New 2004 Durango
From : iman nassoul
Q: i just looked at the 2004 durango while waiting for the service dept to look at my 2003. although it looks larger on the outside i could not tell much difference inside. you do sit higher in it. i noticed as i was getting out that is it a few inches taller no running boards on this one. i like the instrumentation. it has the indiglo backlighting. the center console is much smaller. they put drink holders on the backside of it. its also not very deep. the cargo area on the one i saw a 5 seater has a plastic area between the under floor cargo holds. i would think the cargo area should be completely carpeted. the things i haul around would scratch it up pretty badly. hmmm. i wonder if a mopar cargo mat is available the front cargo hold has been divided with storage compartments. it is deeper that the previous models. it seems to have 5 less hp than the previous 4.7l 230hp vs 235 previously. mileage did improve by 1 mpg though. overall i think i like the more curvatious body style. maybe after seeing the new ones for a while ill get to like them. or not. .

living in southern california i do not see much snow at all. and what snow i see in the local mountains here is about a foot deep so that is never an issue. it rains for just a few days out of the year so i really dont think awd would be very helpful here. its just a status symbol here. i was looking through the auto trader the other day 2003 chevy 2500hd diesel 4x4 long bed crewcab 12 lift. more mods then a monster truck then the last line. never been offroad its all about image here. i agree you about the idiots. how many transmission have been burn out because someone thinks a 4x4 or awd can go through any amount of snow. ive been reading up on awd. unless it has the ability electronically to control slippage its worthless. sorta like what a corvette or porsche has for its sports car control slippage. .

i would like to see them put the hemi in the current dak! or even down size it to the older bodystyle size that would be a very nice package. people will buy it because its new. i am afraid the new dak will follow suit with the durango. the dak will no longer be a mid sized truck. sure it will be smaller then he ram but it wont be small. id love to see a durango thats about two-thirds the size of the new one. the 4.7 in an suv like that would outrun the hemi durango... .

unfortunately it looks like im going to have to go to another automaker to get a small truck. that is unless they stick a 200hp 24mpg diesel v6 in the newer dakota.... when the next oil embargo hits you can buy tazzs awd cheap ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

i would like to see them put the hemi in the current dak! or even down size it to the older bodystyle size that would be a very nice package. yeah theyve really gone nuts with making things bigger. my 92 dak w/ 318 and extended cab weighed in at 3700lbs and got 19/21mpg. when they went to the newer-style dakota it gained 300-400lbs at least and lost 2-3mpg along w/ less speed/acceleration. the r/t is the only dak faster than the 92 v8 and even that is pretty close. = unfortunately it looks like im going to have to go to another automaker to get a small truck. that is unless they stick a 200hp 24mpg diesel v6 in the newer dakota.... people will buy it because its new. i am afraid the new dak will follow suit with the durango. the dak will no longer be a mid sized truck. sure it will be smaller then he ram but it wont be small. id love to see a durango thats about two-thirds the size of the new one. the 4.7 in an suv like that would outrun the hemi durango... .

i examined one 2 weeks ago. i found a few nice features ... adjustable brake & gas pedals middle seats with an easier release the dashboard instrumentation was sharp. ..... but .... they went way too overboard with the windshield ---- sloping it way across what should be more hood length ... creating an enormous amount of dashboard ---- roll out the sleeping bags for the children ... that could be a new scene in their commercials ---- camping with the kids --- on top of the dash! the engine compartment is pushed way under this expansive dash. i dont understand how a mechanic could access the engine for maintenance. ... kit iman nassoul wrote i just looked at the 2004 durango while waiting for the service dept to look at my 2003. although it looks larger on the outside i could not tell much difference inside. you do sit higher in it. i noticed as i was getting out that is it a few inches taller no running boards on this one. i like the instrumentation. it has the indiglo backlighting. the center console is much smaller. they put drink holders on the backside of it. its also not very deep. the cargo area on the one i saw a 5 seater has a plastic area between the under floor cargo holds. i would think the cargo area should be completely carpeted. the things i haul around would scratch it up pretty badly. hmmm. i wonder if a mopar cargo mat is available the front cargo hold has been divided with storage compartments. it is deeper that the previous models. it seems to have 5 less hp than the previous 4.7l 230hp vs 235 previously. mileage did improve by 1 mpg though. overall i think i like the more curvatious body style. maybe after seeing the new ones for a while ill get to like them. or not. .
