Q: on mon 1 dec 2003 085729 -0600 thomas allemani tallemani@comcast.net wrote the truck is a 1999 2500 q cab 4x4 v-10 the mileage sucks but i have no trouble w moutians pulling a 27 ft tt w slide out. anyway on the way home from the coast to mn we were wanting to get home so we started to travel at night. after a couple hours w the lights ou i could smell something like plastic that was very hot i know what that smells like cause i used to work in a moulding shop at one time as i was saying i started to feel around the dashboard -- the lightswitch was hot enough u couldnt keep a finger on it also the dash all around it. we pulled into a rest area and shut it down for the night. have driven daytime since and forgot about it till now. untill i saw the post about the loss of headlights on this group. has anybody else had this happen to their truck i have driven at night briefly since the switch gets warm but not hot like before. i will will go to the dealer with it but i would like to know if other trucks have had this problem also for when they tell me this is normal ill know if it is or not. yes- i did buy the extended warranty.- the milage is 32000. any info would be appericated thanks had the same problem on a 93. i did not have a aux trailer relay. the light switch would only handle the light current of the truck. i installed a aux relay for the trailer and put in a new truck light switch and problem solved. i controlled the aux relay from a side marker light. .

i have a 99 3500 5.9 td that kept blowing off the intercooler hoses when the truck is under load. after cleaning and reinstalling them they continued to blow off. took to dealer they put them back on and told me it was ok. i said your nuts and blew the hoses within two miles of the dealer. i documented everything i did up to that point they just repeated it. i wish i made 75 dollars an hour to repeat someones work! i took the truck home ordered 1 new hose from piers diesel bought new clamps used the sandpaper trick on the top hose new piers on the bottom no more blowing hoses. if i would have thought about it when it happened for the first time i lost the lower hose from turbo piping into intercooler inlet and some oil drained out. the rubber had become soft and nothing was going to hold it on! also dodge wanted $178 for the hose got it for less than $70 from piers and the quality does not compare. had a heck of a time getting it on and aligned but has not come off since. in order to help facilitate installation i used some slime that is water based meaning it will dry once we got the hose on. dont use any oil based lubricant! the slime i used was from a cold pack that my brothers insulin is shipped in from the drug company. one 3500 one intrepid one caravan one toyota highlander. i will never buy a dodge again. if it werent for the cummins the 3500 would be gone also. anyone want to buy an intrepid with a 42le problem! dodge sucks.... their service sucks... 5 star my ass i think that is what they see when the hood of the intrepid hits them in the head because the hood shocks dont work! i hate to say it but we have had 3 camrys and now the highlander. none ever went back for service ever! i do brakes timing belts etc. pm is expected new trannys balljoints at 50k tackbar at the same time on a full ton truck new evaporator at 60k i think not. you learn by your mistakes please learn from mine. tdr tries to sell these pieces of crap off as expected problems i say bull buy something that is engineered well buy foreign. . my dodge cummins is the best truck i ever owned. the truck or the engine has given me no problems to talk about better than any dam chevy that i owned. my silverado at 65000 miles the windows didnt roll downall of my instruments went out 1 at a time except for the speedometer all instruments lights burnt out 1 at a time. everything works on my dodge. .
