No Reverse (automatic) on old Army PU

Q: my 77 truck wont move in reverse. i can hear a low whirring noise but thats all. somebody asked if it moves in low gear yes it does when i put the selector in low position. can anybody give any possible scenarios thanks .

my 77 truck wont move in reverse. i can hear a low whirring noise but thats all. somebody asked if it moves in low gear yes it does when i put the selector in low position. can anybody give any possible scenarios place the shifter in 1st accelerate to around 10 mph and then throttle back. if the truck just coasts no engine braking you have a faulty rear band. the problem could be the need of a simple adjustment or the band itself or its associated anchor links have broken. the pan needs to be removed to determine the exact problem. john .
