Q: if they fit the bolt pattern. you have to make sure that your overall diameter on your rim and tire combo deos not exceed 31 otherwise the front tires will rub on the bumper and fenderewells when turning. kevin yes some 17x9 and 17x8 rims will fit a dakota. not sure on what size 17 tires will fit with the rims and not rub. you might want to try http//www.tirerack.com if you buy rims and tires they will ship them mounted and balanced for you. will 17 inch rims fit on a dodge dakota .

tbone wrote tbone wrote why not a person with a bigger house than you in your area pays more taxes than you do. why shouldnt a person with more cars then they need not do so as well not in all states really which ones california for one. they passed proposition 13 about 20 or so years ago which limits yearly increase on taxes. you buy the property and the value is reassessed and your taxes start with capped increase on the original purchase value. you sell and then the new owner starts over. in other words a person with $100000 home could be paying more than a person with a $500000 home down the street. the idea was to keep the state from taxing the retired out of their homes once they went on fixed incomes. im sure there are other states with similar laws. ok but that is not what i was talking about. the tax is still based on the size and worth of the property. what you are talking about is a form of protection not the tax rate itself. but even with this protection if a person went and bought more houses he would be paying taxes on them as well at the current value. -- yes the more houses you purchase the more taxes you will pay. all based on purchase price of the property still talking ca here. you are not taxed extra just because you purchased your 3rd or 4th property in a crowded city. -- fmb only one b in fmb .

first off i have very little knowledge of fuel systems so any and all help would be appreciated. i have a 01 ram with the 24 valve cummins and 82k miles on the truck. i just recently changed my fuel filter as part of a regular service. i filled the filter bowl about half way with atf like usualy i hear this helps keep injectors clean and started the truck. died after a second or two like normal and when i tried the restart and listened for the pump filling the bowl i heard a crunchy sound along with a gurgling sound not the normal hum. is the pump on its way out i saw a thread here about lift pumps going bad often. could this also be part of my lack-of-power problem sometimes when stepping on the pedal nothing happens for up to 30 seconds then itll spring to life. but thats a whole nuther story... andy just one more additional thing to be aware of. the lift pump is supposed move fuel to the ip if it doesnt the ip will go south on you. they cost around 1k a lift pump is around $140.00. a lift pump can last for more than 30k or have been known to fail right out of the box. id strongly suggest a fuel pressure gauge to keep a check on things. roy .

on wed 25 feb 2004 150729 gmt tbone t-bonenospam@nc.rr.com wrote yea but if you were to add an addition onto your existing house the city can then re-asses it and raise the taxes on it even in the protected state of california. but the point is still the same you own more houses you pay more taxes. if you want to own an excessive number of cars in a crowded city where space is at a premium and people cant find enough space to park in front of their own homes then you should pay for the privilege. why should i have to parka block or more form my own home because some inconsiderate jackass has 5 junk cars parked out in the street and taking up all of the spaces and why should my tax dollars have to pay to deal with it. it should be up to the owners of multiple cars to pay to make sure that the privilege is not abused not the rest of the people. i find it comical that the people that want the most freedom and self responsibility are the first ones to whine and complain when asked to pay some of the cost of it. well ive been trying to avoid this thread but i had to make a small point you cant compare above owning multiple homes with owning multiple cars in the example above as the property tax you pay on the homes is just that a tax... which you already pay on the cars right until you add the new tax penalty for owning more cars the example is fine but when the additional tax is added to cars its a new ball game.. hope i made a point instead of muddying things up im only on my 1st cup of coffee.. yes it is a new ball game. the point of the tax if it ever comes to be is to make people think beefore collecting a fleet of junk cars. i have heard many times and even used the excuse well it doesnt eat myself when it came to an old car that i had just sitting around. well it may not eat but now its gonna cost and sometimes that is all that it would take to motivate people to sell or junk them if they serve no real purpose. -- t it costs to have each and every car here in ca. all have to be registered. if you decide that you are not going to operate the vehicle you still have to register it as non-op. that is only $10 or so but you cannot keep it on the streets. so all the vehicles you have on the streets are fully paid for and have the right to park out there. certainly if you live in a crowded neighborhood and own 15 registered vehicles and you take up all the street parking then yeah the owner is an ass. within his rights but an ass all the same. im sure some sort of neighborly pressure might give him some hint to go store them elsewhere. ths penalty tax that berkeley is trying to impose is just that a penalty for for owning more vehicles than you can drive at once. what is next a penalty tax for owning more guns than you can shoot at one time oops nevermind they dont want you to have any guns. ok what about sidewalk lights do you own more than is necessary to light up the walkway at night that must be wasting the electricity that should be available to your neighbors and now you are going to have to pay a penalty tax. i am not in favor of penalty taxes or the government limiting what i should be able to freely purchase and use. -- fmb only one b in fmb .

