Q: -- budd pres. bush john kerry has changed his position on the iraq war so many times he could debate himself. b.c. and lose. rotflmbo!!! typical nimby. as kerry said in the last debate ... labels mean nothing and serve no purpose. we have a difference of opinion why cant you leave it at that based on hundreds of your posts i have read over the past couple of years i could label you as well. im sure you could and others have but id prefer to remain mature in a discussion. nimby is a term to describe your attitude more than yourself. do you think the energy shortage is something new no. good. do you think there have been no experiments in alternative fuels i know there have been experiments. many many many of them. i have done a few in fact. as have i in fuel economy experimentation. my best is 41.25 mpg out of a 225 slant six in a 64 valiant about 2500 lbs curb weight. we had a young man in the group bryan foust that made his own biodiesel fuel for a while with some success. we havent heard from him for a while so im not sure how its going. i have heard of such people myself. in fact if you search on google you can buy kits that help you create your own biodiesel. bryan probably scrounged all he needed. bg hybrids or electric vehicles are short range only vehicles but where does the butyl rubber or vinyls for the battery cases come from how muchoil or oil by-products are usd to make them fuel cells you know budd im not going off on an anti-oil tyrade here. oil is a good thing ... being as dependent on it as we are is a bad thing. i *think* we agree on that yes we will probably not eliminate oil products in my lifetime or if i had children thank goodness i dont ... i have ex-wives instead their lifetimes as well. myself i dont from my spiritual viewpoints see this old world lasting long enough to run out of fossil fuels but i do see a future where all the areas that no one wants drilled are forested with derricks. we can reduce our dependence on oil ... and guess what ... everyone benefits! new jobs cleaner air limited or no problems in the middle east ... and there will always be those that refuse to give up their 14 mpg pickup trucks 16 mpg suvs and so on. back in the 70s we had this huge panic over mileage in cars and trucks and decent sized cars the 68 midsized mopars for example with engines that got halfway decent mileage my mom could pull 22 mpg out of my 68 road runner went the way of the do-do bird when the overseas oil supply was threatened. and no one wants to drill in their back yard even to this day. what i am trying to debate with you is what in the hell are we waiting on i understand there are limitations from a physics perspective ... but the ability to overcome those limitations comes from research. what does it take to do research on this government and private sector focus. that takes money ... more money than baby bush has thrown at it and probably more than kerry will throw at it as well. but with kerry i believe that there will be more attention on alternative energy. its a defining part of the democratic party. not to say that republicans cant or wont ... im saying that this president baby bush lacks the desire to focus anymore than he has in the last 4 years. if your claim of it being a defining part of the democratic party were true then why didnt johnson kennedy carter or clinton do more all of them promised the moon and even had a democrat controlled congress to back them up. from my perspective they didnt come close to any of their campaign promises . . which is why i left the dam-o-craps. and to free up monies from the government which social programs do you want to cut how high do you want your taxes my taxes are high enough. i do think that many social programs can and should be cut. when it comes to social programs i lean more to the right. for example ... no more faith-based initiatives. period. no federal funding to third world countries. straight sales tax or flat tax with no exceptions etc ... you do know that originally the federal government was forbidden to levy any income tax right i am not a geologist but there is oil in other places other than one of the most beautiful places on earth ... alaska. drilling there is a mistake environmentally. missed the point didnt ya well i didnt think so ... but perhaps i did. went right over your head didnt it ; calm down ... just having a friendly convo here. why is it wrong to drill in alaska but ok in moab ut or canon city co or podunk indiana yes there is a town there by that name . . .the city limit signs are on opposite sides of a piece of plywood. its not okay. i never said it was. i would prefer not to drill here at all. now ... what point did i miss that everywhere is somebodys back yard whether here or a
