Q: does anyone know if cd has resolved the pinging problem in the 5.9l ram 2500 my 1998 truck pings if the road even looks like it goes uphill. i dont want to take it to the dealer without the lasted on the problem. i see others have returned trucks because of it i would prefer to get it fixed if that is possible. its not just the noise the truck seems to have less pulling power when this happens. or is cd just ignoring the problem thanks in advance. scout .

i cant speak to the specifics of the original posters problem or explain why it has taken so long to repair his vehicle i can offer a reason why it may be happening. keep in mind that this explanation is not meant to be an excuse just info that may help everyone to understand what may be happening first of all and for many reasons the summer months are a zoo in a service department. it is by far our busiest time of year just like thanksgiving and christmas are to the airlines. also the summer heat takes its toll on cars that are poorly or marginally maintained and on components that may be about to fail. many folks dont plan ahead but suddenly discover the day before their vacation that the buggy needs some work and then its crisis time. in our shop and many others like it i presume we try to have and provide a stable work environment for our employees and avoid layoffs. thus we structure our manpower needs based upon our average workload. by doing so during the summer months when we are at our busiest we find that we do begin to accumulate a backlog of work and some customers may have to wait to have their cars repaired. qualified technicians are not a commodity that can be added or subtracted at will or on short notice thus sometimes especially during the crush of summer customers may not get their cars fixed as fast as they want. sorry but its a fact of life that we and they must deal with. the airlines do not structure their fleet around their thanksgiving/christmas needs only to leave the planes idle the rest of the year do they we cannot and wont hire the techs required to handle the summer rush only to lay em off three months later.... it wouldnt be fair to them and there arent enough qualified techs out there to do that with anyway. i can sympathize with those who have vehicles stuck at the shop waiting to be worked on. i have been in their position myself and it aint fun. however i would ask those who are quick to criticize when something doesnt go their way to stop and consider the other guys position before launching into a tirade. i would invite anyone to come and spend a week with me watch what we do and then tell us how to fix it. betcha cant! mike so if im understanding this topic correctly the problem is that there are so many broken down dodges sitting at dealers that theyve got enough work and dont have any impetus to treat the customer any better than they absolutely have to... which would explain why when i went into the local selling dealer which i havent been to in 4 1/2 years since they last screwed up a repair on my truck and requested that a technician accompany me for a test drive to verify a torque converter lock/unlock problem that was presenting at that moment... they were too busy... so ill find a different dealer again and with a little luck itll be another 4 1/2 years before i go back in there... oh and while i agree that some customers have a poor attitude at dealers it would be very good for the dealer to remember that those same customers will recommend that their friends family acquaintances and co-workers buy from that dealer or from a different one. and 1 pissed off customer will tell a whole lot more people about their shabby treatment than a happy one will tell of their good treatment... .

bad wheel bearing or universal joint if 4wd. from abc a@a.com date thu 24 jul 2003 140956 gmt subject re ram shakes when i hit the brakes. only after a few miles. my truck is doing the same thing but i hear a clicking noise coming from the front left side. i had to stop real fast the other day and thought i was going to hit the car in front of me. lets just say the abs braking system is working great!! i havent tried replacing the rotors yet but was wondering what the clicking noise could be .

well my truck is a 98 2wd automatic ram 1500 extra cab. i had the brakes replaced a year ago and noticed the shuttering happening almost immediately. i took it back to the mechanic and he said he couldnt see anything wrong with the brakes. guess i wasnt aggressive enough and have lived with it since then. seems to have gotten worse and really need to get it fixed. it shutters about 75% of the time. the other 25% it seems to be normal. that was why i was wondering if maybe something was wrong with a sensor in the abs system or maybe a problem in the computer that can be reset by disconnecting the battery. had not thought about the wheel bearing but wouldnt that cause the shuttering 100% of the time bad wheel bearing or universal joint if 4wd. from abc a@a.com date thu 24 jul 2003 140956 gmt subject re ram shakes when i hit the brakes. only after a few miles. my truck is doing the same thing but i hear a clicking noise coming from the front left side. i had to stop real fast the other day and thought i was going to hit the car in front of me. lets just say the abs braking system is working great!! i havent tried replacing the rotors yet but was wondering what the clicking noise could be .

i thought id buy a little car to save gas as i now drive an hour to work every day but.. my 90 shadow has been sitting for several weeks while i did some body work painting etc. and now it will crank but not start up. when attempting to start it there is often a strong smell of gasoline. the trouble code it flashed was 41- alternator field control circuit open or shorted. the only work i did related to the electrical system was install new speakers a subwoofer and fog lights. i also replaced the hall effect sensor as i was having stalling problems. the haynes manual has nothing on this particular circuit if anyone could tell me where it is located on the alternator and also if a short elsewhere on the vehicle could trigger this error code and keep it fthe engine from starting i would greatly appreciate it. thanks . .