today i installed the powertrax no-slip in my 2002 dodge ram 1500 2wd. its a regular open differential. the installation while sometimes challenging for a first-timer went perfectly. everything was exactly by the book. no problemo!!! but... then came time for the final test. it failed. please can anybody help heres what happened to check to see if its working right you put the vehicle in gear e.g. park. the wheels wont turn in the same direction at the same time. thats correct. if somebody rolls the driver-side wheel until it stops a couple of inches and holds it against the stop the passenger-side wheel should roll freely in the opposite direction. it should do this in both directions. then just the opposite. when somebody holds the passenger-side wheel against the stop the drivers side wheel should turn freely in the opposite direction. it doesnt. when somebody holds the passenger-side wheel against the stop and you attempt to rotate the driver-side wheel the driver-side wheel hits the stop and the passenger side wheel suddenly starts slipping! any ideas im utterly exasperated. ron m. .

ok got a question i havent had any problems yet out of my 01 1500 4x2 but it was mentioned that you can get the codes out of the odometer. is that true and how do you do it on fords you could hook up an analog meter and the hand would render the codes. info would be appreciated greatly. jack from my experience the manual that comes with the product from hf is a lot better than the scanned manual. the reason why the code is given is because the code just points you in the right direction. o2 sensor voltage could be anything from corroded wires to a faulty ground somewhere. using a number is easier to point out the exact area to look. i almost got one but the wife said shed get it for me for xmas and then couldnt remember which one i wanted. one of the neighbors got one and ive borrowed it a couple of times. it works very well and the manual is much better in person than the one on the net. you cant judge the quality of a product based the sample manual provided on the net by a reseller. michael greenwood wrote im curious does that reader do anything more than the odometer display on my 03 when i do the key on-off-on-off-on thingy it spits out a code then you just look it up. now...for 40 bucks if the display said o2 sensor voltage instead of a code wed be cookin here. i also looked at the pdf manual available for download. it looked as if it were scanned by my 4 year-old. simply based on that i wouldnt waste the 40 bucks. the product quality is prolly the same. --mike hi has anyone bought the obd ii reader from harbor freight that they sell for $39.99 they call it call a universal code reader catalog no.46030-1hch. is it any good and will it work on my 98 dakota thanks alan to reply by email replace nospam with comcast in my address .

the 2004 durango is in the spotlight right now. it is the darling of dodge. nothing can be wrong with it! it must be you. just kidding of course. id take it back to the dealer and go for a ride with the service writer and trasnmission technician so that you both can experience the problem at the same time. dont just drop off the truck. schedule a time when you all can go together. if it is normal then ask to go for a ride in a brand new model off the lot with the service writer the transmission technician and the general manager or owner of the dealership. let them prove to you that it is normal in a brand new vehicle. they surely can duplicate the feature if its normal. i have a brand new dodge durango. almost right away i noticed that when i started it up after it was sitting for a while overnight or at the office that it would not go into 2nd gear right away. after going about 1/10 - 2/10 of a mile it would then shift into the correct gear. i called the dealer and told him about the problem and he said that this was normal. i have a hard time believing this is considered normal operation. has anybody else had this problem has anybody else brought it up to a dealer i would like to know

its you tps. its a common problem. the shifting is caused by electrical interference in the signal line from the throttle position sensor to the powertrain control module. several fixes have been suggested including cleaning tps by spraying it with contact cleaner pulling the tps wiring from the main wiring harness rewiring the tps wires with shielded wiring from the powertrain control module installing an electrical noise filter pulling apart the tps itself and cleaning it. the tps itself is a very expensive part and is usauly replaced as a last resort. check out the following web site for more info. http//www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/facts/12velocations-l.gif http//www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.phps=&threadid=94812 .

