Q: iirc you dont have to remove the steering wheel to replace the dimmer switch. it is a minor pita though since it requires a tamper-proof torx bit #20 i believe which most folks dont have. youre right - the wheel can stay on. i was thinking of some other vehicles that ive helped change the switch on and they all had to have the wheel pulled. in this particular case you just need to remove the knee bolster panel and the steering column covers to get to the switch. my local ace hardware sells a set of security torx bits for $5 or so. hey - wait a minute... i was wrong about something and you corrected me. arent i supposed to attack you now grin yeah..... you are...... bring it on!!!!! ;^ mike .

lo sorry but im still sensitive to sparkplug shocks after over 40 years. i used to test small engine coils with a c cell battery and let the spark lead rest on my arm. when you break the primary circuit a small but definite shock results but it shows the coil could still work at lower than normal voltages. i didnt mean to make it sound like the expirienced mechanic is immune to the shock but theyre more likely to use a pair of insulated pliers to pull the wire instead of grabbing it with their hand and changing their name to circut... .

we are thinking of getting a new dakota quad with the 4.7 v8 5 speed auto tranny and 3.91 rear end. mostly for solo driving but also to tow our 23 trailer that weighs in around 3500 lbs wet and has a gvwr of 5000lbs. some times we take long trips like from bc canada to louisianna or southern california. anyone have experience or opinions on this truck. thanks brian .

youre welcome. budd thanks for all the replies... it ended up being another universal aftermarket oxygen sensor that apparently wasnt friendly to the chrysler computer system... time will tell if that was the source of the gas-in-the-crankcase issue. thanks for all the responses! js jacob suter wrote friend of mine is broke and ive offered yeah yeah im a sucker to help him fix his transportation - a 97 jeep wrangler 2.2l/5 speed. it has about 80k miles and recently had been down for a few months due to a spontanious transmission failure... essentially heres the conditions #1 - runs like shit an gets horrible fuel economy #2 - visable black no white or grey smoke from tailpipe at lower rpms/idle #3 - idles badly likes to die #4 - getting gas in oil.. personally this sounds exactly like when the fuel pressure regulator started leaking on my old exploder but weve come to realize its built like my 99 dodge and has no engine mounted vacuum adjusting fpr... my only ideas are either bad injectors computer gone haywire or sensor feeding it some bs or a bad in-tank fuel pressure regulator pushing the fuel rail pressure up. it is throwi

the tech told me that the two weakest points on the truck were the rear end & transmission. the transmission went out at 42k they forgot about the cupholder. mine also broke off where the plastic hinge meets the tray. min poodle jumped on it i pulled the piece off and took it to the dealer and asked for a replacement. that is when i was told it would be $87.00 for the whole unit. the fix is posted at http//p081.ezboard.com/bfritzsrampagetechboard look under the interior group. pics are posted. .

that is the common method in nj but would probably get shot here in nc. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving yea your probably right. do you know of anyway or place to check that. even after all these years i just cant get used to those damn buttons for the horn and now the left on is sticking. if thats the case look for at least a 99 wheel assuming theyd fit. the 98s were notorious for having hard-to-actuate horn buttons. in fact on a buddys 98 ram unless you depressed exactly over the horn icon on the vinyl cover the horn wouldnt sound. on my 99 they improved the mechanism and you can press just about anywhere on the airbag cover and the horn will sound. as far as actually checking it short of picking one up from a junkyard and dont plan on it including an airbag and trying it i dont know of any other way... sorry you could always cruise around the mall parking lot till you found............................. vbg denny .

yea your probably right. do you know of anyway or place to check that. even after all these years i just cant get used to those damn buttons for the horn and now the left on is sticking. if thats the case look for at least a 99 wheel assuming theyd fit. the 98s were notorious for having hard-to-actuate horn buttons. in fact on a buddys 98 ram unless you depressed exactly over the horn icon on the vinyl cover the horn wouldnt sound. on my 99 they improved the mechanism and you can press just about anywhere on the airbag cover and the horn will sound. as far as actually checking it short of picking one up from a junkyard and dont plan on it including an airbag and trying it i dont know of any other way... sorry you could always cruise around the mall parking lot till you found............................. vbg denny .

i have mixed feelings about the airbag. ive not yet been in an incident that would have deployed one and if i remove it ill probably hit something! the other issue is safetying it during removal and reinstall. will continue to research the options. kend .

if youve got two vehicles take your wheel puller or buy one for $10 and pull that sucker. then go visit your local wrecking yard. is airbag just a word to you politics the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich. .

no tom the problem is you know nothing about big business or unions. budd the problem with this budd is that it is no different in big business but you for some reason fail to see it. greed is greed whether it is a politician or a corp exec. the only real difference is in the visibility. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving agreed but many of these prices are somewhat controlled damn that big government. sorry tom if youre going to condemn then condemn those that want multi-million dollars paychecks for just playing a game or playing a character and the unions that support their greed. budd .

yea but how long does it take for the people coming the other way to be able to anything again - -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving customization there is really little that you can do about it. perhaps the aftermarket has a solution but im unaware of anything. i solved the lighting problem on my 99 with a pair of dick cepek c-1000 super offroaders at 210w and 750000 candlepower each. slightly above dot specs but heck - i could see for miles .
