From : wayne j

Q: i have had three dodge trucks so far a 92 dakota a 02 ram and a 04 ram none with diesel. loved them all but now we went a bought a bigger trailer so my wife and i just bought a new 07 ram slt quad cab 2500 with the 5.9 cummins diesel tonight and will pick it up on tuesday. now before i get flamed silly i have read searched and hunted a pile of groups goolge etc and cannot find consistant answers to the simplist questions for a new diesel owner. no manual yet either. so this is why i am asking the group. 1 what is a break in period before i can tow the trailer. it is a 7200 lb travel trailer.i was told right away by the dealer and after 5000 kilometers by my neighbour who has an 05 mega cab 3500. 2 when should i change the original oil 3 i have been told three answers to this question how many miles kilometers between regular oil changes should i expect one guy said 12000 kilomters 7000 miles another said 10000 kilomters 6000 miles and another said every 5000 kilomters.3000 miles. i am used to changing the 04 hemi every 5000 kilometers. 4 can you really run any of the diesel fuels in the 07 5.9 cummins or must i only use the ultra low sulphur fuel. any other special things to watch out for i promise i will read the manual when i get it but i just want some real world opinions. i know these sound pretty simple to most of you but ..................... thanks wayne .

1 what is a break in period before i can tow the trailer. it is a 7200 lb travel trailer.i was told right away by the dealer and after 5000 kilometers by my neighbour who has an 05 mega cab 3500. id go 250 miles just to get things started. then load the hell out of the truck pull a couple of cars and a boat all at the same time if you are so inclined. loading helps seat the rings. if you dont load the engine itll take years to fully break it in. no im not exaggerating. -- max join www.devilbrad.com and find out what free exchange of info is all about. there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author i have had three dodge trucks so far a 92 dakota a 02 ram and a 04 ram none with diesel. loved them all but now we went a bought a bigger trailer so my wife and i just bought a new 07 ram slt quad cab 2500 with the 5.9 cummins diesel tonight and will pick it up on tuesday. now before i get flamed silly i have read searched and hunted a pile of groups goolge etc and cannot find consistant answers to the simplist questions for a new diesel owner. no manual yet either. so this is why i am asking the group. 4 can you really run any of the diesel fuels in the 07 5.9 cummins or must i only use the ultra low sulphur fuel. any other special things to watch out for i promise i will read the manual when i get it but i just want some real world opinions. i know these sound pretty simple to most of you but .................... thanks wayne .

advanced stages of chipping are not compatible with towing. i dont understand that. please explain. well its a combination of high hp/torque levels combined with a hot-rod approach to driving thats not really towing-compatible. for instance with 16k hanging off the back and the engines power dialed up to say 500hp at the wheels it would be bad to mash the pedal at take-off.... parts are probably going to fly out from under the truck. what ratio do you think would be better 4.10 4.30 or 4.56 what about a torque splitter any recommendations there i wouldnt go more than 4.10 as was stated earlier 4.30 gears arent available - the next lower gear is a 4.56. with a 4.56 gear youre red-lining the engine at 60mph with overdrive locked out.... not good. in my previous post i outlined a possible upgrade path. if the truck still doesnt perform as well as youd like you can always change gears then. youre not losing anything as youd most likely want the power-adder anyway because the 9% mech. advantage of the lower gears alone probably wont cut it and you may be saving the cost of two sets of gears in the process. .

something tells me that they have to pump the old stuff out first. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving 4 can you really run any of the diesel fuels in the 07 5.9 cummins or must i only use the ultra low sulphur fuel. in the states all youre going to get is low sulfur unless your buy fuel thats for off road use. more than likely you wont find it at a fuel station. the engine in your truck was designed to work with the low sulfur fuel. its hard to find low sulpher diesel fuel in the atlanta area. they started switching over to ultra low sulpher about 6 months ago. one concern of mine is for the guys that must use ulsd. what happens when a station switches over from lsd the fuel not the drug to ulsd do they empty the storage tank completely before getting a ulsd shipment can they dump 500 gallons of ulsd into a 250000 gallon tank half full of lsd and sell it as ulsd how does the customer know for sure if something like that happens and it causes engine damage how can the customer prove which station he bought the mislabled tank of fuel from my 99 ctd is giving me a bit of trouble right now but i wont even consider replacing it with a new one for a few more years. -- ken .
