i started having trouble with the radio about 2 wks ago. when i started the truck to drive home from work the clock would flash 3 times and go off flash 3 times etc. halfway home it decided to work again. two days later the same thing happened except the radio didnt start working again. i replaced the fuse in the drivers side fuse panel and the radio worked fine it also cleaedr the engine malfunction light which had come on at about the same time. shorlty after the radio died for good. does anyone know if there is another in-line fuse under the dash for the radio or will i just have to biter the bullet and buy another radio as an aside in the 50k miles ive had my dakota i have had it into the shop at least 10 times for the engine malfunction light. it is always the evaporative system leak. that light will probably ensure that i never buy another dodge truck. .

tank every other month. how long are we talking to replace the pump... a few hours if all goes well. nothings particularly complicated - just a little time-consuming as noted previously in this thread and what else should be replaced while im at it hoses thermostat anything else without question the bypass hose little 90 hose that connects from the pump into the intake manifold. id also do upper and lower radiator hoses and heater hoses if theyre as original as the pump as well as a thermostat more of a might as well because its still fairly easy to change out by itself but as long as youre there.... as i said before some aftermarket water pumps have a threaded fitting for the heater return hose which is much more desirable than the factory tube/o-ring. either get yourself a pump like that or make sure you get a new tube assembly with the new waterpump. trying to re-use the old one is more often than not an exercise in futility. .

on tue 28 jun 2005 191207 -0500 pcb62 pcb62@cox.net wrote help! this has been going on about a month now. about 15 minutes into my 30 minute drive to and from work my truck will shudder or lurch like it momentarily loses power. it feels like running over a speed bump on the highway. this may happen 2 or 3 times before getting to where im going. i dont think im losing total electrical power because there is no break in the radio or ac. this also happens with the radio and ac off... also about a couple times each week when i come to a stop the truck will just die. starts right back up with no problem... there are no check engine lights. i took it to the shop and they ran a diagnostic with no results and told me to take it to dodge. dodge did a diagnostic with no results. so they started playing the guessing game which has cost me $313.00 so far. here is what they did 1 change spark plugs 2 change pvc valve 3 bg major fuel induction system service with injector kit and throttle body gasket nothing has changed!!! question can an electrical fuel pump gradually go on the fritz dumb question i know and/or after driving for a while can the motion of the truck shake up any crap in the fuel filter and clog it up enough to cause the above problems dodge wants $700.00 to drop the tank and replace the fuel pump and filter. cant afford this to be another guess... any guidance would be appreciated. thanks pcb im sorry this isnt an answer im here looking for answers too and yours was the only post with the same problem. our 99 durango has been doing exactly the same thing. it dies about once a week now. i got an answer from this group about six months ago and it did work for a while. we went for months with no stalls and then it started again. that first solution doesnt seem to be working anymore. heres what we did back then just in case you want to try it. we took the air cleaner off and cleaned out those butterfly things with carburetor cleaner and a soft cloth. the gunk builds up in there and its kind of a fine powder when it comes off. anyway i dont know if that was what made it work or if it was just a coincidence but for a while it was fixed. it started dying at stops about a month ago. right now were where you are. weve been told that its probably the fuel pump but we were also told its probably the coil bought a new one- it wasnt that. and its probably electrical. we were told by dodge that a fuel pump would be $800 and by a friend that it would be $300. auto zone has one for $180 and one for $240. with all the differences in price we dont know what to do. my instincts tell me to go with the friend for 300 but hes never changed one before. the dodge guys would have a warranty but i dont trust them.* its just more guessing games. diagnostics came up clean a week ago and the mechanic said he would have to drive it around for a few days until it quits and then he could tell us whats wrong. i dont know if he was serious or not. this durango is a 99 and only has 30000 miles on it. it still looks like new and i love driving it but i cant trust it. even after the fuel pump is changed we wont know for sure if that was it until it dies again. right now were looking at toyotas. *the last time we took it to the dodge dealership because the check engine light wouldnt go off we noticed when we got home that someone had left a little bent paper-clip laying on top of the battery. it was bent into a perfect u and the two points were an inch apart. anybody know what that might have been used for is there anything in the engine thats the right size to be damaged by sticking that wire into it it could be something they use as a tool but it looks very suspicious. we never said anything to them about it but now that were having trouble we do wonder. .

dodgeram63 dodgeram63.1rg8qj@no-mx.forums.yourdomain.com.au wrote in the problem started with the four wheel drive not disengaging. as i was driving down the road it was making a very loud grinding noise. this noise would stop when i put it back into four wheel drive but then would resume when i put the shifter into two wheel drive or would go around a sharp turn. i jacked truck up so all four wheels were off the ground when in four wheel drive all wheels will turn and no noise but when i put shifter back in two wheel drive the front wheels would stop turning but the front drive shaft would continue to turn and the grinding noise would start again. the noise appears to be coming from the transfer case but the front differential is leaking fluid out by the wheels. both hubs have been replaced within the last month. five speed transmission shifts fine. any help would be greatly appreciated -- dodgeram63 is this a 63 dodge truck al .
