1 take it to auto zone and let them clear it for free. 2 put a piece of black tape over the lite for a couple months. 3 take it to the dealer and pay him $50. bill -- ive already asked this question in another thread and no one has replied so ill ask again. i had a vacuum leak and fixed it but i now need to know how to reset the computer or clear the code so the check engine light will go off. ive got an 01 dakota with 4.7. many thanks. dyno .

mine stayed in memory; didnt even have to reset the clock. but i only had the battery disconnected for a few minutes. if you hold the key in the start position for 20 seconds or so with the battery disconnected it clears the computer. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies d. bell @nothing.com wrote in then be ready to redo all your radio presets - dynosaur wrote ive already asked this question in another thread and no one has replied so ill ask again. i had a vacuum leak and fixed it but i now need to know how to reset the computer or clear the code so the check engine light will go off. ive got an 01 dakota with 4.7. many thanks. just remove the battery cable for 15 minutes or so. that will clear it. .

i ended up removing the ground cable for a few hours and i did move the key forward to acc for a few seconds after i had removed the battery cable. i was a little surprised to see that even after being without power that the radio did not lose any of the presets ; the check engine light did in fact go off so im all set once again. thanks much dyno mine stayed in memory; didnt even have to reset the clock. but i only had the battery disconnected for a few minutes. if you hold the key in the start position for 20 seconds or so with the battery disconnected it clears the computer. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies d. bell @nothing.com wrote in then be ready to redo all your radio presets - dynosaur wrote ive already asked this question in another thread and no one has replied so ill ask again. i had a vacuum leak and fixed it but i now need to know how to reset the computer or clear the code so the check engine light will go off. ive got an 01 dakota with 4.7. many thanks. just remove the battery cable for 15 minutes or so. that will clear it. .
