is causing this. i have a 2000 dodge dakota. if the engine is on and i turn the steering wheel back and forth there is a little whoosh sound for want of a better description. it almost sounds like the sound when someone is walking wearing corduroy pants. it makes that sound consistently when you turn the steering wheel. however with the engine turned off it doesnt make the sound at all. any ideas .

tbone wrote what makes you greedy are your ideas and beliefs. it just keeps getting funnier every day! so a poor person can be greedy so its not how much i make nor how much i have that makes me greedy but im greedy none the less. priceless! its also in direct opposition to his comment that all persons making too much money were greedy. there should never be a limit to what someone can earn. that is true. no that is greed. no its not. greed is someone who wishes to set limits on what others can do in their lives. hmm sounds like tom and his wage limits idea. or its called jeolousy. which is a real reason for greed. what i or anyone else makes is not up to you to decide and set limits on. didnt we beat this dead horse with him before thats what communism tries to do. they do not want wealthy people among their society well except for politicians. ah . . .its animal farm all over again . . .to paraphrase yogi berra. what a weak argument. what makes it greed is when you take all that you can knowing that it comes at the expence of others. its always at the expense of others. every dime you have came from someone else. have you ever once told an employer that you are making too much and are greedy and request a pay cut heck no employees are always underpaid and everyone above them is greedy and overpaid right how does this make me wrong. all that says is that they are either more greedy than you or are simply ahead of you. ok so now there are degrees of being greedy. first you used the figure of $200000 but when i told you thats more than i make you changed to say its just views that make me greedy. so now it makes no difference if i am wealthy or poor im still greedy. priceless! not priceless just a t-bone-ism. now if you mean worthless id have to agree. lol when did i say that. you did state that many corporate owners have already made back their investment. so if they still earn some arbitary salary in excess of tbones greedy-o-meter then they are greedy and do not deserve what they make. lol that is the point miles they put money away and invest during their years of hard work and retire and live off of that. you want to continue to take your full salary for no contribution which raises the cost of doing business for your company for no valid reason. bullcrap. to retire you must invest in something other than your own company to not be greedy their company is their investment. thats a concept you just cant realize. there are a lot of concepts he cant or wont realize. this is greed miles pure and simple but tell me are you going to offer this deal to all of your employees who i am sure work as hard as you do did they invest and risk large sums of money on the company if the company folds do the employees loose anywheres near what the owners and investors loose you seem to miss the concept that there are differences in whats been invested and whom takes on the most risks. in a communistic mindset there can be no levels . . .except for those that are more level than the rest that is. however those more level castes can only be recognized by those more worthy of being more level. and thats the level on that. btw going down to phoenix again this weekend. my son is quitting the school because hes not gaining ny knowledge and getting in trouble yep theyre actually lowering his grades because hes ahead of the class. leaving fri a.m. about 600. hows the weather been down there well be towing a small utility trailer behind the lebaron and im not sure about front wheel drive and trailers on snow. .

lol gee i try to be nice and you still act like an asshole. oh well i tried. i buy the equipment so that i can see what is wrong and work from there. exactly what equipment do you think that they use to find these leaks and btw a small leak will not set that code. i guess that you are not as smart as i thought never mind. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving tbone wrote why dont you just buy a code reader and reset it yourself. despite our differences you do seem like an intelligent guy and im sure you can find these leaks as well as they can and save yourself some $$$ oh geez now why didnt i think of that the dealer can perform a smoke test that i cant easily. small leaks are not easy to find without the proper equipment. who needs a reader just disconnect the battery for a bit. kind of a pain to have to reset it every day when the code comes right back. is this the way you fix things .
From : mac davis
tbone wrote it would do both. it would do neither. the current system does not need fixing. lol only because you think that it doesnt. why is your idiot trying to do it with gay marriage. youre really into this name calling thing arent you for the right people but that doesnt answer my question now does it. btw with the names that you have been calling me you have little room to talk. the rules exist to limit the number of people running to those that meet a reasonable set of requirements to cut down on time and expences to run the election and all of the ones above can be justified. the place of birth rule no longer serves any valid purpose and restricts the valid choices of the american voter. it serves the same purpose as age residency term limits etc. for the same reason you noted. the fact you disagree doesnt change its purpose. it does not and you have yet to back that up. it restricts the voters choice for no valid reason. it serves no purpose other than segregation and that is wrong any way you try to spin it. yes because i am one of the few in here that is not to the extreme right. no youre an extreme left wing warped minded liberal who thinks theyre moderate. sorry miles but you have shown that anything that is not to the extreme right to you is just warped liberal thinking. i am a moderate that does lean toward the left because if i am wrong i would rather error toward the people rather than big business. you otoh could give a rats ass about anything but money. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

