Niosey Transmission in this recent cold weather in the east
From : johniefree
Q: hi all i was just wonderingever since these 0-10 degree highs we been having in the northest lately.i have a 99 dakota slt 3.9 v6 magnumwhen i start out in the morning.or after sitting a while.my 4 speed automatic transmission with overdrive makes a whining noise when starting outsome times seems to slip upon acceleration.does not matter if in reverse or drive.when i drive for 2-5 minutes the whining goes away and the transmission seems to work fine once at operation temperature it this normal for extremely cold weather0 degrees out sideor signs of a tourqe converter going bad also it there a way to warm up the transmission fasterlike idle in drivecant here any noise until i actually goto to accelerate i let the engine get upto operation temperature before leavingbut does not help.i have to actually drive to ge the transmission to warm up.i tried idling in nutralbut this does not help either.alsoif this is normali read in the groups about sticking transmission valves in cold wetherif i keep driving this way until things warm up outsideis there and chance of this causing serious damage to my transmission/torque converter.its suppose to get upto 25 degress tomarrowheat wave compared to recent temperatures-2 as i type ill see if nooise is still present in warmer temperatures. .
