on jul 28 707 pm tom lawrence tnloaswpraemnmcie...@earthlink.net wrote i have not checked the trigger wire for voltage at the starter end but i do feel the starter relay click as well as the solenoid when i hit the key so im assuming its getting battery voltage. okay - then most likely youve got a bad cable from the battery to the starter. you already addressed the negative battery cable so im assuming the engine is sufficiently grounded. when the solenoid engages it closes a pair of heavy contacts that supplies battery voltage to the starter motor. the only reasons the starter motor wouldnt be spinning are bad ground or bad +12v feed. its too bad the manual tranny bailed on my 85 dodge van... that thing was so much nicer to deal with slant six with 75 carb and ignition.. one of these days im going to pull that one apart fix it and ditch this new piece of crap! theres nothing wrong with this new piece of crap that wouldnt also go wrong on your 85. this has nothing to do with electronics. this is a basic electrical problem that can happen on any vehicle that doesnt use a hand crank to start the engine. lol true enough.. still the new one is made with thinner gauge metal and loads more plastic.. and the dashboard is right in your face complete with two safety exploders in the dash as well. i didnt have any notable amount of voltage drop between the starter and the positive terminal of the battery... and the resistance of the positive cable was 4 ohms. right now i wish it *was* hand crankable.. .

tbone wrote if it were only the diesels i would agree with you but when you look at the complete list of ineligible vehicles it says something very different. which vehicles are you specifically referring to that are not included in the warranty program and have lower sales and/or higher repair incidents the warranty excludes the srt diesel vehicles sprinter and ram chassis cabs and some fleet/utility vehicles. the diesel trucks sell very well and have no need for increased incentives. same with the sprinter vans. they are selling like crazy. the srts are limited availability and rarely have had much in the way of incentives large rebates etc. .

joe i have built and driven many high performance vehicles in my life and the one thing i can say is that it is never simple nor inexpensive. today it is even more complex than 30 years ago. i can also state that the most effective mod is always cubic inches. high tech is expensive and the return is less effective than more inches. it is also safe to say that any money invested in performance must be considered lost financially. you will never realize the investment in increased sales price when changing vehicles. so my advice is to find a wrecked late model with a 5.9 buy it complete with gearbox wiring harness and computer and swap out the 3.9. it will be worthwhile both in performance and economy as well as affordable fun. steve i have a 97 dodge dakota i installed dual exhaust and was wanting to know if anyone knew of some simple power mods that can be done to give my weak 3.9 a little more power i saw a spacer that goes between the air intake and the intake manifold in summit catalog that claims a power increase has anyone in here ever installed one of those and recieved the claimed power increase would a hotter ignition coil help maybe thanks ! .
