Long cranking Dakota 318

Q: i have a 97 dakota with the 318 engine. the last few days it has started taking several seconds of cranking before itll start when its cold. it used to fire right up every time hot or cold. any ideas on what the problem may be .

i have a 97 dakota with the 318 engine. the last few days it has started taking several seconds of cranking before itll start when its cold. it used to fire right up every time hot or cold. any ideas on what the problem may be my 95 ram did that a few years ago. it turned out to be a defective fuel pump- was letting the gasoline bleed back when it sat. a new fuel pump did the trick. paul johnson .