vickie the delayed upshift after starting cold that you have noted is perfectly normal for your vehicle and is the way it was designed. to give you an explanation why your vehicle is equipped with a catalytic converter in the exhaust stream to reduce emissions. this catalytic converter contains a ceramic substrate coated with platinum. when the exhaust gases pass thru the hot catalytic converter a chemical reaction takes place that cleans the exhaust gases. this only works after the catalytic converter reaches its light off point of about 800 degrees f. in order to enable the catalytic converter to reach its light off point more quickly the engineers have programmed into your vehicle a delayed upshift routine which keeps the engine rpms higher to allow the catalytic converter to warm up more quickly. you will only notice this in colder weather and this routine will pretty much disappear as the weather gets warmer. this fast light off routine is mandated by the epa regulations that your vehicle is designed to meet. hope this info helps! chryco service manager member sae i have a brand new dodge durango. almost right away i noticed that when i started it up after it was sitting for a while overnight or at the office that it would not go into 2nd gear right away. after going about 1/10 - 2/10 of a mile it would then shift into the correct gear. i called the dealer and told him about the problem and he said that this was normal. i have a hard time believing this is considered normal operation. has anybody else had this problem has anybody else brought it up to a dealer i would like to know .

ive got a 2001 qc 1500 5.9l and looking at buying a 22 4500lb loaded trailer to tow. the dealership said i probably wont need a sway control add-on with this setup since its a light trailer with tandem axle. what are peoples experiences with lighter trailers is anti sway needed i will have a wd hitch. i have been told that anti sway devices limit turning abilities. i currently tow a 2500lb loaded popup trailer with no wd and no sway control but at 2500lb i cant even tell its there. your trailer will determine the need for an anti-sway device more so than your truck. sway is dependent on tongue weight and how the weight is biased in your trailer. most anti-sway devices do not reduce turning ability to a great extent. does a ram 1500 with 5.9l handle towing 4500-5000lbs well what about climbing steep grades you should have no problem. the truck will downshift to accomodate the steep grades. is the factory dodge tranny cooler sufficient or should i add an aftermarket what about a tranny temp gage add one to a custom a-piller the factory cooler is adequate for your needs. a trans temp guage is always nice and an a pillar mount is a good choice. chryco service manager member sae thanks .

i have a 03 ram qc with the 20 wheels and have the same problem. i do a lot of towing 4500lbs boat and am used to turning the rotors every year 15000 miles. however i had it done at 5000 miles the first time. the next time few days ago was at 12000 miles with hardly any towing. they replaced the front rotors this time. with larger wheels it requires more braking pressure to stop the truck bigger rotors etc... i would assume that dodge would put bigger rotors on the 20 wheels i do not know if they did or not. i am concerned about what the future holds. will i need to turn the rotors two or three times a year the first two were paid for by dodge. is there a tsb has anyone else experienced the chronic warping of rotors that seems to come std. w/the 20 wheels on the 02 and newer rams i am wondering if anyone has had their problem truly fixed. i first experienced this problem w/ about 3000 miles on my 03. well the odometer just flipped 12000 and the problem is back. after the first trip to the dealer i had the rotors replaced and the problem seemed to be corrected. brake operation seemed normal no odd side effects. i just got the truck back from the dealer tonight and heres the latest fix which part of a tsb now - replaced both calipers in the front replaced front pads machined rotors after inspecting runout and thickenss. im surprised there was enough material left on the rotors to turn. on the trip home i had to make a fast stop. i had to push the pedal what seems like halfway to the floor now to get the brakes to really engage. when they do engage they feel kind of spongy does this sound like the technician didnt bleed the brakes completly could be air or they may have installed a pad that was a bit different from what you are use to. or they didnt bed them properly. roy .

i did mine and it is 3 bolts holding the assembly on. the shafts just pull right out with little effort. there is no way in hell it should cost that much. even an incompetent shop couldnt screw it up. its that easy. i do like the ease in which the bearings are replaced but do wish they were greasable. i think parts for both sides with warranty from autozone was under $350. so i just got an estimate to replace both universal joints and the wheel bearing hub assemblies in the front of my 1997 dodge ram 1500. i agree that i need this work the wheel bearings are shot and unfortunately sealed. whats worse they cant be seperated from the front assembly. anyhow the guys says $2200 to have this work done. does this seem excessive to anyone i feel like im being taken for a ride.... .

