mark elliott wrote we must also point out that pulling that trailer in overdrive on the highway will reduce your engine braking ability. you are not hurting the truck just be carefull and remember that if you want to slow down you may have to brake. this is why manufacturers dont recomend od when hauling it is a safety issue mark on fri 23 jan 2004 035304 gmt chris cchrista@rochester.rr.com wrote if i am pulling it in overdrive on the thruway or wherever going 65mph it feels like i have to almost floor it to get enough to keep a consistent speed sometimes. especially if there are some hills not steep. sometimes i have to punch it to get back to the speed i was kind of if i had cruise control on this is an enclosed trailer around 2000 pounds with sleds.i noticed if i turn the overdrive off it seems much smoother and no problems of course the engine is revving higher. i understand there is a lot of drag with enclosed trailers. but this isnt a lot of weight. when exactly are you supposed to turn the overdrive off i know in the city i should turn it off. can i turn it off at speeds that high will it make gas mileage a lot worse
