Had a battery boil
From : yonzie
Q: took out my battery out of my spraycoupe and cleaned the posts check the water levels in each cell. decided to charge it up a bit. set the timer for two hours and left it. went to the shop a couple days later open the door and could smell battery gasses. here the charger did not shut off i had set the timer the wrong way to run continuous. it was still boiling away the casing was nice and warm. i just shutoff the timer and walked away. let the thing cool down and have the gasses disappear. today i looked at the battery. the cells were dry. added distilled water took quite abit and put it on low charge. went back after four hours the cells were freezing abit. didnt want to charge it any longer so i brought the battery into the house. wonderin now if i screwed up the battery or what are my chances of it taking a full charge again. am i wasting my time trying to charge up this battery dale .

it sounds like your sol on that battery. after four hours even on a low charge it should not freeze. i would say that you probably cooked the material right off of the plates. if you have a hydrometer you can check the specific gravity of the cells but i think that you will find then wiped out. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving took out my battery out of my spraycoupe and cleaned the posts check the water levels in each cell. decided to charge it up a bit. set the timer for two hours and left it. went to the shop a couple days later open the door and could smell battery gasses. here the charger did not shut off i had set the timer the wrong way to run continuous. it was still boiling away the casing was nice and warm. i just shutoff the timer and walked away. let the thing cool down and have the gasses disappear. today i looked at the battery. the cells were dry. added distilled water took quite abit and put it on low charge. went back after four hours the cells were freezing abit. didnt want to charge it any longer so i brought the battery into the house. wonderin now if i screwed up the battery or what are my chances of it taking a full charge again. am i wasting my time trying to charge up this battery dale .

in order to replace the rear main do i have to go through the oil pan yes. see here http//www.pavementsucks.com/tech/rearmain.php what needs to be done to get the front seal replaced you need to remove the crank puller and pull the harmonic balancer wht the proper puller. then you can pry the old seal out and put a new one on. no need to remove the timing chain cover. rear differntial should i worry or what ummm... you rebuild engines and you have to ask if you should worry that you found broken chunks of metal in your rear diff .

hello group i have a 97 dakota 4 cylinder 2wd standard pick up. recently the heater stopped working i replaced the thermostat but still no heat. if i turn the switch to heat but dont turn on the fan a little heat comes out of the vents but if i turn on the fan all i get is cool air. any help so i can take care of this problem myself would be appreciated. robert. . 222 275376 3ffb92e9.16519023@.hiwaay.net new acid might help but it is unlikely since over charging tends to destroy the positive plates. the positive plate material tends to flake off and short out the cells. ohooooo***i see a new battery in you future*** on mon 05 jan 2004 011446 -0600 yonzie yonzie@mac.com wrote nospamsal1@qwest.net wrote took out my battery out of my spraycoupe and cleaned the posts check the water levels in each cell. decided to charge it up a bit. set the timer for two hours and left it. went to the shop a couple days later open the door and could smell battery gasses. here the charger did not shut off i had set the timer the wrong way to run continuous. it was still boiling away the casing was nice and warm. i just shutoff the timer and walked away. let the thing cool down and have the gasses disappear. today i looked at the battery. the cells were dry. added distilled water took quite abit and put it on low charge. went back after four hours the cells were freezing abit. didnt want to charge it any longer so i brought the battery into the house. wonderin now if i screwed up the battery or what are my chances of it taking a full charge again. am i wasting my time trying to charge up this battery dale dale you may have killed the battery but here is one thing you can try. charge the battery with a trickle charger for a few days. then dump all the acid out of all the cells and replace it with new acid. you can buy the acid at a real parts house or a battery shop. its not expensive so if the battery was less than two years old i would try it. al thanks for the info al had the battery on slow charge and the outside cells are good but the other four are low on the fair scale. the cells were reading a lot lower before so they are charging up a bit. will give a few more days of charging to see what happens. do a load test also. battery is about 3 to 4 years old. al i didnt know if you could dump out the old acid and put new acid in an old battery dale .
