Q: roy for all the wrong reasons you are correct. there will be no appreciable gain to offset the cost. in point of fact most oem air cleaners are much better than the aftermarket in cleaning the air being injested. this is especially true with the cummins in the dodge ram. steve wasnt there a test a few years ago with the cummins and a bunch of filters iirc the stock filter produced more power than any of them. ive been looking and cant seem to find it. roy wrote but the heat will continue to penetrate the tube heating the air. probably end upat about the same temp as the stock system or darn close to it.. it would have to penetrate at a rate fast enough to heat the air in the time it takes for that air to pass through it. plastic does not conduct heat very well. it takes time. one hour or 5 hours wont make a difference. i dont think you grasp thermal dynamics in heat transfer. what matters is the rate of heat transfer through the tube wall along with the amount of time the air spends in contact with the tube. what i do grasp is that it will make not enough of a difference on a stock truck to justify the cost of it. .
