Q: tbone wrote our hybrids and conservation are probably not the entire reason but it is a part and i would say a significant part both directly and indirectly then you would be very wrong on your assumption. now i understand your warped logic. you really think conservation on gas in the usa is the significant reason for oil prices to drop. yep! why because we are using less and the price is coming down. at least i have these two facts to back up my theory. what about you oh thats right your only theory is that im wrong lol! rather than just using your own personal beliefs why not actually do a bit of research into whats happening globaly with regards to oil consumption production etc. in just the past year. i have what about you you keep making blanket statements about the global consumption of oil but have yet to back up anything or even say anything other than i am wrong. if you think that i am wrong then how about coming out with what you believe to be the real reason for the increase in reserves that caused the drop in price and then backing it up with something for a change. until you do your words are meaningless as it is clear that all you really want to do is argue with nothing to back it up or even something to back up at all which just makes you look foolish. then look at where massive demands for oil have occured in the world. us conservation is a main reason too funny. despite the sudden rise in chinas demand for oil we are still far and away the biggest user. now unless china has made a sudden turn around and is no longer using as much oil where do you think any significant reduction in usage is comming from because the increase in supply is either comming from reduced demand or the oil companies are manipulating the stated inventory which is also possible. oh thats right you also said that the oil companies cannot or do not do such things. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

the window sticker says semi floating rear 9 1/4 inch heavy duty rear axle. its on a 1997 ram maxi van 3500. does this require the posi lube additive from dodge if it doesnt say axle - anti-spin differential under the options section of the window sticker then no you dont have a limited slip and you dont need the additive. .

received your package today. took about 3 minutes to install and all is well once more. thanks tom! i do appreciate it. once in awhile its good to be reminded of how helpful this group can be. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com http//7slotgrille.com/images/forumpics/fds.jpg for the picture. im not laughing nate... really... im not.... any idea what im looking at here how much for the oem replacement hoses probably more than theyre worth. can i just buy the hoses any reason why generic hose from an autoparts store wouldnt work none whatsoever. nothing special about them at all - just your basic vacuum hoses. the only thing is if you have enough left on the connector end to splice onto. let me rummage around my garage tomorrow - i might still have the stock vacuum lines from my 2500 converted it to a mechanical linkage for 4x4 kicking around. .

gots to lay off the caffeine... heres the original post in dodge.truck f/ups set to both i want to first thank you for all the info and help you guys and the others have helped with this topic far. i went to a local speed shop k&g to talk to one of the guys i used to deal with many years ago. after the usual amenitites we got into it and he told me he hasnt sold an auburn in 6 years claiming due to many of the guys think it has a bad cone design and its not rebuildable. he liked the eatons or the detroit truetrac or suretrac. can bother you guys one more time about comparisons and your personal and professional opinions between the differences 1. i like the auburn design and appreciate the link from tbone. i like the hi-bias specs around 3.51 but the unit is not rebuildable and has to be replaced when worn. they give a 4 year warranty and along with $100 theyll send you a new unit. 2. the eaton looks nice as well which theyre advertising as bullet-proof but i didnt see any bias specs on it. 3. detroit http//www.tractech.com/products.htm a. the detroit truetrac has no clutches with a unique helical gear design and claims 2.5 to .3.5 to 1 bias the same on the highend as auburn but not sure what it means by controlled resistance with one wheel spinouts giving the other wheel gets sufficient power to get the vehicle moving. does that mean the wheel with traction will not grab but just get you out of a rut how about hi-horsepower situations will it grab and take off ive had a detroit locker before and dont want to go that route because its just way too much for the street and imo just a track unit but this trutrac looks like the benign version of the locker and looks interesting. b detroit suretrac /detroit lsd has cluthes and can be adjusted to give 1.5 to 3.01 or 2.5 to 4.01 bias. overkill or is the truetrac the better unit 4. the trac-lok seems to be the actual part that ford dodge jeep use in their lsd offerings. stock... forget it or if i were to get this i would just order it from dodge. 5. the power-lok posi looks nice with the 4 pinion gears with stackable clutches but not that ill be taking the thing apart anytime soon. confused... tia ace references traction aiding devices frequently asked questions tadfaq http//www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/diffs.htm jaws gear & axle - auburn eaton and tru-trac http//jawsgear.net/store/catalog/posi.phpcpath=31 .

