Leak
From : john difilippo jrjoe
Q: thanks for all the input. tried your suggestions noise is inthe rear. good is..... when we bought it they refurbed the rear and there is a 12000/12 month warranty on it. i only put 7000 miles on it and have it since april of 2002. thanks a million for the help. and the zip tie prank.. john hello all i have a 1999 durango 5.9 slt. it started making a humming/whining noise from the rear of the vehicle this week. it almost sounds like i have oversided tires on it. could this be the rear diff giving way or a problem with the tires. does not handle any different just makes a noise. thanks in advance john .

check the fresh air intake. the well below the windshield should have a drain and the heater core box should have a drain. if either is clogged with debris then you will have water in the cabin. on 9 nov 2003 130441 gmt joe avoidingspam@hotmail.com wrote so as i was cleaning out the interior yesterday i noticed a musty smell. started snooping around and found that the passenger side carpet was real squishy. pulled it and found a couple inches of water sitting in the footwell. i dried everything out pretty much then drove around last night in the rain its been raining all week. alas more water. where the hell could it be coming from only happens when the trucks moving. coming in from the firewall somewhere any suggestions on where to look for the leak thanks.. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies .

i had the same problem with my 02 dakota read on. the source of the water was 2 fold. the biggest problem was the drain for the heater/ac box. it seems that on the 02s and up they felt it wasnt necessary to put a drain hose on the outlet of the box. the drain sticks out through the fire wall and is sealed with a foam gasket so as the moisture runs out the drain it comes back against the firewall and runs back in through the foam gasket hence filling the passenger compartment with water. the second problem was the floor pan leaked as the water from the drain runs down the firewall it also leaked back into the passenger compartment. i took mine in to the non 5 star dealer and they replaced most of the interior as well as added the rubber drain hose from the 2001. i hope this helps. kevin. so as i was cleaning out the interior yesterday i noticed a musty smell. started snooping around and found that the passenger side carpet was real squishy. pulled it and found a couple inches of water sitting in the footwell. i dried everything out pretty much then drove around last night in the rain its been raining all week. alas more water. where the hell could it be coming from only happens when the trucks moving. coming in from the firewall somewhere any suggestions on where to look for the leak thanks.. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies check the third brake light. it will leak down and gather up front. roy .

speaking of breaker bars the guy doing the clutch on shirley muldownys dragster at pomona had about a 4 foot breader bar trying to get the galled studs loose after getting about 1800 degrees of heat in the clutch on a pass finally took a cutoff wheel to it saying theyll just use a new flywheel for the next pass those rear seat bolts were a bitch to remove btw. had to use a breaker bar with the ratchet. ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

nope all the discs are carbon fiber only problem was getting it apart with the galled threads. he took the clutch parts over to the resurfacer and redid them for next round after the race they took out the galled studs replace them and reuse the flywheel. just dont have time to mess with fixing it during eliminations. with the 75 minute turnaround time. most teams tear down the engine rebuild it or replace it and service the clutch pack in about 45 minutes. bet that stuff was one molten mass of metal... joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

kevin i looked at this over the weekend and couldnt find the heater/ac box drain. theres nothing that sticks out of the firewall except for the a/c hoses and theyre surrounded by this foam gasket stuff this is in the engine compartment. on the drivers side i can see the heater hoses with the same setup but nothing is really sticking out of the firewall. sorry but can you be more specific thx.. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies kevin ecmss@cyberbeach.com wrote in i had the same problem with my 02 dakota read on. the source of the water was 2 fold. the biggest problem was the drain for the heater/ac box. it seems that on the 02s and up they felt it wasnt necessary to put a drain hose on the outlet of the box. the drain sticks out through the fire wall and is sealed with a foam gasket so as the moisture runs out the drain it comes back against the firewall and runs back in through the foam gasket hence filling the passenger compartment with water. the second problem was the floor pan leaked as the water from the drain runs down the firewall it also leaked back into the passenger compartment. i took mine in to the non 5 star dealer and they replaced most of the interior as well as added the rubber drain hose from the 2001. i hope this helps. kevin. so as i was cleaning out the interior yesterday i noticed a musty smell. started snooping around and found that the passenger side carpet was real squishy. pulled it and found a couple inches of water sitting in the footwell. i dried everything out pretty much then drove around last night in the rain its been raining all week. alas more water. where the hell could it be coming from only happens when the trucks moving. coming in from the firewall somewhere any suggestions on where to look for the leak thanks.. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies check the third brake light. it will leak down and gather up front. roy .