greetings from hell. it took me 3 weeks to drive 1200 miles all because of my poor ol dodge. i have a 1977 w-200 with the no-hubs full time four wheel drive. its powered by a 318 and i was told by an auto wrecker that the rear differential is 4.10 and the front is 4.09. about 1000 ft up the hwy 80 mountain between ca and reno i lost the front differential. i turned my ring gear to pulp. so i made the way to the top in lock after pulling the front driveline....at 2am in the morning while pulling an 18ft trailer. well hey! half the fun is the story-right i still got a little clanking so i popped the front cover unbolted the ring gear and took a torch and cut it out. no more noise and the truck runs fine in hi lock and new 90 lb gear oil. but since it is also an m-886 military ambulance that ive put alot of time in to fridge inverter lexus seats and power steering id like to fix it; but it looks like id be out about $800. i dont know anything about differentials. however i can probably change a whole front end cheaper from a wrecking yard than getting it fixed. this finally brings me to my question do any of you know whether a newer front end could replace the old one so that i could lock and unlock the hubs that also has a 4.09 gear ratio for a direct swap i would think they all ought to be pretty similar until one gets to the new-look dodges around the early 90s. does anyone know thank you......... oh yah......i was at a u.s. forest service auction in missoula mt two weeks ago. they sold a package of six new still crated rearends for my truck. total price for the six..........$140. sure you could put a new front axle in it with locking hubs but that would serve no purpose. you would constantly have to drive it around in the 4 wheel lock position whenever you unlocked the front hubs so you would be in no better position than you are now. since you would still be rotating the same mass you would get no better mileage with about half of the traction. you could also swap out the transfer case for a part time unit but the increase in mileage will be minimal if even noticeable and will never recoup the cost of the parts never mind the fabrication and work required to put them in. the vehicle is what it is and your best bet is to just fix or replace the front axle with the same one it already has and at 6 for $140 how could you go wrong. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

lawrence tnloaswpraemnmcien5g@earthlink.net writes theres a product available dont recall the name - saw it on two guys garage specifically designed to clean the a/c evaporator... its a foam that gets sprayed inside by snaking a rubber hose up the condensate drain. the foam expands coats everything inside and dissolves and evaporates on its own. it does the same thing - kills the little critters. sure wish i knew more about auto a/c systems. so dang many of the shops have horrible reputations for gouging high-dollar ripoffs shot-gunning systems with unneeded parts because they cant or are too lazy to find the real problem or patch back together a system that previously ran fine for 5-7 years but thereafter begins requiring expensive rework every 2 years or pouring in a damned sealant and then red-tagging it. damnit anyway if it ran fine for the first 5-7 years why the dickens cant it be fixed right and give another 5-7 years faithful service do that for me and i wouldnt mind so much paying $5-600. .

ill keep that in mind and try it someday. dont have time to mess around like that. thanks for the tip. lawrence tnloaswpraemnmcien5g@earthlink.net writes where it starts and how to blow it out from the other end i dont know and was wondering if anyone out there knew how. the other end is inside the hvac unit behind the dash... youre not getting to that. best bet is to get some flexible pipe cleaners/brushes and go at it from the drain end. see if you can remove the elbow so you have a better shot inside the tube. the hvac folks tell my im off my rocker but what has worked for me both to keep this line cleaned out as well as to thwart the dirty sweatsocks smell is to once a year backflush the condensate drain line with common household rubbing alcohol. i use a 4 piece of 3/8 copper tubing with sort of a j bent into the bottom end. i route this down through the engine compartment and connect this j to the end of the drain tube using a short piece of rubber tubing and a miniature hose clamp. back on top another short piece of rubber tubing and a small funnel. i keep pouring rubbing alcohol into the line until it runs out of the condenser inside the cab. plain rubbing alcohol wont harm the carpet and will quickly evaporate. then i place a catch pan i.e. an old cake pan under the truck and disconnect the copper tubing and let the alcohol run back out into the pan. i use a shop rag as a kind of crud filter and pour the recovered alcohol back into the bottle for reuse next year. seems to work. .

sackattack84 wrote my 94 ram 1500 5.2l runs like crap when i first fire it up after it sits for a while. the idle is rough and kinda reminds me of the idle lope of a big cammed street engine. it also surges as it warms. by the time the temp guage starts to move it smoothes out and runs real well but feels like its missing or choking out until then. the truck has a brand new thermostat coolant temp sensor o2 sensor cat air filter fuel pump fairly fresh plugs and wires new egr valve and a new pcv valve. it also has a normal manifold vaccuum reading and is not displaying any computer trouble codes. running out of ideas somebody help! thanks! my 01 ram 5.2l auto started acting like this too when the original battery got weak. as soon as the dealer put a new one in the engine smoothed out. im on my 3rd battery now at 53000 miles. now that the truck is out of warranty ill replace this mopar battery with a die hard when it bites the dust. the mopars dont seem to last long. might want to get your load tested. bob .
