Q: out here in the west you would be responsible for damage to the livestock and your truck... 351cj that would be open range fenced areas the farmer is responsible for keeping livestock off the roadways. last person i knew that hit a horse the horse owner got fined for letting his animal be loose and the driver got a ticket because he was driving to fast for conditions ie couldnt stop in his sight distance - on the assumption i suppose that if the cow had been a pedestrian or a stalled vehicle... driver didnt have to pay for the horse vehicle was only worth about junkyard price so dont know where it would have gone from there if it was worth persuing... -- gary carter what if the hokey pokey is what it really is all about hope you got a police report. the farmers insurance should cover the damages for his negligence of letting the cows out. your insurance company probably will attempt to collect from his. david started to work this am crested a hill and 8 cows standing in the road about 30 ft away. missed them all but 1 and hit him with the right front fender. i was only doing 25mph on impact we just had 12 of snow over ice. damage to fender bumper grill hood headlight assembly and who knows what else. i will let the group know what the total damage is. was able to drive it to the dealer for repair. fwi the cow layed in the road for about 5 min. then got up and walked back to the farmers pasture so i assume it was not injured. .
