Help me find what is wrong...driving me crazy

Q: hi i have a 91 dakota v6 - 3.9l 2 wd automatic with overdrive. from time to time it just dies this can happen while at a light or 80mph down hwy 75 or idling in my driveway; does not bugger about sputter or anything just dies. i have determined this is a loss of spark by pulling coil wire and holding to chassis. when vehicle is running good it throws a big fat long spark. when dead no spark. if i leave the hood up for 20-30 minutes it runs again. in other words the fault is heat sensitive. i have replaced the coil the rotor / cap and all wires. here is a big clue when i am waiting patently for it to cool spark is returned a little at a time it will almost start after about 15 minutes and when checking the coil wire i have a weak spark. i have cleaned all the connections i can find i have not changed the pickup on the distributor because i dont believe it could cause weak spark it would either fire or not fire. would an oxygen sensor do this big clues - heat sensitive...can drive away after 20-30 minutes. this has happened probably 15 times now - partial spark..means a connection opens and closes. dont know i have posted two pages of wiring schematics on my web site. will be on later tonight http//www.starpath-designs.com/dodge i would like to make a hotwire switch that i can bypass everything and take power right from battery to ignition. can anyone read the schematics and tell what i need to do. run a 12v + wire to coil thks bg mailto greer202@tampabay.rr.com - political tags - such as royalist communist democrat populist fascist liberal conservative and so forth - are never basic criteria. the human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. - robert heinlein .

thanks! i realized after crawling under the truck that the caliper bolts are easily visible on the back side of the wheel. what tripped me up is that on my wifes car 1997 mazda mpv the bolt heads are on the outside so you cant see them until the wheel is off. by the way its a metric allen head not sure exactly what size since i dont have metric allen wrenches. so im off to buy a set. thanks for the helpful information! dont waste your time with dip wad .. he doesnt like himself too much and takes it out on everyone else. my guess is that its a 7mm allen. i figured that out by taking the wheel off and checking then putting the wheel back on and driving to az. actually you can just climb under the car to look. im preparing to do my first brake job -- changing pads and rotors -- on my new to me 99 durango. a friend thinks they have torx heads on the caliper bolt. does anyone out there know exactly what i need to remove the bolt also any tips tricks or potential gotchas would be appreciated. thanks! .

do the three key switch thing and read the codes on the mil lamp. the dealer can read the codes with a reader also but it will cost ya money. do a web search and find a code chart that tells what they are. www.dodge.org is a good place to start. on thu 11 dec 2003 022358 gmt boner the cat boner33n-spam@tampabay.rr.com wrote where is this computer module located what all does a dealer computer check show up many thks your help one of a few things come to mind. a poor/bad ground to the computer should say ignition control or the coil. the pickup can go bad and cause weak spark on some electronic ignition units. the computer itself is going bad. if this one has the extra hose going to the intake to help keep it cool make sure that is working when you replace the new computer module. david hi i have a 91 dakota v6 - 3.9l 2 wd automatic with overdrive. from time to time it just dies this can happen while at a light or 80mph down hwy 75 or idling in my driveway; does not bugger about sputter or anything just dies. i have determined this is a loss of spark by pulling coil wire and holding to chassis. when vehicle is running good it throws a big fat long spark. when dead no spark. if i leave the hood up for 20-30 minutes it runs again. in other words the fault is heat sensitive. i have replaced the coil the rotor / cap and all wires. here is a big clue when i am waiting patently for it to cool spark is returned a little at a time it will almost start after about 15 minutes and when checking the coil wire i have a weak spark. i have cleaned all the connections i can find i have not changed the pickup on the distributor because i dont believe it could cause weak spark it would either fire or not fire. would an oxygen sensor do this big clues - heat sensitive...can drive away after 20-30 minutes. this has happened probably 15 times now - partial spark..means a connection opens and closes. dont know i have posted two pages of wiring schematics on my web site. will be on later tonight http//www.starpath-designs.com/dodge i would like to make a hotwire switch that i can bypass everything and take power right from battery to ignition. can anyone read the schematics and tell what i need to do. run a 12v + wire to coil thks bg mailto greer202@tampabay.rr.com - political tags - such as royalist communist democrat populist fascist liberal conservative and so forth - are never basic criteria. the human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. - robert heinlein .

turn the key to the on position not start then off three times but the third time leave it in the on position. count the blinks of the light on the dash. it puts out a code with short spaces between blinks. count the blinks. there is longer spacing between numbers and even longer spaces between codes in case there are multiple codes. then go to www.dodgeram.org and follow the links to the tech page. fmb only one b in fmb www.dodge.org doesnt come up as a good site are you sure this is right what are the three key switch thing http//www.dodgetruck.org/ .
