Long distance truck buying?

Q: 2002 4.7 4wd with 10000 miles. after 1 1/2 years im finally getting a chance to use 4wd because of the snow in the ne. i noticed that the drive train really binds when making even the slightest turns. parallel parking is a bitch! is this normal its going in for an oil change and tire rotation next week. should i make an issue of this thanks mike nice to see you have the snow instead of me. now back to your binding. what is on the ground under your tires as you are making the slightest turns how about when parallel parking if it is only wet asphalt or worse yet dry asphalt then your 4wd will become very expensive soon. only use the 4wd when the ground is slippery. the tires have to have something to slip on to get rid of the bind or the wheel hardware will find something to wear out and bust. you may be able to find a much better explaination in that book that came with the durango. reading that book may save you from having to bring out the big check book. fmb only one b in fmb ill check the owners manual as you suggest but why sell a 4wd only to be able to safely use it at every stop sign - in so. philly theres a stop sign at practically every corner and thats where its always iced up. .

unless this is a full time 4wd what you are experiencing is normal. when you make a turn the front and rear axles turn at different speeds. the harder you turn the wheel the greater the difference. the part time transfer case has no way to deal with this except to force one of the wheels slip. in mud and snow this is not a problem but on dry pavement it puts a significant strain on the drive train. i would suggest not parallel parking in 4wd and not using it unless the roads are truly snow covered. if this is a full time 4wd then you have a problem and i would suggest letting the dealer know about it when you take it in. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving 2002 4.7 4wd with 10000 miles. after 1 1/2 years im finally getting a chance to use 4wd because of the snow in the ne. i noticed that the drive train really binds when making even the slightest turns. parallel parking is a bitch! is this normal its going in for an oil change and tire rotation next week. should i make an issue of this thanks mike .

robert ive bought a bunch of cars interstate mostly corvettes but never sight unseen. also never would think about a deal without being very sure that the seller has their shit together. sounds to me that it is being driven by emotion and not common sense. there has to be a truck that would satisfy your needs closer and within your financial means. you aked for advice and whatever. here it is run dont walk away from this deal. it is too fucked up. if it was in your hometown it would be a pia. roy okay i have a new issue. im in fort worth texas and im buying a used truck in portland oregon. they dont have clear title i dont think the truck is paid off. ive never bought a used vehicle like this before. theyll give me a bill of sale whatever makes me happy the problem is i dont know what i need if i cant leave with a title so i could use a little guidance experience advice caveats. well with the exception of buy a truck closer to home ;- thanks! robert .

i usually agree with red except in his politics. but he missed this one. transmission cooler first then through the cooler in the radiator. gm has an excellent brochure that describes how to do it the best way and why. they suggest an h looking thermostat that plumbs into the lines. in cold weather it bypasses the cooler as the transmission temp comes up it opens. in the gm brochure it explains what happens when the transmission temperature is too cold. the thermostat was available from jc whitney. i assume places that sell towing accessories would have them. one thing to explain the plumbing the brochure says the transmission can overheat and overheat the engine how about that if you are going to try to find the gm brochure look in the library for books on maintaining motor homes. they usually have a re-print of it. it graphs transmission life through the complete temperature range. personally i tow with a manual transmission. i guess there is a lot of different opinions on that subject too. al politics is the gentle art of lying with a straight face i do not agree with you. i have a very large cooler installed on my 3/4 ton dodge that done aftermarket back in 1977. the routing is from cooler through the cooler in radiator then to transmission. this truck has uncountable miles all with this setup using the aforementioned setup towing a 25 trailer or hauling the in bed camper pulling the 17 boat. when i have added a cooler i install the largest one i can fit. then i route the fluid through the auxillary cooler for the cooling effect and then through the radiator tank for the stabilizing effect. that is absolutely one of the dumbest things i have ever heard of why would you even bother to put a cooler in to cool the fluid then route it back through the radiator to heat it back up to put back into the transmission. youre accomplishing absolutely nothing if you want to cool transmission fluid you bypass the radiator completely and use the biggest cooler you can physically fit in the vehicle or 2 smaller ones that equal one big one politics the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich. .

