Mileage to start using synthetic

From : ianct

Q: 04 dakota currently at 2300 miles. ive heard varying opinions on when to start using synthetic based on when the engine is good and broken-in. ive heard 10k any others i usually use mobile-1 fully synthetic label any better and what oil filters are generally best should i stick to mopar fram or other doesnt need to be some hyped up overexpensive filter just one that will help ensure the engine keeps purring by the time its into the 200k range. first dodge can you tell tia -ianct .

04 dakota currently at 2300 miles. ive heard varying opinions on when to start using synthetic based on when the engine is good and broken-in. ive heard 10k any others start with it at your next change. i put mobil 1 in my 03 dakota at 1000 miles. no trouble at all its now at 10000 miles. no problem with oil use. i usually use mobile-1 fully synthetic label any better its a personal choice but i like this oil as well. and what oil filters are generally best should i stick to mopar fram or other doesnt need to be some hyped up overexpensive filter just one that will help ensure the engine keeps purring by the time its into the 200k range. mopar filters are made by fram. so i go with fram due to cost. the filter is not as important as the oil. changing synthetic oil at 5000 miles is overkill. check out this link... http//neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/oil-life.html.

i started my 4.7l 02 dakota on its diet of synthetic royal purple with a wix filter at 6000. i change it at every 4000 and as every thing else comes up front & rear ends trans. etc. i will be using products from royal purple for them. but that is my opinion do your own web searches and use what ever oil and filter you think is the best. 04 dakota currently at 2300 miles. ive heard varying opinions on when to start using synthetic based on when the engine is good and broken-in. ive heard 10k any others i usually use mobile-1 fully synthetic label any better and what oil filters are generally best should i stick to mopar fram or other doesnt need to be some hyped up overexpensive filter just one that will help ensure the engine keeps purring by the time its into the 200k range. first dodge can you tell tia -ianct .

unless there has been a big change wix filters seem to be better construction and media than fram. many of the other brands are also made by wix. check out their website. no connection just a happy customer. jim on mon 05 jan 2004 115209 -0600 rparkerspam@cableregina.com wrote rparkerspam@accesscomm.ca wrote mopar filters are made by fram. they certainly dont make the mopar filters for the cummins. what is your source that the remaining filters are made by fram jerry here is my source http//minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy-mopar.html .

ive never seen/heard of a hose collapsing -- but spose it could happen. the inner liner swells and in the course of use can break loose and form a flap or blockage. makes for a maddening bug in a hydraulic system. this is because it inevitably happens in a portion of the hose that cannot be seen so its not obvious. one clue is a whine or buzz but it may not make either. not a bad idea to check em anyway... one blown rubber hose and youve screwed things! actually its a good idea to change them as preventitive maintenance. not saying its done all the time but its a good idea. max thanks for the info. jim ought to feel lucky he doesnt have brake system issues i had w/ my 77. i wound up replacing/rebuilding nearly everything except the brake pedal itself! strangely the brake hoses *appeared* fine. i think ill take another look at em tho! went to haul the hotrod out to the bracket wars once... jumped in pushed on the brake pedal... thunk -- to the floor it went! problem rear tie-down chain hooked over the rear brake hose and cut it in two! doh! ya im a bit more careful since then lol bryan .

i never said that a restriction could not form in the hose i simply said that the flapper valve or hanging piece of rubber theory is a load of crap. tom dont pull that crap on me. ok if a flapper valve or hanging piece of rubber isnt a restriction what is it i knew darn well what gary meant but you just want to argue. now get your last word in and be done with it. denny .
