for when they tell me this is normal ill know if it is or not. yes- i did buy the extended warranty.- the milage is 32000. any info would be appericated thanks no its not normal the switch and wiring harness are burning up from too much load dodge did have a problem with this on the 3500s especially since they are used more for towing. i believe dodge came out with a wiring harness that has a relay or 2 to take the load off the switch from the trailer lights it is also possible to have a good hitch shop put a relay in the wiring but if the switch was that hot there is damge to it and the wiring already ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

theres something in my 01 dakota manual about having your dealer install a heavy duty towing light switch to prevent blowing fuses and damaging the light switch when towing with 7 wire harness... no mention of it in the 99 ram manual though... might be because the 99s still had the problem. i burned up a couple harnesses and switches on mine. the last one being early in 2000 thats when they put in this new improved version. i havent had any problems since even with the big enclosed trailer with lots of lights!!!! the wierd thing is that the 3500s had the most problem mainly because the harness and switch couldnt handle the extra cab clearance lights tailgate and fender lights let alone trailer lights. i never did have it burn up towing. ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

i have a 99 3500 5.9 td that kept blowing off the intercooler hoses when the truck is under load. after cleaning and reinstalling them they continued to blow off. took to dealer they put them back on and told me it was ok. i said your nuts and blew the hoses within two miles of the dealer. i documented everything i did up to that point they just repeated it. i wish i made 75 dollars an hour to repeat someones work! i took the truck home ordered 1 new hose from piers diesel bought new clamps used the sandpaper trick on the top hose new piers on the bottom no more blowing hoses. if i would have thought about it when it happened for the first time i lost the lower hose from turbo piping into intercooler inlet and some oil drained out. the rubber had become soft and nothing was going to hold it on! also dodge wanted $178 for the hose got it for less than $70 from piers and the quality does not compare. had a heck of a time getting it on and aligned but has not come off since. in order to help facilitate installation i used some slime that is water based meaning it will dry once we got the hose on. dont use any oil based lubricant! the slime i used was from a cold pack that my brothers insulin is shipped in from the drug company. one 3500 one intrepid one caravan one toyota highlander. i will never buy a dodge again. if it werent for the cummins the 3500 would be gone also. anyone want to buy an intrepid with a 42le problem! dodge sucks.... their service sucks... 5 star my ass i think that is what they see when the hood of the intrepid hits them in the head because the hood shocks dont work! i hate to say it but we have had 3 camrys and now the highlander. none ever went back for service ever! i do brakes timing belts etc. pm is expected new trannys balljoints at 50k tackbar at the same time on a full ton truck new evaporator at 60k i think not. you learn by your mistakes please learn from mine. tdr tries to sell these pieces of crap off as expected problems i say bull buy something that is engineered well buy foreign. .. .

if you dont have a trailer towing pkgyou need a aux light relay to carry the trailer light current. i had a light sw burn up on a 93. i added a rellay and replaced the trucks sw and fixed the problem. hapcamp on mon 1 dec 2003 085729 -0600 thomas allemani tallemani@comcast.net wrote the truck is a 1999 2500 q cab 4x4 v-10 the mileage sucks but i have no trouble w moutians pulling a 27 ft tt w slide out. anyway on the way home from the coast to mn we were wanting to get home so we started to travel at night. after a couple hours w the lights ou i could smell something like plastic that was very hot i know what that smells like cause i used to work in a moulding shop at one time as i was saying i started to feel around the dashboard -- the lightswitch was hot enough u couldnt keep a finger on it also the dash all around it. we pulled into a rest area and shut it down for the night. have driven daytime since and forgot about it till now. untill i saw the post about the loss of headlights on this group. has anybody else had this happen to their truck i have driven at night briefly since the switch gets warm but not hot like before. i will will go to the dealer with it but i would like to know if other trucks have had this problem also for when they tell me this is normal ill know if it is or not. yes- i did buy the extended warranty.- the milage is 32000. any info would be appericated thanks .

wtf 12 or more inches of snow looks like our rabbit had best get his furry ass in the truck time to make some moneyg as for me for the first snow storm in about 30 years im going to sit in the house and watch it come down. of course ill run out every so often and see if the atv will be able to plow through it. im a little suspect as to whether there is enough downward weight on the blade might need some mods. long about sunday afternoon ill watch the pats kick some assbg denny be careful out there. roy just got back in from touching up the route. we ended up with about 3-5 inches of slushy shit. ive never seen so much damned traffic out at 1-200 in the am before in my life. where the fuck are all these bastards going this time of the night why arent they at home banging the ole lady and staying out of my way vbg did your blizziks sp go with the truck denny .

they probably heard about a fat assed pink rabbit plowing snow and wanted to see first hand if it the rabbit really played with itself while plowing. im sure you didnt disappoint your fans.bfg you mean you didnt what the hell else is there to do when our buddy is hogging the machine. seriously people just seem to have to be able to drive in the snow. sorta a control thing. no snow storm will keep me at home ill prove it and drive around like a idiot and be a pia. why arent they at home banging the ole lady and staying out of my way vbg did your blizziks sp go with the truck yup the blizzaks went with it. you thinking about buying a set just kicking it around depends if i get $800 that i dont know what to do with. i gotta pick up a set of rims from the boneyard if i do. just looked out the window at about 5-6 of snow. it is supposed to continue until sunday. im going back to bed this is friggin wonderful no routes to plow. gbfg and the lazy fat ass just got another inch wider!! bg i bet you got concrete blocks sitting under the bed frame to keep it from bowing down. denny roy .

redneck tookover hell wrote i dont think it would really help you if someone did explain to you that the heat is caused by resistance in the wires not in the switch. the switch heating up is a symptom not the problem really! ...the lightswitch was hot enough u couldnt keep a finger on it also the dash all around it. so thomas switch gets that hot by conduction the wires must glow as bright as the headlight bulbs wow! the switch in my 01 1500 gets warm as it wastes power that could otherwise produce useful light at the headlight bulb filaments. .