eldon jons wrote budd wrote this state is owned and operated by the lds mormon church. subtly they have worked the lds principals into many if not most of the laws and then when someone comments the laws are biased toward lds members they claim religious persecution. you pretty much hit the nail on the head budd. i would also like to add some comments on their effects on social and work settings. if you cant handle the lds way of life you will have a tough time in utah and most of idaho for that matter. with the lds everything is connected to the church. that is their social structure. if you are a very social person you will find that you are not a part of their social life and will feel like you are not a part of the community. i think this is encouraged among the ranks this is very evident in the small towns. fortunately cities the size of st. george and larger have a good mix of other religions so there are other people to socialize with. still it annoys some people. i never have had trouble with other beliefs except in utah. elsewhere i have the policy of answering questions and misstatements when necessary. in this state the word goes out you are not a mormon and you are suddenly a lower lifeform...an insect to be crushed or ignored if your lucky. i had no problems with their way of life and actually fit in quite well im a pretty easy going clean cut guy. my wife is a head-strong driven person who had a few more problems fitting into a culture that has suppressed women since their beginning. it was a constant struggle with the male lds co-workers healthcare btw who couldnt handle her take charge personality. if it wasnt for that aspect i would probably still be living there. i was told in slc that as a non mormon my job options would be restricted. i was told by my lds boss in another job that i would be trained each day in mormonism in order to keep my job. he didnt tell me he would corrupt my work employment counselor and cause me to lose accounts i later had an employer tell me why he dropped me. thats a christianity the world does not need. so long.... eldon ; http//community.webtv.net/ejutah/acpictures http//community.webtv.net/sodakid2/allallischalmers .

hey all just got the 2500 quad hemi. any suggestions on what to throw on it for improved gas mileage and hp talk about a contradiction in terms. roy sorry either/or. jason. really then how did dc get both with the hemi over the 360 and 318 id wonder about weight and ride height. i doubt that it weighs any less and it may actually be taller then it was. either way it still has more hp and gets better mileage. still would like to know if they have shaved a few hundred pounds off the weight of the truck. that would pick up the mpg seems to me that they are a bit closer to the ground. also would pick up the mpg. i am not sure that lowering a rolling brick an inch or so would do much for a mileage increase especially city mileage. now a weight loss would have some effect but i dont know where they would remove it from. perhaps the rear suspension with the way so many people are bitching about it now. the weight lose might also apply to the engine. a few lightweight goodies and you grab some hp. i doubt that they would go that route. those light weight components cost money that would eat into profits on a production engine. the hemi design is capable of producing extreme power on its own for a given fuel usage provided it stays in tune and with the computer controls of today that is much easier to do. there are two ways of increasing hp. if you make an engine more efficient then you get more hp for the same amount of fuel and that gives you better mileage by default. the other way is simply to ram more air and fuel into it and that is the either or method that you are referring to. the ram of more air doesnt really come into play until over 60mph unless it is a turbo or sc. imo the turbo or super charger are what i was referring to by ramming more air and fuel into the engine and it comes into play the second that you step on the gas. the problem with them is that they really dont make the engine any more efficient and when they come into play you lose mileage. i thought you were playing with one of those k$n deals. na actually the k&n air filters and intakes throttle body spacers headers free flow exhausts hot ignitions and such things are attempting to add hp by increasing the efficiency of the engine and as usual their effectiveness is subject to debate. was just reading an article on a vortech sc. 2500rpm is about where they come to life they arent really instant on. for street use i figure that would probably be better. never get the tires hooked up otherwise. that would make sense with that type of supercharger. if you have a low revving engine like a stock 318 you could always overdrive it to get the boost sooner. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

thats what i figured. have a bunch of work to do. how was the trip home did you go 90. i put on 300 mile round trip 25mpg. not too shabby for the toy. roy no problems on the trip home. left old orchard about 6 am and went east on 90. traffic really sucked!! i would really hate to see it when it was bad. had to make a detour on 91 down into conn. so kim could get some shot glasses. then had to go back 91 to vermont to get shot glasses. hey it was only 150 miles out of the way! g we ended up taking 88 to 86 across ny. i hate to drive the same road twice and the traffic wasnt bad at all. 25 mpg for the way you drive april fools day is done past my friend. vbg the ole van got 23.4 for the trip. i cant complain any. the house was still here when we got home and the yard needed mowing. i guess vacation is officially over.... denny .

my move in 2000 went fine but then i towed a 6 x 12 trailer behind my truck not renting a truck and towing my vehicle. recently another friend rented a u-haul truck to tow his own dead blazer back to ca with no problems. u-haul and the others have lost ground but i think its more due to lack of dealer quality control than u-haul itself. budd im afraid that i have to disagree with you here budd. if they actually had any respect for their name or their customers they should enforce their franchise rules far more strictly. it seems that they are just interested in the money and figure that they have a huge market of suckers to screw over. i was going to use them myself but now i will look else ware perhaps budget. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving rasclay wrote i thought everyone already knew that uhaul was crap. there was a 20/20 or dateline report a few years ago which showed how they lied and put customers into unsafe vehicles. you gave them a lot longer chance to keep screwing you than i would have. nathan w. collier wrote thanks for the story. i wonder how many customers uhaul has lost now because of us reading nates letter. i hope all of them......and not for punitive reasons but to save themselves a whole lotta hurt. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com .

this is why i dont buy vehicles with auto trannys! buying autos is like play russian roulet. sticks get better mileage anyhoo. sadly the better mileage thing isnt as true as it used to be. with the new computer controlled od automatics their posted mileage sometimes exceeds the manuals especially if you keep it in a lower gear to pass or just forget to shift into od. personally though i still prefer the standard they are just more fun unless you are stuck in traffic. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

its called the nimby attitude not in my back yard how often has proposed liberal legislation shifted responsibility from the liberals to other groups or political entities in their ongoing efforts to avoid paying the piper. hint think on the words; constantly eternally dedicatedly religiously. budd miles wrote tbone wrote on them. the whole purpose of the mileage requirements is to help reduce our dependency on foreign oil you know the real reason that we are now in iraq getting our boys killed. dang liberal mentality. if liberals are so concerned about foreign dependency then why do they prevent almost all drilling and oil exploration in the us im sure there must a ton of oil in liberia. .
