New brakes less effective than old?
From : lioyd parker
Q: got a 92 dodge d250 with front disk and rear drum brakes. just got it back from my mechanic with new napa premium pads/shoes original rotors and drums machined and the brake fluid flushed out and filled. the brakes dont feel dangerously bad or anything but they do feel noticeably less effective than they did with the old pads/shoes and i wonder how long i should drive it around to let the brakes seat in before i take it back and ask for the system to be inspected and maybe re-bled. seems to me every time i turn around the common wisdom on this changes. stop extra-hard for the first hundred miles take it easy on the brakes for the first hundred miles dont do anything special etc. .

the key to disc brake effectiveness is the non directional surface required on the rotors and a very smooth finish this will allow maximum pad to rotor contact obtaining the highest coefficient of friction for a given set of pads. yes a drive cycle break in is also important. got a 92 dodge d250 with front disk and rear drum brakes. just got it back from my mechanic with new napa premium pads/shoes original rotors and drums machined and the brake fluid flushed out and filled. the brakes dont feel dangerously bad or anything but they do feel noticeably less effective than they did with the old pads/shoes and i wonder how long i should drive it around to let the brakes seat in before i take it back and ask for the system to be inspected and maybe re-bled. seems to me every time i turn around the common wisdom on this changes. stop extra-hard for the first hundred miles take it easy on the brakes for the first hundred miles dont do anything special etc. -----= posted via feeds.com uncensored usenet =----- http//www.feeds.com - the #1 group service in the world! -----== over 100000 groups - 19 different servers! =----- .
