what year did dodge start making the dakota in the new body design 1997 model year are there any known problems that commonly come with the dakotas with the new body design many people seem to have problems with the ball joints. the 318 v8 is prone to having its intake plenum gasket failing sucking oil into the intake and causing engine pinging. neither problem is a huge deal and can be dealt with without much of a problem replace plenum gasket with rtv and replace worn ball joints with aftermarkets .
