Q: got a borgeson. i have a dodge ram 1500 4x4 1999. i recently took it to the shop because while driving i can feel through the steering wheel all sorts of thuds and thumps that feels like its coming from near the end of the steering column. going around long corners i can really feel it. itll thump on and off throughout the whole corner. sometimes ill feel it just driving straight. its not a vibration or shimmy. one way i can try to explain it is it feels like someone is lightly tapping the steering column with a rubber hammer. its sporadic and holds no type of rhythm. so the guy in the shop says well your upper and lower ball joints have some play in it your tie-rod end has some play in it your wheel bearings have some play in it your track bar has some play in it. so i assumed he knew what he was taking about.... so after finding out that my guardian insurance plan paid for almost $600 of these repairs i had him do it all. the problem is still there. i couldnt believe it. i almost have a brand new front end basically. but yet the thumping knocking general unsafe feeling is still there. i just put new rotors calipers and pads on the front both sides. so its not a break vibration. i dont know much about this part of the truck so do you guys have any suggestions on where this could be coming from thanks steve . 222 304003 y6uhe.584$3m4.33@svr27..prodigy.net on 2 aug 2005 094328 -0700 martin funkychateauspam@yahoo.com wrote im working on a 1996 dodge ram van 3500 1-ton series 360 v8 automatic. can anyone tell me the locations of inline replaceable fuel filters for this vehicle please reply to group or email me at funkychateau at yahoo not the reply to address. thanks martin on my 92 b250 its on the passenger side on the frame rail just in front of the rear tire. it was there on the earlier models. the models after 1993-1994 have an integral filter inside the fuel tank. they are not considered as maintenance items. of course they can be changed by dropping the tank removing the pump and filter assembly etc. .

what vehicle/model/engine do you have in the dakotas circa 1999-2003 there was a problem with the fuel pump failing every 20k-50k miles. design issue. about two years ago dc redesigned the fuel pump/filter assy because there was a lot of warranty work bieng done. it wouldnt be a bad idea to have someone put a mechanical guage on the fuel rail and verify the rail pressure again. dodge trucks have no cel or fault codes associated with low fuel pressure unless its reeeeealy low maybe though their techs will tell you they do. they kept telling me that. no fault codes! check the rail pressure. no need computer would throw a code! bull shit. 15 diferent dodge dealers blew me off on that one point. take it to a jeep dealer if you want to see a dealer about it. jeep check the rail pressure that after i asked them to and found the problem. it had just been replaced the previous year 35k miles previous. on 3 aug 2005 095701 -0700 martin funkychateauspam@yahoo.com wrote ok i believe the consensus is that the filter is not serviceable nor intended to need service. the fuel pump was replaced about two years ago. symptoms of the vehicle include stumbling and losing power after being driven for a mile or so. sometimes the poor running occurs sooner and sometimes it may make a trip to the store and back without incident. in the past i had associated similar behavior of other vehicles to clogged filters it sounds like this is probably not the case here as the filter must have been designed so large as to never clog are there other usual suspects i should check the cel is not lit and it does work as indicated upon startup. does this mean reading codes would be unproductive thanks martin .

the reason that the transmission computer is always replaced when a transmission goes out is pre-96 tcms did not have the quick-learn feature re-using the old tcm you are stuck with the cvis that were in it when the transmission failed cvis can be thought of as the controller adapting to clutch wear this causes a severe bind-up on the 2-3 shift for the first 10-12 shifts until the cvis adapt to the new unit; so severe in some cases that it almost throws you into the steering wheel it is possible to rapidly reset them by doing full-bore 3-1 down-shifts about 5-6 times followed by 5-6 of 4-2 full-bore down shifts but until it adapts you are scorching clutches on every shift with the quick learn you hook up a scan tool tell it to learn it instructs you to put the shifter in gears in a sequence the tcm learns that it has a new set of clutches in the pack and re-sets itself seems to me they would have a way to reset the controller tcm to get it back to some safe generic settings. no wonder it costs so much to repair a car now. the scary part is what percentage of people working on this stuff actually know what they are doing everything is getting so frigging complicated. al .
