Q: at approx 121 pm cst a major explosion rocked the bp amoco refinery in texas city a southeast houston tx suburb. the area of the plant involved in the explosion processes approx 450000 gallons per day of octane enhancers more commonly known in the industry as gasoline additives. oil prices initially spiked on the but industry analysts say the loss of this processing facility will have more effect on retail gasoline prices than it will oil prices since the output of this facility is used to boost the octane of already-refined gasoline. consumers of mid and high octane grades as well as consumers in areas of the country where special additives are required to meet state-mandated emission standards. this refinery provided 30% of bp amocos total daily output of refined fuels and 3% of the us daily total. initial reports indicate at least 4 dead and more than 100 injured. the death toll is expected to rise as cleanup operations get underway. .

hboothe@gte.net says... hey bdk you mention one or more problems and i might be able to help but id like to narrow the problems down first. when you say the viper has suddenly died do you mean it no longer remote starts at all or do you mean the second problem you mention that the blower fails to run the odd idiot lights you got; were they while it was remote started or when you started the truck with the key just like it didnt have the remote start in the truck post back and ill see if i can help. --hc well it looks like the brain of the remote starter died again. it always starts fine but theres no blower. i was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else a this is the second time in less than a year.. sorry if i was confusing.. i was very sleepy when i typed it.. bdk .

a fender removal is tough but beats the he out of a complete dash removal and dropping the steering wheel and evac + recharge of the a/c system. i had several vehicles that were easy to moderate in difficulty for the same job. my 02 exploder took 20 minutes and the old mustang took an hour or so. dodge van in the late 80s took 12 hours. had a gm that took a couple hours leisurely. any mfr that buries the heater core should guarantee it for the life of the car. they can make them easier they just want to stick it to you for repairs. john doe wrote why does chrysler insist on burying parts designed to wear out behind so much other stuff. parts with a 3-5 year life expectancy should not require 8-12 hours labor to replace. my 2000 dakota has a heater core leak. the entire dash has to be removed then the heater /evap box has to be removed and that means the a/c must be emptied flushed and refilled with r134. 8-12 hours shop time for a 100.00 part. plus who knows what else will need replacing along the way! dodge has done crap like this for years and i hoped it had wised up. and this is just wrong on soo many levels! anyone got any tricks to help a poor $ap save about a grand a do it himself. i had to remove the right front fender of a buick just to replace the heater motor. 6 in one hand and half to much in the other. jam .

i need some help diagnosing a problem with my wifes 98 durango 4x4 with 360 and the selectable part time and full time transfer case. anyway when turning left or right or stopping or accelerating from a dead stop a popping noise is coming from what feels like the steering column. like up under the dash or on the inside of the firewall. also i found a clean gray or silver bolt that was broken in half under where the wife usually parks her durango. the bolt was around 1.5 inches and had a locking nut on it. i dont know for sure if this came off the durango but the popping noise appeared about the time i found that bolt. i have looked under the hood for a missing bolt and havent found one yet. i havent removed the plastic under carriage covers yet to see if that might reveal a hole somewhere in need of a bolt with locking nut. the steering wheel and column do not feel loose. the popping noise also seems more pronounced after the vehicle is heated up or it is above 60 degrees outside. the steering pump does have a little whining noise and i have had the wife turn the steering wheel left and right repeatedly while i watched the power steering and linkage move. no audible popping while that was going on either. im just before taking it to the dealer and letting them try to find the source of the popping. any help here would be much appreciated. ben .

based on your post and the nothing to lose principle ive ended up drilling a hole thru the wiper arm and into the motor shaft to secure it with a stainless steel screw and a small amount of epoxy. it appears to be holding though i have a new van on order and only need it to last another month or so. thanks for your reply. .

aside from how fast it drops... my gas gauge after i fill the 25 gallon tank stays above f for about 120 miles. then in the next 280 miles the gauge drops like a lead balloon. why the heck cant dodge make a reliable gauge anyway a week ago the gas gauge was on 1/8 of a tank. i ran out of gas two miles later. what the is this normal or is my gauge messed up the first time i ran out of gas with this truck it was really on e. ram 1500 4x4 318. thanks steve .

running at 900 to 1000 rpm the alternator/regulator should put out 14.2 to 14.5 volts. i would check your meter with known good vehicle charging its battery you can mark the face of the meter with a grease pencil if you want. or check against known good battery not charging about 12.5 volts. if your output is still low i would check that the alternator belt is properly taut and not glazed this would cause slipping - you did mention that the meter dropped 2 to 3 volts. if that is ok i would then check the regulator - its probably integral to the alternator. someone more knowledgeable about specifics should answer that procedure. @twister.southeast.rr.com 13 seems a bit low especially for a dc product. what rpm was the engine running at when you tested it truck was just started after sitting for an hour or 2 in 20 degree weathers so in effect it was a cold engine... so it was around 900 rpms ... i ran the test for 2 straight minutes and doing so the rpms drop to around 750 which is normal *for me*. multimeter dropped a few times to 2- 3 but bounced right back up in that 2 minutes. -- regards slick willy 73 cb 450 95 xj 600 03 flstf - parted ways in late july 04 flhrci - entering geezerdom at a mere 32 ... remove the bendover to reply .

no i bought an 04 3500 dually in wisconsin and shipped it to germany. so it was my problem. i went to a chrysler dealer and he made me the deal cash no tax under the table. i also wanted a factory radio. i am pretty sure he has another. these come standard from chrysler and the new owners swap them out for aftermarket units. he ends up with the original radios which he sells to people like me. i paid 400 euros. steve steve i would like more info on the radio you installed. did chrysler provide it because of the problems jem yes to the low sensitivity. i do not know about the quality. however i had an additional problem as well. in europe they use a 9khz station spacing boudary and in north america a 10 khz station boundary exists. what this means is that some stations will not fine tune electronically as the fine tuning frequency adjustment range is less than the boundary difference. most aftermarket radios have a switch that you set manually depending on your location. however chrysler has a range of radios that are sold in europe that work automatically wherever they are. i changed mine out and the replacement is plug size and color interchangable. my new radio is am fm lw cd and cassette and is a factory radio. it works very very well. i do not have the rb option code but i could get it if somebody wants it. steve i have a 04 ram q cab with just the standard radio. i am in ct and the area is rather hilly. but..... some of the stations that formerly were received well in my other trucks are full of static. would a longer antenae mast cause the reception to get getter or is it just a lower quality radio jem .
