Q: housing and cover re-apply a bead of silicone to the cover re-install the cover and re-fill with gear oil. oh and as far as installing the new stud whether you can do it with the axle installed or not slip the stud into the hole stack a few washers over the stud and install the lug nut. tighten the lugnut down by hand until the ridges on the shoulder of the stud grab and the stud no longer wants to turn as you tighten the lugnut then tighten the lug nut down all the way until the stud is fully seated. an impact gun is handy for this task. what is the proper troque for the nuts check the owners manual but i believe its 95ft.lbs. im not using the impact gun anymore to put these nuts on not tight anyway. unless you were using the impact gun to start the lugnuts thereby cross-threading them or unless you have an exceedingly powerful impact gun a 3/4 or 1 gun with a 175psi air supply to run it its doubtful that the use of the impact gun caused the stud to strip. regardless its always a good practice to use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts says the guy who always tightens his with his impact gun... ah well . 222 294082 xf9qd.50976$qj3.4161@svr21..prodigy.com did i miss something did you report anything yet not yet. im on the 3rd tank w/ emp now. the first tank didnt count because i bought a boat right after i started the test and had to tow it to the lake a few times g. of course my mileage was worse because of that. the second tank i used no emp since i was still haulin the boat around. the third tank was my 2nd dose of emp and am now 1/2 way thru the third dose of emp. tank1 boat towing was 9.5 so we throw that one out. tank2 w/emp was 10.8 tank3...to be determined. of course it needs to be an average and although my couple of tanks before the test averaged 10.2 my overall average has been 10.9. that however was with freeway driving as well. lately its been no freeway hence the 10.2 and im trying to keep it that way for the test to be as fair as possible. --mike and so -- fmb only one b in fmb .

it doesnt have auto locking hubs. it is warn locking hubs. i understand that never said auto-locking hubs... i said manual. its just that with the ability to lock/unlock the hubs a central axle disconnect isnt needed and from what ive read wasnt available in 89. im guessing a previous owner swapped in a newer front axle from a 94+ truck and cobbled the cad system together becuase he didnt like getting out and locking the hubs manually. shafts to connect them together. the shift fork is being forced out of place i think thats why my lights is going off in the dash. most likely. since youre stuck with a cad-equipped front axle id still just remove the entire cad system and replace it with a posi-lok. simple and reliable. .

just wanted to thank everyone for their responses via the group and email; ive made an appointment to have it done at the dealership as theyll fix it for $186 total which sounds quite reasonable in light of rammans estimate. btw i might not have been clear in my original post; it wasnt just the glass that got broken the whole unit was smashed. interestingly i found it in several yards in front of my truck but with no other damage iow it didnt hit my hood at all. i was parallel parked on a relatively narrow street so the logical assumption is that someone in a similarly-sized truck hit it with *their* passenger side mirror hopefully hard enough to at least cause them the same pain theyve given me! but considering that the whole unit flew that far without touching the hood makes me wonder if someone wasnt taking batting practice ... best ron .
