at 60 mph a second is 88 ft. ; they stop cold just fine for me. how long do you think that they are going to stay cold when you apply the brakes maybe a second. but some find they dont stop worth a shit cold... -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .... well guys its time to have a brake job. at 86xxx miles on a 2000 dak 4x4 they are getting paper thin. i went to a parts store to price out brake pads and got asked witch of the three i would like and i asked 3 organic metalic and what he said ceramic. there spendy but will stop your truck 50ft. sooner. sounded good. so group tell me the good and bad of the ceramic brakes other then there a tad bit spendy. are they worth it and how would ceramic pads hold up to a minnestoa winter. it gets cold here and ceramics can be brittle in the cold i have been told. thank you in advance patrick .

cheekspro@webtv.net mike cheek writes yeterday i thew the belt off ....it was needing replaced bad...parts of it got wrapped in air-cond. clutch...i removed it but now it seems its slipping....air isnt cool as normal.....worked great before the belt broke...can you replace clutch without removing compresser...can you even buy just clutch...whats the trick if any to remove clutch......thanks....mike before you throw the baby out with the bathwater check to be sure the clutch electrical cable is still plugged in to the clutch assembly and check to see that you possibly didnt break one of the wires. does the clutch still engage and/or disengage when operating the a/c if the belt was as bad as you say im surprised it wasnt screeching like a banshee long months before it broke. .

does anyone know specs input voltage impedance etc on stock infinity amplifier in durango 99 im thinking about replacing the stock radio but will probably leave amplifier in place. the infinity amp accepts speaker-level inputs from the head unit and it puts out about 12 watts rms per channel at a somewhat reasonable distortion level take that with a grain of salt. its rated at 160 watts but thats peak power at something like 8% thd. the only good thing about the infinity amp is that its got pre-programmed equalization to make the infinity speakers sound good relative term. chances are pretty good that any decent aftermarket head unit will have more power than the infinity so it may be better to simply bypass the infinity and go directly from your new head to the speakers. of course your best bet is to replace both the head unit and the speakers. thanks! ive already replaced rear & front speakers with kenwood 17cm ones infinity speakers were blown but left stock tweeters in place. also found pac swi-x adapter that will let me use control buttons on steering wheel! would you recommend tossing the amplifier and get a decently powered head unit or maybe get a head unit with no amp and re-use infinity amp can it be tricked into accepting line-out instead of speaker level inputs thx! peter .

now im a bit puzzled tom. the cummins is continually measuring the fuel pressure in the rail. doesnt the trip computer use that data or does it merely use a fixed number for the fuel pressure the latter approach would i admit help explain why the computer is mostly a bit off in its calculations. it wouldnt matter with respect to a pressure box because the way the pressure boxes work is to report false pressure readings to the rail pressure sensor which causes the pressure to rise higher than it otherwise would. the ecm isnt aware that its being lied to. in thinking about it some more i may be giving the trip computer too much credit. its probably just using pre-determined fuel flow rates from a table of engine rpm throttle position and calculated engine load. all this data is available right on the ccd bus so they can use the same design for all gas and diesel engines - just with different data sets for the particular engine in use. does petrol engines use fuel rail pressure sensor at all my 99 durango does not have one instead fuel pressure regulator is supposed to maintain 49 +- 5 psi at all times. that alone could account for error margin of 10% or so... peter .

now im a bit puzzled tom. the cummins is continually measuring the fuel pressure in the rail. doesnt the trip computer use that data or does it merely use a fixed number for the fuel pressure the latter approach would i admit help explain why the computer is mostly a bit off in its calculations. as an aside for me the most valuable calculation that trip computer does is dte. it often helps me to decide to refill now or later. john tom lawrence wrote snip thats why when with a diesel you add a pressure box to increase rail pressure the fuel economy calculations get all out of whack. the computer thinks it injected x amount of fuel becuase it did a 3ms injection event at 15000psi rail pressure. but the rail pressure was really at 17500psi so it really injected about 1.2x fuel... the computer thinks it used 17% less fuel than it actually did. so instead of your actual 17mpg that youre getting the computers reporting 19.8mpg. all numbers are used as examples only and may not have any real meaning - so put down the calculators .
