Q: wddodge@woh.rr.com writes refresh my memory a bit does this only happen after the engine is warmed up have you taken a compression check with the engine hot and after cooled off 97 ram cc/slt 5.2l 80800 miles. compression check was only on a cold engine and showed no probs all cyls 130 psi or better cyl 7 was not the highest but was among the higher ones. the dealer sublet replaced the cat and an upstream o2 sensor at approx 65000. the problem seems limited to occurring only at very low rpm below 1000 as in when decelerating to a stop and/or sitting idling at a traffic light. hold your foot on the accelerator pedal to hold idle at or above 1000 and the p0307 wont occur. engine is up to normal op temp when the event occurs. doesnt happen immediately at low idle but will occur sometime within the first minute of an extended idle period. happens idling in gear as well as idling in neutral or park. 52 psi fuel pressure. the problem has been ongoing for 18-20 months but initially we didnt realize it was happening only during decel or at low rpm. also at first flushing the injectors would provide some extended relief usually several months at a time. we replaced the coil plugs wires rotor iac did tsb 18-48-98 and now the cc cleaner. unrelated also replaced battery and air cleaner. even now whenever the code is cleared the truck runs like a scalded dog no drivability issues at all excellent power smooth shifting and no surging. with p0307 stored it is slightly rough idle and some minor noticeable loss of power. .

up in the truck and the mpg gain will be a lot higher in winter when front axle lube is thick from cold. isnt winter when you want the 4x4 more than any other time i believe dynatrac now offers a manual hub conversion kit for these trucks. if youre concerned about mpg that would be the way to go rather than disassemble the front end because presumably you bought the 4wd because you felt youd need it at some point. .

sorry about that its a 1988 ram 1500 pickup. 88 they didnt go to the four-digit model numbering until 94. if its really an 88 then its either a d-150 or a w-150. .

i am wondering if any of you are aware of a problem in the newer ram trucks mines an 03. recently while driving my brake and abs warning lamp came on and the speedo immediately dropped to zero and stayed there..... anyone have any idea what happened without getting plugged in to the obdii failure of the rear wheel speed sensor. common problem - easy fix. if its still under warranty you can go that route or you can fix it yourself for about $30. unplug the electrical from the sensor located on top of the rear differential housing then unbolt the sensor hold-down bracket. youll probably have to remove another nut and move the brake line out of the way in order to remove the sensor. put the new one in bolt everything back down and re-install the electrical connector. should take about 5 minutes. .

when you switch wires does the other one quit yes it does. ive had the harneses out before. is that the only reason one wouldnt squirt. because i beleave i had the same voltage at both sides but ill have to check again. the computer or smec single module engine controller has two outputs for the injectors. one wire 18 wt is pin 2-9 at the computer the other wire 18 tn is 2-10. the color stays the same all the way to the injector plug. on the injector plug the outside wires are the grounds both 16 gauge black wires. the center two are the drive signals. there is a connector right fender that they pass thru. use a test lamp. dont use a digital meter to troubleshoot this or you will get lots of confusing readings. 18 tn is an 18 gauge tan wire the other is 18 gauge white. just look at the colors at the injector plug to be sure. btw i do not have a wiring diagram for an 88 this info is from an 89 manual. i believe they are the same. if the signal is at the computer terminals and you cant find the break in the wiring just jump the wire from the computer to the injector connector. in a pinch you could disconnect the dead wire and jump the good wire to both injectors. my 89 manual says the smec is in the center of the dash panel. hope this helps good luck al .

on an 1988 d150 w/3.9 autosmec. the truck seems to not have enough fuel. no fault codes except 12 and i noticed only one injector seems to put out fuel. now if i switch the injector wires then the other one works.should fuel be at both injectors or just one until more fuel is needed 12 is the one that tells you your battery have been disconected correct. thanks in advance they should both squirt. when you switch wires does the other one quit sounds like a bad connection broken wire or a bad computer. al .