tbone wrote yep! why because we are using less and the price is coming down. at least i have these two facts to back up my theory. what about you oh thats right your only theory is that im wrong lol! oil prices have dropped causing gas prices to drop. its mainly because of higher supply now lower demand. once again you mention lower demand with no reason for it. as for higher supply exactly where is this extra oil comming from please back up some of your arguments for a change. oil production has gone up and in the usa idle refineries were brought back online. the slight dip in usa demand has only a small effect not the main effect you wish to believe. whjich refineries were brought back on line please define a small dip. the reduction in us demand is much greater than you think. despite the sudden rise in chinas demand for oil we are still far and away the biggest user. now unless china has made a sudden turn around and is no longer using as much oil where do you think any significant reduction in usage oil production has been steadily increasing as has refinery capabilities. demand has not dropped anywheres near the same % that oil prices have dropped. and you can prove this how .

tbone wrote lol sorry miles but your rambling is really starting to show just how little you really know. i already said that the price went up because demand was exceeding supply additional demand from china. now what you need to come up with is a valid reason why the price is going back down which is something that you have yet to do. several reasons. oil production has risen idle refineries have come back online speculation of future high oil demand never materialized bringing oil futures back down. oh but i know it was mainly hybrids and conservation. lol you really are kinda funny miles but at least now you have something to say. to bad you still dont back anything up. exactly what idle refineries have come back online lets see a link. now even if this were true how would that lower the price of oil. refineries dont run for free so even though they may increase supply they do it at a cost. i see that you are also talking about the speculation of high demand that never materialized. why do you think that is never did could conservation have something to do with it or was the hype nothing more than artificial price control poor attempt to spin miles. i never claimed not to know why the price went up and have said the reason many times but you have yet to come up with a single reason why it went back down. yes i have stated the above a few times. you just keep reverting to hybrids and conservation and ignore reality of whats going on in the world though. its a bit bigger picture that what you wish to focus on. yes miles you do make many foggy and unsupported statements all of the time. the fact is that you do repeatedly use the reduction in demand as a primary reason for the reduction in the price of oil but fail to explain how this reduction in demand occurs. i believe that you just dont want to accept the fact that conservation can and does work because then god forbid you may feel the need to possibly give up something. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

tom lawrence wrote ...what bugs me is whats the difference between awd and 4hi which are the selectable options on the dash 4hi locks the front and rear driveshafts together which means something has to slip when making a turn that being the tires traction to the ground. awd allows the front and rear driveshafts to turn at different speeds using something very similar to the differential in question here just as your rear differential allows your rear axles to turn at different rates. thanks tom and tbone for the explanation. i didnt realize the transfer case acts like an open rear in awd but locks with 4hi. cool! ace .