im trying to track down a whistling noise coming from under the hood between 1500-2000 rpm and only when the truck is under a load and only when the ambient temperature is below freezing. its been going on for about two years but i forgot about it over the summer. ive removed most of the vacuum lines one by one only exception is the pcv line and the brake booster line and plugged them and test drove the truck. by doing this i know its not the gasoline evaporator cannister and purge solenoid nor the vacuum lines running the heater controls etc. i may have a leak in the intake manifold etc. but i havent looked at that yet. listening to the engine in the garage i have a tick coming from what i think is my tensioner pulley so im also considering that it could be a bearing but it doesnt act like a bearing. my experience is that a bearing will continue to grind at all speeds and load. but i took the serpentine belt off and checked the idler pulley it turned freely and had no slop but the tensioner pulley had a bit of forward and back play though it does seem to turn freely. i didnt measure it but definitely had a bit of slop. does anyone know what is allowable for play on this pulley is there should be no play in any of the bearings. this may not be your whistle noise but it should be replaced anyway. denny .

wouldnt have gone in. now that ive bought non-refundable tickets and arranged for time off ill stick it out. thanks to everyone i appreciate every response ive received. robert good luck!! although i think i would eat the price of the tickets on this one. there is too much bs on this deal. curious whos plates and whos insurance are you transporting it under. be real careful on that issue. if you dont own it i doubt you can insure it. ya gotta get the title assigned to you before ya turn a wheel imho. roy . 222 276855 20040130094316.13091.00000649@mb-m20.aol.com well it is time to step up.. the dodge is gone.. picking up the 04 ford f150.. thanks for all the advise from this rss on the many woes with my dodge.. your gonna be a busy guy in the ford trucks group! 79 t/a ws6 455 hurst 4 spd blk w/ t-tops heavily fortified 4mpg 00 ram 2500hd qc v-10 4x4blk5 spd410 lsd 10mpg 98 intruder 1400 blk 5 spd 25mpg .

if that happened then how does it run at all. you do realize that the filter is always at the bottom of the tank. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving sounds like your fuel filter. when you ran it dry you picked up the trash in the bottom of the tank and filled the filter. are you sure that it ran dry or did the problem just happen to start when you almost out of fuel good point! -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving these are all great ideas--ill give them a try. nobody thinks it has anything to do with running out of gas problem didnt start until i ran it dry. thanks everyone! corodbaman hi group-- hello! been away for while need some advice... my 82 w150 318 2 bbl 105k miles ran out of gas a while back. filled er with gas changed the fuel filter and went on my way. truck died after running 15 minutes. replaced the fuel pump check the line between the carb and the pump--was clean. truck will fire right up cold but dies still after 15 minutes. let it sit a while starts up dies after 15 minutes. any ideas where to start looking for the problem maybe someone pulled a prank and wired a timer in-line some where! thanks! cordobaman .

hi roy as a matter of fact i do have one. i didnt add it it came with the truck. ill take it off and see if it goes away. thanks for the tip. --mike i have a 2003 4x4 quad-cab 2500 and have an annoying whistle that i hear only with the drivers side window down. it starts at about 25mph and continues at any speed above that. at first i thought it was the mirror and i tucked it in on the freeway once and it was still there. does anyone else have the problem and perhaps a remedy other than keeping the window up or driving slower than 25mph g. thanks --mike you dont by chance have one of those deflectors on the front of your hood do you some will cause a whistle some wont. roy sharp edges on the deflector could easily cause a whistling effect. bryan .

also both are ...the american people are now conditioned to front-wheel drive and its superior handling in snow and ice... mike fwd gained popularity with automobile manufacturers due to ease of cheaper design and manufacturing; madison avenue sold it to america. it isnt better -- its just a *different* can of worms. just my observation and experience. bryan .

im going to acquire a laptop shut up roy in the near future to keep at my box to read the service cds. i was looking at some of the factory reconditioned ones at www.overstock.com. am i doing something really stupid by getting one from there the prices seem good and most have a two year warranty. pro/cons anybody. dont know if dell still sells them but ya could check. dell and a bunch of others sell them. it just seems like the reconditioned ones are a good deal but im just a little leery of how good the reconditioning is. if i was buying it local id go ahead and do it but i really hate spending that kind of $$ to somebody that i have no idea who or where it is. i think problems get handled better if youre looking somebody in the eye. denny .

there must be some worth to this type of product. fram filters a major paper filter manufacturer will be releasing their new air hog gauze type oil charge filter later this month. this should add more fuel to the fire... happy motoring! rick blaine wrote i find it remarkable that such a frivolous product can see such wide spread use and continue to sell year after year when its so obviously a ruse. then a lot of people are being duped. rick i think you just hit the nail on the head... a bunch of people have bought these cause they look cool or cause their buddy has one or cause they saw it on hot rod tv. if the filter really did what it was claimed to kn would have no trouble running a few dyno tests to show it off. just because it sounds faster doesnt mean it really is faster. denny .