have them recomend or authorize a dealership to do the work as well. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving fyi - i found out that it is the blend door and the blend door motor that have gone bad. hmmm. well dodge chrysler is setting me back $800 to get those things installed...its crazy. unfortunately they have to completely remove the dash to get to those parts so the labor is whats jacking up the price so high. i looked at several good local repair guys just to see if i can get a better deal and none of them would even touch a job that complicated. oh well. what vehicle uses a vacuum motor to control the blend air door how would you control that positionally it would be less costly to use a stepper motor to position the door. what type of climat control does it have automatic temp or manual -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving many new hvac systems regulate temperature inside the cab by moving a blending door to choose between the heater core which is always on full and the a/c core which may or may not be on depending on your selection of switches on the dash. when the a/c compressor is called for the cooling coil will tend to maintain a cold temperature just like the heater coil maintains one hot temperature and you would then select a position for the damper door to get a blend of the two temperatures which makes you all comfy in the cab. if the temperature output of your unit is swinging wildly it must be that the blending door is malfunctioning. it is usually operated by using engine vacuum connected through a small hose to the switches or thermostat on your dash then to a small damper motor connected to the blender door. something in that series is not working properly .. a common problem is often that you have a vacuum leak somewhere else around the engine compartment that is not leaving the hvac system enough vacuum to operate properly. look for hoses under the hood that have been pinched or left off by some previous work ... or that a rodent has chewed through etc. listen around the engine compartment for some constant hissing ... repair as needed. ack! my a/c is acting up in my 2001 dodge ram i am beyond 36k miles & i need some advice. it blows either hot air or cold air...nothing or not much in between. my compressor always kicks on. the hot air always blows fine however the cold air will sometimes blow hot...actually about 50% of the time...and when it does blow cold itll switch to blowing hot usually within a couple minutes. sometimes turning it off & back on again will make it blow cold again...for just a few more minutes though. i took it to pep boys and they said they think its a problem with the vent door under the dash or something like that. i called the dealer and they think it might be something else no description given. i want to get some ideas of what it might be before i take it in to get it fixed and get a $2000 bill slight exaggeration there. anyway...what do you guys think thanks! steve .

if you cant find a suitable rack your local canoe outfitter will have special foam blocks that fit on the gunwales of the canoe for rooftop carrying. we canoe allot and use different vehicles to shuttle up and down the river. not all the vehicles have racks so we use the foam blocks and tie-downs without ever having any problems. randy ok so i found out that its just my luck that my 2003 durango is the only year that thule and yakima dont make roof racks for. i need to haul a canoe on top of my durango and im a bit leery of the cheap feel of the factory rack. it seems the whole thing is made of plastic and is held down by only four screws. i cant find much info on this on the net so im throwing it out there. questions for anyone who has an opinion 1 do you know of any decent aftermarket roof-rack that will hold a canoe mopar or otherwise for the 2003 durango and 2 do you consider the factory rack adequate to hold a canoe thanks ps question 3 is why does dodge put such a crappy rack on there i have been looking at other vehicles racks and they all seem to be better than mine. .

i had the same problem a while ago on a 2001. received several replies here that it was the fuel pump and they were correct in my case. well not the fuel pump exactly but the internal check valve in the pump... if the check valve fails fuel will drain back and air will get into the injectors requiring a bit of cranking to purge the air. once started then everything is fine since the pump itself hasnt failed just the check valve. in the 2001 the check valve was integral with the rather expensive fuel pump maybe on the 95 they are separate components. jenny3kids@msn.net wrote hi guys 1995 360. i recently replaced the battery plugs distributor cap air filter oil filter and plug wires and all has been hunky dory for about 3 months. in the last two days it has taken quite a few more spins of the starter to fire up. this morning it was 45deg out and it took about 5 seconds but after breakfast with the engine still hot it took about 10 seconds of cranking. once it starts it is still the brt big red truck i know and love. any suggestions where to start looking thanks in advance. -- kind regards jenny and her tribe of survivors. .
