check your lower steering column ujoints for loosness. dont mees with steering gear adj! durango 99 steering feels too loose with insufficient feedback. vehicle does not pull to left/right when driving and ive just had tires & upper ball joints replaced and wheels aligned. i suppose the looseness in steering is at least partially due to high tire profile 265/75/15 cooper discoverer but even so it feels too much. is this normal can the steering be tightened up possible faults in steering column i know there was an adjuster bolt on my isuzu trooper which helped with a similar problem. peter .

hey bdk you mention one or more problems and i might be able to help but id like to narrow the problems down first. when you say the viper has suddenly died do you mean it no longer remote starts at all or do you mean the second problem you mention that the blower fails to run the odd idiot lights you got; were they while it was remote started or when you started the truck with the key just like it didnt have the remote start in the truck post back and ill see if i can help. --hc .

durango 99 replaced airbags and engine stalled immediately after starting. little bit of gas would keep it running tho. check engine did not light. after disconnecting & reconnecting the battery it now runs fine. i wonder what could be the problem here airbag control module was replaced as well could it have interfered with pcm or something airbag light is off btw... peter .

hello all. i used to lurk around here a few years back when i had my 1984 ramcharger. its since long gone but last june i bought a 1995 ram 1500 laramie slt. i have recently been having a little trouble with the engine light coming on while driving. but more important than that is the difficulty she has in switching from 2nd to 3rd gear. could the 2 be related. should i bring her to my mechanic or my tranny guy im interested in learning about this stuff i have precious little knowledge of engines etc.. but i want to keep this baby around. i bought her in near mint condition and would like to keep her that way as long as possible. bryan .

1 where do i tap in to turbo to get boost pressure for gauge i bought the gauge kit and cannot find any information. i am guessing on output from turbo unit you can remove the intake horn from the left drivers side of the engine and drill/tap it for a fitting 11/32 drill bit and an 1/8-27 tap for an 1/8-npt fitting. or you can get whats called a boost bolt. this is a hollow bolt with a large head already tapped for the 1/8 fitting. you remove one of your intake manifold bolts and replace it with this boost bolt then just hook your fitting and tubing up to it. you can get one of these here among several other places http//www.piersdiesel.com/dodgeproducts.htm its the 11th item down in the list. 2 i am looking for dimmable dash light power source +12v which dims with dash light switch for the above gauges internal lamp wiring harness location color of wire appreciated well you can tap the wire right off the back of the headlight switch. in my 99 fsm it shows a tan wire. that may have changed in 01. the easiest thing to do is take a multimeter or a test light safe to use in this instance because youre probing +12v lighting circuitry and find the wire that varies voltage/brightness when you operate the dimmer. the dash bezel is easy enough to remove it just pulls off and the headlight switch is only held in place with three screws. an alternative spot is right at the fuse panel. fuse #5 is a 5a fuse that gets its power from the dimmer output of the headlamp switch. you could tap here as well although i recommend tapping the headlamp switch wire - that way all the external wiring is nice and hidden behind the dash. i also highly recommend the swenco posi-tap connectors for this type of work http//www.posi-lock.com. i just installed three more gauges in my truck this weekend and all my taps are made with these connectors. really fast really secure and best of all easy to disassemble and add more wires for future gauges. most auto parts stores napa autozone etc carry these connectors. 3 where can i grab +12v ignition to power gauges only on when engine is running. wiring harness location color of wire appreciated! i like using the cigarette lighter power wire for this - its got its own 20a fuse and at least in my truck goes completely unused. you can tap this when you have the dash bezel removed as well. the red wire to the connector is the hot side verify with meter/test-light to be sure. 4i bought a new drivers side pillar mount plastic piece. my research on the net has revealed the following information you can remove the old plastic and replace with new. or you can just put new plastic over the old. anyone with experience in these methods which is better it depends on what you bought... the full replacement pillar is just that - a complete pillar with molded-in gauges. it would have a solid back and spring clips to fit into the steel a-pillar. the other type is a shell with an open back thats meant to fit over the existing plastic pillar. on my truck i didnt use the pillar mainly because i didnt want to have to hack off my grab handle 03 and up trucks have a drivers side grab handle just like in the passenger side. .

i had the same problem with a 2.5 dakota 96 and i solve it by cleaning the inyectors at least 2 of them and the other 2 were replaced. clt. buckykatt05@yahoo.com wrote ive got a 97 ram with the 5.2 engine and it takes about 4 or 5 seconds to get it started. i replaced the fuel pump about 6 months ago so im sure it gets plenty of fuel pressure. where do i need to start looking to figure out what is keeping it from starting quickly when i first got the truck it would take just a quick turn of the key to get going. thanks. .

thanks for the recommendation. i found the viper 791xv for $189.00 at electronics bonanza. it looks like a great system. how well does the remote communicate with the alarm system through walls if im inside a building without any windows and the truck is parked outside 100 yards away will it still work you mentioned in another thread that the batteries need frequent replacement on the remote. does the system need any re-programming after changing batteries -- ken .

please bring me up to date here tom. what is a cad central axle disconnect. the passenger-side axle is actually in two pieces and inner and outer section. the cad is a device that slides a locking collar to couple the two shafts together or disconnect them. when disconnected the passenger front wheel/hub just spins the outer shaft. the drivers side wheel/hub spins the left axle shaft which in turn spins the side and spider gears of the front differential but the front driveshaft isnt spinning. the operation of the cad in stock configuration is controlled via engine vacuum switched through a vacuum switch in the transfer case. when shifted into 4wd either high or low vacuum is applied to the cad motor which makes the collar move and the front axle engages. the 2wd low conversions separate the transfer case and front axle operations so that you can engage the transfer case into low range but leave the front axle disconnected leaving your vehicle in 2wd. in this operation the front driveshaft is turning along with the rear driveshaft but since the passenger-side axle isnt connected you can make sharp turns without binding up the driveline. this isnt an option on the 3rd gen trucks becuase their front axles are solid one-piece units and therefore always engaged. .