tbone wrote they were the days when i had time to do that kind of stuff. i dont have all the tools needed anymore anyway. i know what you mean. they were the days when i had serious fun! - just to make sure if i go with the auburn ill also need to get a ring a pinion set along aftermarket bearings. what brand do you recommend for these you can and should use the ring gear and exciter ring from the factory unit no need to buy a new set. what you should do is order a new set of ring gear bolts. they may come in the master install kit that tom mentioned but if not make sure that you get them separately. tom also mentioned a rebuild where half of the ring gear bolts snapped and reusing the old ones can cause that type of failure. as for the bearings timken makes a good bearing. if you order a master install kit see if they have options as to what bearings they use and go with the best whatever they recomend. if they are selling an auburn rear they will probably be selling a quality install kit with good bearings as well. thanks again tbone. i forgot to hit send for the email to peytonperformance.com with my questions. glad i didnt send it yet because i added what you mentioned here about the ring bolts and bearings. good to know. thanks! youre welcome and good luck. thanks. this rear should bite nicely once i get this unit installed. waiting on a check to put this order in. i have to find out what theyll charge me at the dealer. i have a good report with them and will more than likely get a discount. i used to sell cars 15 years ago and their manager knows me and my old manager and the truck is the 4th vehicle ive bought/leased from them in the past 6 years. so i hope it wont be too bad. i have no idea what kind of time they give service for this sort of swap. i guess ill find out. i appreciate your time and effort tbone along with everyone else in this thread. maybe one day i can return the favor. im usually helping out folks in the microsoft public groups dns and active directory with computer related stuff. if i can help anyone out here please ask and ill try my best. thanks again ace .

if the r/s rear isnt working only-yes could be wiring-id start close to the switch though-i have a feelin you have lost part of the t/s switch should have three flashing wires-one flasher power-one r/f one r/r -if you have that-then you have a broken wire-or even a shorted wire -although that would blow the brake light fuse-unless it burned your switch contacts for r/r first-sounds complicated but its not-start near the switch- rt .

3 the original fuse box was replaced with a tridon 552. called advance auto they said 20 amp fuses control the turn signals. checked all 20 ampers and they are fine. checked a few other fuses nothing has been blown cant be the wiring can it. its absolutely the wiring... if the fuse were bad none of the lights would work the right side isnt fused separately from the left. the faster cycling of the flasher relay indicates a decreased load on the circuit ie. burned-out bulb. since you checked all the bulbs its either a bad socket or damaged wiring to that socket. get your meter and start checking things out. .

tbone wrote i think that the guy at the dodge dealer was lying because he didnt want to or was unable to swap the two units. actually what i said was that is not all that easy. now dont get me wrong it is not impossible but you need to be careful. removing the old one is the easy part. it is really just a matter of pulling the axles out which is no big deal and then 4 bolts later you have the carrier in your hands but that is where the easy part ends. putting the new one in can be a real pita. as suggested by others i would replace the carrier bearings with high quality after market ones because the ones dc uses suck!!!! the new carrier will not come with them so they will need to be ordered anyway so you might as well use good ones. they will also need to be pressed on and you will have to be careful when doing that. it will also not come with a ring gear or exciter ring and these will have to be removed from the old one as im sure that you expected and sometimes they come off easy but other times... you will also need to order new ring gear bolts. the hard part come when you put the new assembly back in. if the ring is not aligned properly with the pinion it is going to howl and will soon fail. you also have to set the carrier preload and backlash correctly and this is also part of the ring / pinion alignment. if you have not done this before it can be tricky and time consuming and will require a threaded adjuster tool a dial indicator with mount and gear pattern compound. you really cant even put the carrier back into the housing with out the threaded adjuster tool. if you really want to do this i would suggest calling one of the rear end companies and talk to them about what you will need and what is involved. i would also suggest using an aftermarket carrier such as an auburn unit since it is simply a better design. http//www.peytonperformance.com/item--auburn-542070--542070.html remember that if you do this work yourself it may void the warranty on the rear axle. thanks tbone for the very informative post. i think ill get the auburn diff and have the dealer install it. this way it wont void the warranty and theyll be responsible for it. i know it will be a couple extra bucks but with whats involved i think ill let them do it. besides its been many years since i had a diff apart and and this point i would rather not do it. i put my detroit locker in and had another guy helping who did one before and i remember that wasnt easy. they were the days when i had time to do that kind of stuff. i dont have all the tools needed anymore anyway. that auburn diff looks like a nice piece. just to make sure if i go with the auburn ill also need to get a ring a pinion set along aftermarket bearings. what brand do you recommend for these thanks! ace .
