Help Buying a used Durango

From : Annonymous

Q: i am looking a 2003 durango sport 4.7 with 44000mi. and a 2000 durango slt with leather 24000mi 5.9 both are very nice condition but what i would like to find out is the 5.9 better reliable than the 4.7 which is better on gas do they both run on unleaded. every gas engine runs on unleaded if youre asking if they both run on regular 87 octane the answer is yes. both engines have good reliability records... the 5.9ls potential problem area is the intake manifolds bellypan or plenum gasket - its prone to leaking allowing the engine to suck in and burn oil. its a relatively simple problem to fix if it does occur. as for fuel economy the 4.7l will beat out the 5.9l. a co-worker drives a 00 durango 4x4 with the 5.9l and he gets a little better than 13mpg with mixed driving. id expect a couple more mpgs out of the 4.7l. if you plan on towing you might want to give the nod to the 5.9l for its higher torque. the 4.7l likes to rev and as such doesnt make a whole lot of power down low in the rpm range. .

duh. i left the good part out didnt i!! its a 95 ram 1500 318 2wd. yes it blows out there. vacuum leak. possibilities include the cruise control mechanism underneath the battery battery acid drips and erodes the vacuum line going to the canister causing a vacuum leak or a leaking intake plenum gasket. if you remove the pcv valve and can feel a vacuum when covering it with your thumb especially when revving the engine then you have a plenum gasket leak and will need to remove the intake manifold to repair it. i checked the pcv valve vacuum and there is none. i also tried revving up the engine and the air cond worked ok and i revved up the engine with it in gear and still ok but when i drive it it does is almost immediately. only for 10 seconds or so. its not really a big problem but just kinda irritating and hoped it would be simple. i am going to take out the battery and batt holder and check the hoses. i found the canister i think under the driver side door with 3 hoses. 1 large one secured good and 2 smaller ones and one of the smaller ones came out of the boot easily. ill try and seal it better and try again soon. .

hi max thanks for the info but whats the apps thanks; dave if it worked when it went to the dealer or he was supposed to fix it then take it back and tell him its not working right!! your symptoms sounds familiar check to see that the wire harness got plugged into the apps securely. -- max give a man a match and he is warm for a short while. light him on fire and he is warm for the rest of his life. will this cause a problem. since the dealer had the truck for the throttle link/ing wire upgrade. the truck will just idle fine will crap out when i try to drive loss of power will die than have to wait a few minutes then truck starts up and limp home. thanks; dave -- posted via demon.com - premium uncensored group service -------http//www.demon.com------ unlimited access anonymous accounts uncensored broadband access -- posted via demon.com - premium uncensored group service -------http//www.demon.com------ unlimited access anonymous accounts uncensored broadband access .

do you think it would be a good idea to have a extended warranty if i bought one only if its a chrysler service contract - most aftermarket warranties arent worth the paper theyre printed on .

coasty wrote high head pressure is caused by too much heat from and not enough cooling from the condensing coil thats the one by the radiator. it can also be caused by a overcharge of refrigerant or oil too. -- posted using the http//www.autoforumz.com interface at authors request articles individually checked for conformance to usenet standards topic url http//www.autoforumz.com/dodge-98-dakota-318-ftopict130829.html visit topic url to contact author reg. reqd. report abuse http//www.autoforumz.com/eform.phpp=637080 .

dont forget the rest of it.... if she aint happy long enough youll be unhappy with half your stuff if she aint happy you aint happy j. foxworthy remember the golden rule - happy wife happy life user@domain.invalid wrote a wife is a wife and if you love her you will just have to put up with her or if you dont tell her the next time you will be filing divorce papers. bob m wrote ytnyt wrote my wife has a 99 town and country w/3.0. i hear they are known for getting the belt knocked off from puddles and such. she has managed to knock hers off 4 times in the past year 3 puddles and 1 snow drift. asking her to slow down or go around seems to be out of the question. i replaced the belt and the tensioner seems to be holding the belt tight. my question is is there anything that will help keep the belt on putting it back on is a real pita. thanks ytnyt next time she does it make her walk home. then maybe shell slow down or avoid large puddles and snow banks. g bob .

when i bought my ram it had michelin ltx m/s load range e tires which were inflated to 80 lbs/sq in. when they wore out i got michelin ltx m/s regular load inflation pressure 32 lbs/in. i did not notice a smoother ride in fact i couldnt tell the difference however my gas milage is off a mpg or 2. i certainly notice the difference on my bicycle when the tires are low so i imagine the tire pressure affects the rolling resistance. so if you really want better gas milage increase the tire pressure to max allowed its written on the side of your tires. since we have discussed milage with the cummings diesels it spured my curiosity. i have a 04 1500 quad cab bought it off the lot came with a hemi small tires unknown gears probably factory standard if there is such a thing automatic trans gave up my lincoln ls and mazda b5000 for the ram and happy i did except for the 11 mile per gallon around town. maybe get 16 mpg on a long trip. anyone else care to say what they are getting with the same truck. any thoughts on how to increas the mpg short of taking the battery out and the tires off and enbalming it jem .
