thanks.. i took it to a shop and they could find no leak anywhere.. it took a charge and is working great.. they said to compare it to a tire that looses a few pounds of pressure over a 2-3 yr. period of time.. the truck is 4 yr. old so i hope that is all it was and i didnt waste my money on getting it charged only to have it go dead again in a few months.. take care everyone and thanks for the help...... rick hopefully yours will be an exception but generally if an ac system has lost its charge - theres a leak. a working system is operating at much higher pressures than a tire and contains far less freon volume-wise as tires contain air. sorry to say i suspect you will be in warm air again in a short period of time. eisboch .

i am thinking this too now.. when i turned on the ac today i got a puff of what i thought was dust out of the vents but then it disappeared very rapidly and was not dust... any ideas on that rick thanks.. i took it to a shop and they could find no leak anywhere.. it took a charge and is working great.. they said to compare it to a tire that looses a few pounds of pressure over a 2-3 yr. period of time.. the truck is 4 yr. old so i hope that is all it was and i didnt waste my money on getting it charged only to have it go dead again in a few months.. take care everyone and thanks for the help...... rick hopefully yours will be an exception but generally if an ac system has lost its charge - theres a leak. a working system is operating at much higher pressures than a tire and contains far less freon volume-wise as tires contain air. sorry to say i suspect you will be in warm air again in a short period of time. eisboch .

i wouldnt worry about it. of course there is a leak but if they cant find it it is probably too small to worry about. in a few more years it will need to be recharged again but by then the leak may have grown enough to find it. that puff of dust was probably ice crystals. my buddies ford does that all of the time. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i am thinking this too now.. when i turned on the ac today i got a puff of what i thought was dust out of the vents but then it disappeared very rapidly and was not dust... any ideas on that rick thanks.. i took it to a shop and they could find no leak anywhere.. it took a charge and is working great.. they said to compare it to a tire that looses a few pounds of pressure over a 2-3 yr. period of time.. the truck is 4 yr. old so i hope that is all it was and i didnt waste my money on getting it charged only to have it go dead again in a few months.. take care everyone and thanks for the help...... rick hopefully yours will be an exception but generally if an ac system has lost its charge - theres a leak. a working system is operating at much higher pressures than a tire and contains far less freon volume-wise as tires contain air. sorry to say i suspect you will be in warm air again in a short period of time. eisboch .

nope i wasnt the exception... it lasted 2 days and went out again.. they say they cannot find a leak anywhere.. they stuck the dye in the system and have looked nothing can be found... any ideas where a leak might be rick thanks.. i took it to a shop and they could find no leak anywhere.. it took a charge and is working great.. they said to compare it to a tire that looses a few pounds of pressure over a 2-3 yr. period of time.. the truck is 4 yr. old so i hope that is all it was and i didnt waste my money on getting it charged only to have it go dead again in a few months.. take care everyone and thanks for the help...... rick hopefully yours will be an exception but generally if an ac system has lost its charge - theres a leak. a working system is operating at much higher pressures than a tire and contains far less freon volume-wise as tires contain air. sorry to say i suspect you will be in warm air again in a short period of time. eisboch .

yep try the evaporator. thats likely where the leak is i see it a lot. if you have dye in the system put your light on this it will likely glow like crazy. you will have to take the door of the glovebox to see. and most of the dash will have to come out to replace. leave it to a pro. it wil cost ya $$$ good luck .

well it did turn out to be the evaporator core.. and the garage i had it at said they wont do the core.. they told me i need to find another garage or take it to a deal to get it done... has anyone here changed their own evap core if one had a weekend to do it is it possible to do it thanks rick yep try the evaporator. thats likely where the leak is i see it a lot. if you have dye in the system put your light on this it will likely glow like crazy. you will have to take the door of the glovebox to see. and most of the dash will have to come out to replace. leave it to a pro. it wil cost ya $$$ good luck .

cbhvac wrote same place all of them are...where they cant see...in the evap core. thats the normal place for them not to find dye that leaks about 45% of the time.. instead of usign a dye cant they use a sniffer .

dont put r-22 under your hood; it makes weird lumps in the hood. it doesnt seep out when it departs the system. rick thanks.. i took it to a shop and they could find no leak anywhere.. it took a charge and is working great.. they said to compare it to a tire that looses a few pounds of pressure over a 2-3 yr. period of time.. the truck is 4 yr. old so i hope that is all it was and i didnt waste my money on getting it charged only to have it go dead again in a few months.. take care everyone and thanks for the help...... rick im calling bs on this one. you have a leak somewheres. my 1975 valiant r-12 a/c works perfectly and it never been messed with. my 94 134a bonneville works great with only 250k on the clock. i really hate it when shops tell people that your *freon* is used up and you need a refill. bs- there is a leak somewhere. do you have to refill your fridge every 4 years hows about that old 10k btu window a/c unit thats been kicking since 1985 i know someones gonna start with the r-22 statements but its the same idea just different halons. later! de .

rick wrote there is air blowing out but always warm....... rick in that case take the advice of cbhvac. the blower system can usually be fixed by an owner with some patience and mechanical ability. the rest of it is usually best left to a shop with the proper test and servicing/recovery equipment. .

um...lp rick low pressure switch. if the system is low on charge the low pressure switch doesnt allow the compressor to engage. this saves replacing a destroyed compressor along with fixing the leak. denny my ac has stopped working.. i have replaced the ac compressor fuse and relay and still the compressor will not kick in.. is there anything else i should be looking for the air was working fine on the way to work. after sitting outside at work all day it would not come back on anymore.... this is for a 2000 dodge ram 1500 318 motor... thanks for any help.. rick umm.....keep slapping parts at it and you might fix it one day or you can find out where the leak is and fix it and have it recharged.. ten to one the lp switch is telling you something.. .
