or was i my 1999 dodge ram 4x4 had i think what they call a cat-back muffler system it sounded tough and had dual exhaust. money is tight right now in the old household so i figured seeing how it was time to replace the muffler and pipes that it would be too expensive to get the same system put back on my truck. so i went to kost tire and muffler here in upstate ny opting for just the plain jane tail pipe and muffler all the way from the converter on back. first he wanted to charge me $310.00. i somehow talked him down to $278.00. i also asked him how much two snow tires would be for a 98 camry $110.00 was his lowest price on the tires. i declined but i had them put the muffler and pipe on. i almost walked out but wasnt sure where else to go. i think im gonna learn how to do these myself. i later paid $65 a piece for some damn good snow tires elsewhere.. did i get hosed on the exhaust thanks steve .

william. boyd wrote nosey wrote william. boyd wrote in the event the fuel cap comes loose what effect does this have on the engine. there is a little note that near the cap that it will turn on the engine service light. i was on my way down town and was going to refuel any way. still had about a eighth of a tank. the engine started to acting like it had fuel starvation i hurried in to the station added the additive and filled it up. but i thought the fuel cap was loose when i took it off almost certain it was. after refueling i had no further problems with the engine. i did not notice the engine service light coming on. if your light was on because of the loose gas cap it probably set a code in the computer. stop at an autozone and have the codes read for you free if you cant do it yourself and let us know what you got. what year/model/engine truck do you have i have the 04 2500 ram with 5.9 ho cumins. but i didnt notice a light on before the engine started starving for fuel. sorry i mis-read your post. .

thanks for the info tom. i looked it up and it shows 12800. it changes my transmission from a 5 speed manual to an automatic plus it doesnt include crew cab...just quad cab. i dont know that it makes that big a difference. another question if you dont mind entertaining questions from a novice... is there a difference between a 5-wheel and a gooseneck i thought it was the same also i would guess that trailer brakes are a must...but what about installing an engine brake if you are towing close to the max i would imagine its a good idea...or are the trucks brakes adequate the primary difference between a fifth wheel and a gooseneck is the hitch mechanism. both couple to a hitch in the bed of the truck. virtually all rvs with a bed hitch use a fifth wheel setup while most agricultural and some horse trailers use a gooseneck hitch. virtually all rvs will come equipped with electric brakes and when used with a good controller see prodigy post elsewhere in this ng will do an adequate job of stopping with the trucks standard brakes. an exhaust brake may be useful with a diesel engine due to the lack of compression braking inherent in a diesel. the exhaust brake can come in handy on long mountainous descents when you are loaded to capacity. i tow about 8-9k with my 03 cummins and have not found the need for an exhaust brake but then im nowhere near the capacity of my truck. mike .

tom my apologies. you are absolutely correct. the manual states that the 3750 interval is for the california 235 hp variant only. it is certainly misleading. dc went to extrodinary lengths just to state that tier 1 exception if it is only for the left coast models. however i am a good test of all those tier 1 provisions. i commute 5 miles to work and when i hit the german autobahn i am up against the red line 90% of the time. chapter 8 maintenance schedules page 385 every 3750 miles. do you see the little cross and diamond symbols the diamond symbol which appears every 7500 miles denotes tier 1 epa 250hp or 305hp engines only the cross symbol which appears every 3750 miles denotes california lev 235hp engines only so unless you have a 235hp engine you would fall under the 7500 mile interval. the 3750 interval has absolutely nothing to do with maintaining the engine and everything to do with cas emissions laws. oh yeah i forgot about the left coast requirements. kinda confusing if you ask me... ill bet thats what steve is talking about. mike .

maybe if you send each of us a dozen home made chocolate chip cookies well let you stay..... vbg denny preamble monday i went to the philadelphia auto show and fell in love with alot of trucks! i was surprised that there were more there than the ram that i could love. all in all i really loved the ram look back in the 90s but now im not so keen on it. but anyway i have visited the dodge dealerships around here lately and havent been too impressed. slime-ball car salesmen were all i ran into at the dodge dealerships and this wasnt so 10 years ago or even 3 years ago when i thought about buying a new truck then and went with the ptcruiser instead. i was really turned off by the dodge dealerships.... so i visited a few other dealerships of trucks that i liked at the autoshow...... friday i turned in my truck. it had 98000 miles on it... it was a 95 ram 1500 larime slt 2wd longbed. heres where i eat my words from a post a few weeks ago.... well kinda.... i bought a nissan titan kingcab. yeah its a foreign company but the truck is made in ohio. its an 04 new off-road 4x4. i gotta tell you its nice. they gave me kelly blue book for trade in on the truck. wasnt bad been having a few problems with the truck lately. noticed the rear bumpers chrome peeling and the bottom of the door had started to rust on the drivers side. besides that the air-conditioning didnt work. i cried when they took away my truck. the guys in the dealership musta thought i was nuts! i still cry thinking about it today. dont get me wrong... i love driving the titan but its just not the same... the ram was my first new vehicle and i loved it to death. now its just like yeah i got a new truck big deal. there are memories in that truck... 10 years worth. i know ill have my memories forever and even a new ram wouldnt have done the trick. i sure hope you guys will still let me hang out and be dodgeewe and dodgebabe... would sure miss you guys if i had to go esp. since i just started to hang back out michele -- .
