NV3500 Transmission

Q: jasper wrote 2003 4x4 1500 quad cab 4.7 liter. i bought the truck new and it now has almost 20000 miles on it. the manual transmission has had a very audible whine mostly in first and second gears and very slight in third since it was new. you can hear it inside and outside of the cab. i believe it is starting to get a little louder now. while it whines during acceleration it seems to be louder when decelerating. as a matter of fact you can even feel the vibration in the stick shift when decelerating in second gear and the rpms hit about 1800. i took back in to the dodge dealer a couple of weeks ago i have had them check it twice in the past when i had the truck in for a couple of minor repairs and they agreed it was indeed gear whine but needed to drive another truck to see if this was normal. they have yet to get back to me saying their transmission guy is awfully busy with automatic rebuilds right now and hasnt had a chance to drive another truck. i think it is total bs that he would even have to drive another rig to see if it sounds similar i have already done this myself and they run quiet. i think they are just blowing me off. i do not believe that in this day and age anyone would build a transmission that whines in the lower gears. it is not a 52 willys. anyone have similar experiences or opinions j mine - 2001 2wd 5.2l - only whines in reverse. another guy that used to post here always cursed his. he said the shift lever always got hot while driving too. his original trans apparently had some defect. but he might have been rough on the truck i tend to downshift hard with the throttle closed pulling some extreme vacuum. you can see warping in the hood of my 99 1500 at 125ish. speed governor kicks in around 129 after breaking some gears his new junkyard tranny was better. copy/paste just because i have it... the nv3500 is a medium duty 5-speed constant mesh fully synchronized manual transmission. the nv3500 is used with 3.9l and 5.2l engines and is available in 2wd and 4wd configurations. the transmission gear case consists of two aluminum housings. the clutch housing is not a removable component. it is an integral part of the transmission front housing. a combination of roller and ball bearings are used to support the transmission shafts in the two housings. the transmission gears all rotate on caged type needle bearings. a roller bearing is used between the input and output shafts. the nv3500 has a single shaft shift mechanism with all three shift forks mounted on the shaft. the shaft is supported in the front and rear housings by bushings and one linear ball bearing. internal components consist of the forks shaft shift lever socket and detent components. the transmission is disassembled and serviced by unbolting and splitting the case into a front half and a back half. manufactured by new venture gear input torque rating 300 ft-lb max gvwr 7200 lb max gcvwr 11000 lb fluid capacity 4.8 pints to the bottom of the fill plug weight with oil 110 lb mopar manual transmission lubricant pn 4761525 is the only lubricant recommended for the nv3500. fill plug front housing on passenger side drain plug bottom of the front housing wide ratio used in 1500 gear ratio 1st 4.01 2nd 2.32 3rd 1.40 4th 1.00 5th 0.73 r 3.55 .

on tue 26 jun 2007 172445 -0700 miles nope@nopers.com wrote mac davis wrote ive seen a lot of bugs and scorpions since oct. but about 90% of them have been dead... stuff works pretty good.. we have not had any trouble with scorpions. we did back in the 70s when our house was the only one in the area with nothing but desert surrounding. as it filled in with homes the scorpions disappeared. black widows are common. so are termites. we see scorps mostly when we or our neighbor had done landscaping or such... disturbed their habitat i guess... now if they have a spray to repel/kill rattlesnakes im there and stocking up... mac please remove splinters before emailing .
