Manual Transmission Whine

From : hodad

Q: i have a 2003 qc 4x4 4.7 manual 5 speed trans with 2700 miles on it. it has had a very noticable whine from the tranny in 1st and 2nd gears and barely audible in 3rd. i have just assumed this to be normal with this truck until a friend questioned me about it recently. does anyone out there have experience with this transmission and is this normal or should i take it in to be looked at the whine hasnt gotten any louder or quieter since i bought it in may. love this truck! hd .

hey hodad ive been in small engine repair for many years and youd be surprised at the number of supposedly educated people that dont ever check the oil in their brand new lawn mower. . .how well do you think they check their cars and trucks you wouldnt be the first to never have had it checked ok get over it. red was only teasing you a bit. i asked the question to cover your butt for you just in case and eliminate the possibility you had screwed up the transmission. sheeesh! so third gear whine its probably the gear you use most around town 35 mph or less and when you do finally pull out on the interstate you either shift down to it from 4th or just kick the gas in third to start accelerating to highway speed depending on your speed and the gear youre in at the time. i used to also drive civilian truck some and and trained dump truck drivers for the in national guard. every bob-tailed rig with a 5 speed main box had that whine every army 5 ton dump with the spicer 5 speed had it and the reason i gave above is why. your truck is just essentially a smaller version of a bob-tail truck. you just dont have a two speed axle to screw up as well. now go shove it up yours. budd hodad wrote hey red butt i didnt ask for smartass replies. fyi i have thoroughly read the owners manual. i know how to check the fluid levels and i have. i asked a simple question and you give an ignorant reply. at least budd tried to be helpful. my guess is that neither of you have any experience with this transmission so obviously my original post didnt pertain to you. hd p.s. the owners manual was handed to me in the nifty vinyl holder that holds all the other maintenance and warranty info not in plastic wrap like the twinkies and ho hos you have for lunch every day. dollars to doughnuts the owners manual is still wrapped in plastic in the glove box have you checked the lubricant level budd a dyslexic man walks into a bra. .

on thu 2 oct 2003 145437 -0400 tbone fatchance@noway.now wrote yep when a growing number of people begin to behave in an irresponsible manor and endanger others the laws need to be adjusted to allow the police to deal with it. no the laws already in place need to be enforced. lol. they need to properly fit the crime and they dont. you are suggesting that a law needs to tell people not to use cell phones while driving when the reality is there are laws already in place against reckless driving. lol yea right. now you want to associate cell phone use with reckless driving. how would you do that what would be next talking to your passenger perhaps changing the radio station or looking at a gps whoa now cell phone use is reckless driving maxie youd have to prove that one. but in this case you cant because it isnt. unless you are also saying that cell phone use while driving isnt negligent in those cases where an accident occurred. neglect and reckless are two very different things. people also get into accidents when there is no cell phone involved. how do you know that the cell phone had anything to do with it or more importantly how do you prove it in court yep. another maxie trick. change horses in midstream. start out in reckless then call it negligence. cell phone usage in a case where it diverted the drivers attention and an accident took place certainly would justify a citation for negligent driving an infraction but would never support a charge of reckless driving a crime. once again tbone is absolutely correct. maxie is talking out his ass again. but maxie will just say that he is baiting you for a response. that is generally his excuse for his extreme ignorance and stupidity. i know and now he has his buddy roy helping him. i guess that i should take it as a compliment that his friends feel the need to help him. the sad part is that this time it is just a conversation . tom care to point out where i posted anything having to do with this thread/conversation in support of maxs position or opinion roy gee how about your post that only said - again! i dont friggin believe it. man you are good!!bfg what i posted did not have a thing to do maxs position or opinions nor did it support them. what is the point of this incorrect statement but support for you buddy max. if you actually had a valid input into the thread i wouldnt have said anything. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

redneck tookover hell wrote the pump cools by being submerged in the fuel. would you rather burn up the pump or have the warning light come on early i personally would rather have a pump outside the fuel tank along with its filter so that it could be more easily and cheaply replaced! and more easily damaged by road derbis. just spent $550 replacing the pump on my 98 1500 after 92k miles. i suppose 90000 miles is starting to get into a reasonable time for replacement but it would have felt even more reasonable to me if so much *wasnt* involved in its replacement. my truck is approaching that now i wonder if i should replace mine before i get stuck do most fuel pumps at least on pickups now live right in the fuel tank what are the advantages for having one live there higher pressure performance while keeping cool doesnt seem to be longevity. it allows a smaller high pressure pump and less plumbing which equates to less installation time and hardware. longevity is also very much an issue. lets not forget the pressure that these pumps are producing and the heat and effort generated to do it. you cant expect them to live as long as a low pressure pump and 90000+ is fairly impressive. the pump and filter are also protected from the outside environment. without knowing more i guess id still vote for the pump being somewhere more easily accessible if the d-c engineers would ever listen to me. now why would they do that. as far as they are concerned this is a win - win situation for them. the system is simpler lower cost higher profit system that will send more vehicles to the dealer for repairs. and on top of that it is a little safer as well. sad to say but with todays high tech computer designed vehicles little thought is given to userserviceability. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .
