Headliner Problem

From : joe

Q: here are a few things i found while looking for info on my dodge stealth rt. seems to be applicapble to most vehicles. sounds feesable http//www.ultimateresourceguides.com/content/freemods/88-91crx-freemods.html ky that should be about the same thing as a high rise manifold that we used to use back in the 70s to increase power and fuel economy. while it should be it actually isnt. you are talking about too very different animals here. back then we were very surprised that when we added spacers under the carb between the carb and the intake it actually increase fuel economy and performance. yes they did and for many reasons. first they kept the carb cooler which allowed for a denser fuel charge performance second they helped in the mixing of the air and fuel prior to entering the cylinder economy and third in some cases they increased the air flow velocity which helped to cram more air and fuel into the cylinders performance. in a modern computer controlled multi-port fuel injected engine the first two reasons are eliminated and all that is left is the last one and even there unless the design was inefficient much more common with the factory manifolds of the 70s there is little chance of any ram effect either so the only real mileage improvement comes from the weight loss of your wallet. if there is a way to open up the exhaust as well such as headers that will improve it more than anything else you could do. once again this is incorrect. todays engines are specifically set up to run the way they were built. opening up the exhaust even in the past helped the most at higher engine rpms. todays engines are configured to run with an expected amount of back pressure and the valve timing is set up with that in mind. if you open up the exhaust you will be spitting some of your air fuel charge into the exhaust and the o2 sensor will see that as a run rich condition and lean out the mixture. this will result in less power which will also reduce mileage and create a high ping rate as well. but i dont know how legal it is to add headers anymore since the introduction of the catalytic converter. i am unaware of any law against adding headers as long as they are compatable with the emmissions standards of the vehicle. i saw an article in pop hot rod in the mid 80s where they took ford catalytic converters and put them on chevy vehicles to increase performance it seems that at least back then the ford converters were more open and didnt choke down the exhaust as much as the other vehicle makers. they may all use the same converters now though i dont know i have not worked on an engine in 30 years. with the push for better economy i would say that for the most part the factory converters for standard passenger vehicles are all just about the same for flow characteristics. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

on thu 9 aug 2007 112004 -0400 tbone tbonenospam@nc.rr.com wrote marksegal@optonline.net wrote it is an automatic so no clutch. its the same type of smell though. another thing that i notice is the heavier the payload the less travel i have on the brake pedal. i dont know if that is a safety feature reduction of brake time/making the brakes more sensitive. thanks! hmmm thats a tough one. no built in safety feature like that. the only real differance between empty and loaded is the height of the suspension. check and see of a line is pinched doubtfull. also check the emergency brake cables. see if they are getting stretched when loaded. that would activate the parking brake. i would also look at the rear axles and bearings. i would not waste time with axles and bearings. it simple sounds like user uses brakes aggressively and when extra weight is in the truck it takes more brake friction to stop it and this results in more heat which can overheat brakes and cause odor. the solution is get a bigger truck install bigger brakes carry less load or brake more conservatily when carrying extra weight. do not waste time witch hunting for other problems like axles and bearing that is not likely your problem anyway because it only does it overloaded. if bearing were bad and axles leaking it woul effect braking all the time. ----------------- thesnoman.com .

z88z wrote slightly confused on this issue are ld and hd trucks based on model designations like dakota an 1500 are ld 2500 and 3500 are hd or does this have more to do wit various options available on any truck like engine/transmission/axl ratios or is it more suspension related more importantly were gas 5.9s available in both ld and hd trucks were both available in either 2wd or 4wd were 5 speeds available in both designations and were there gea ratios between the two different is the engine mapping different from ld to hd and if so which pc is more suitable for performance applications thanks tom i am planning a 5speed swap into my 98 5.9 zj jeep. im trying t figure which is the closest ratio of the nv tannies and which 5.9 pc has the closest mapping to my zj so i know what trucks to look for it would be configured for street rather than offroad so i reall dont want the nv4500 and the granny 1st gear. its a shame as gather they are close to bulletproof with the exception of some 5t gear problems im trying to decide between the nv3500 or the nv3550. neither on is a great trans in terms of durability but my choices are limited the nv3500 will be a direct fit but it would seem odd to have a manua trans without a removeable bellhousing the nv3550 can be adapted with some minor relieving of an ax1 bellhousing from a 3.9 motor. did they come behind 5.2s also i believe the nv3550 was only used on the wranglers and does not hav a factory 3.9 or 5.2 bellhousing but i could be wrong and i don think the 5.9/nv4500 bellhousing will fit the nv3550. im still trying to solve the pcm swap question regarding the abilit to reflash my vin into a used pcm. hear it cant be done but others say it can. 95% sure i need my vi in the pcm so the machine doesnt reject it during the ma emission inspections so i figure i would be using the pcm from a 98 5.9 5spd ram i also have a few dodge/jeep/auto/manual transfer case swa compatability questions that i will be posting in the next day o two thanks again for the good info - joh .

jasper towing & pnl mfg. co ltd. jasptow&pnl@townigs.com wrote in they probably didnt answer because you didnt give enough information. exactly what year and size alt. different years use different color wires but in this case i dont think that it really matters and the field wires should be interchangeable. bullshit the definition of your general knowledge i see. hook em up one way and it charges hook em up the other way and it discharges you have got to be the dumbest fucking retard to ever draw breath. an alternator typically used on american cars is an ac device without a commutator and using a rectifier to create the dc output desired. while switching the field wires will cause the ac signals to shift 180 degrees with respect to the original signals the rectifier diodes still only see an ac voltage and will still direct the positive spikes to the output lug and the negative spikes to ground. perhaps you are referring to a dc generator that uses a commutator in place of the bridge rectifier where reversing the polarity of the field would reverse polarity but that is not the case with the ops alternator. try it and watch the fucking gauge you ignorant twit perhaps you should get you facts straight before making yourself look like the ignorant twit that you are. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

suddenly without warning nosey exclaimed 8/2/2007 115 am worse though i think my engine started knocking! noise is in the right side of the engine block as i face the truck a tickticktick noise at about two ticks per second. that noise might be an exhaust leak. id take it back to the shop that did the exhaust work and have it checked for leaks. can you elaborate all he did was replace the muffler and do a physical check of the rest of the system. but im taking it back anyway since hes close and was recommended to me as a good mechanic. jmc .
