Help! - Truck won't fit through garage door
From : b peg
Q: got one of those older flip-up style garage doors from the 80s. height open is about 76 3/4. dodge ram cab measures 77 with 20 wheels so it aint going in. luckily the 78 antenna height serves as a warning. i know the 17 wheel is available that would lower it by maybe 1 1/2 but would like the cushier ride and grip of the 20 inchers. i cant find a lower profile 20 tire either. i could let the air out and refill on exiting garage but that aint gonna happen - although it may making stealing it a bit more interesting. aside from the option of lowering the truck 1/2 to 1 inch is there any way to make a flip door raise in height by 1 inch short of buying a new roll-up door that would make for about 6 inches more height overall garage would need to be reframed for the roll-up tracks ugh!. tia. bp .

i doubt seriously that the garage would have to be reframed for roll up door. the tracks are simply attached to joists with straping for the most part. wont cost a dime to get a garage door company to come out and give you an estimate. got one of those older flip-up style garage doors from the 80s. height open is about 76 3/4. dodge ram cab measures 77 with 20 wheels so it aint going in. luckily the 78 antenna height serves as a warning. i know the 17 wheel is available that would lower it by maybe 1 1/2 but would like the cushier ride and grip of the 20 inchers. i cant find a lower profile 20 tire either. i could let the air out and refill on exiting garage but that aint gonna happen - although it may making stealing it a bit more interesting. aside from the option of lowering the truck 1/2 to 1 inch is there any way to make a flip door raise in height by 1 inch short of buying a new roll-up door that would make for about 6 inches more height overall garage would need to be reframed for the roll-up tracks ugh!. tia. bp .

same thing with my 2003 ram 3/4 ton 4x4 crew. have both noticed paint chipping and it scratches way too easy. otherwise i like the truck. mike my 2003 2500slt cummins quadcab 4x4 has the same problem.. just sneeze and it makes a chip especially around the door edges and tailgate. also it seems to scratch easier than any other vehicle ive ever owned. ive seen neons and others that have huge patches of paint that has peeled off while at the car wash just primer showing in these spots... the paint is about the only thing i would change on my dodge otherwise i love the truck!!!! this may only be a problem with my truck but i thought id post just in case others seem to have similar problems. my truck 2002 3/4 ton 4x4 diesel paint chips very easily. after 6 months and not going down gravel roads i began to notice paint chipping. i have previously owned chevys and they were used offroad way more than this dodge with very little paint problems. any insight. .

id say you just got a whopper of an excuse to add on another garage bay or maybe a detached garage/workshop out back.... jason got one of those older flip-up style garage doors from the 80s. height open is about 76 3/4. dodge ram cab measures 77 with 20 wheels so it aint going in. luckily the 78 antenna height serves as a warning. i know the 17 wheel is available that would lower it by maybe 1 1/2 but would like the cushier ride and grip of the 20 inchers. i cant find a lower profile 20 tire either. i could let the air out and refill on exiting garage but that aint gonna happen - although it may making stealing it a bit more interesting. aside from the option of lowering the truck 1/2 to 1 inch is there any way to make a flip door raise in height by 1 inch short of buying a new roll-up door that would make for about 6 inches more height overall garage would need to be reframed for the roll-up tracks ugh!. tia. bp .

i just found this group recently so im a bet late getting to this. i had the same problem when i got my 95. i simply ripped one inch off of the 2x6 from the bottom of the door. its not structural like the top member is and worked perfectly. hope ya got it sorted out. --mike got one of those older flip-up style garage doors from the 80s. height open is about 76 3/4. dodge ram cab measures 77 with 20 wheels so it aint going in. luckily the 78 antenna height serves as a warning. i know the 17 wheel is available that would lower it by maybe 1 1/2 but would like the cushier ride and grip of the 20 inchers. i cant find a lower profile 20 tire either. i could let the air out and refill on exiting garage but that aint gonna happen - although it may making stealing it a bit more interesting. aside from the option of lowering the truck 1/2 to 1 inch is there any way to make a flip door raise in height by 1 inch short of buying a new roll-up door that would make for about 6 inches more height overall garage would need to be reframed for the roll-up tracks ugh!. tia. bp .
