Q: the factory reprogram just added fifth gear to the trans it is a second over drive. you do have six forward gears 122cfor 4-2 downshifts allows for a smoother shift34od5th second od. trans has two filters inside one bolt on and one spin on the bolt on filter there is two depending on 4x4 or not. bryan thanks for the info ... i put in a little over 6 quarts .. man that dipstick is so hard to read thats why its nice to know exactly how much it takes. well the only way i notice the other shift points is that on some grades it downshifts from 4th but it doesnt go down to 3rd. i have also noticed i think that it does the same in 3rd so i think its a 6 speed .. but most references to it are either 5 speed or multispeed ... sheesh. i never notice the half gears on an up-shift. cant get a filter kit from napa az chckr or pbs they keep giving me the wrong one. its always something. id like to reprogram the shift points because those 1/2 gears would be nice to be able to get into and stay in for longer amounts of time than the way they are now ... i live in the mountains and with the 3.55 rear end it just doesnt take advantage of the half gears. if you have an auto trans do you have five noticable shift points or six shift points while moving forward if you can feel six then you have a five speed with a five speed the trans computer has probaly been reprogrammed at one time anyway. the proper way to set trans fluid level on a 4.7 with and auto is by fluid temp and level on stick i have found that replacing both filters the trans takes a hair under 7 quarts of atf type 4 becareful of the new seal for the primary trans filter it can be difficult to install if you dont pay attention. good luck bryan .

budd that was my plan. i was considering using the carb from the california model as it has cruise control but i dont want to hassle with all the fine tuning on the california carb. did dodge make a 4 speed auto back then unbolt the blown engine/trans combo bolt in the good engine trans combo. the only differences are in emission controls if any and you can keep the ones used on the 23 if you dont tell anyone you swapped engines. budd kevin wrote i have a 1973 dodge 23 motorhome that has a blown engine. i just aquired an 1976 california model dodge 15 motorhome. both have the 360 with the 2 barrel. the 23 has a blown engine the 15 engine is good. any problems with swapping motors any special hints to help me any suggestions .

scott i do not have the rt durango but i do have a 2001 durango that i bought new. i absolutely love the vehicle. i have had zero problems with it. i am not a auto guy so my maintenance is not kept up real well either. 8-12k miles in-between oil changes. dohh... i got it with all options including the infinity system which i really like leather etc etc. i have done mods to the inside such as a full computer system with 11 touch screen to do moving map gps dvd tv internet access to play my 6500 mp3s nes snes n64 emulators for passengers obviously etc. but i have not done any engine or exterior mods. i have been in the process of building a house close on it on monday and i have been debating getting rid of it for a mercedes or bmw since i will have a much longer drive now. but i just can not get rid of it. i think about how much i would miss it. putting bikes on top dog kennels in the back snowboards hiking gear etc so i am opting to find a 98 or so bmw mercedes audi coupe for my main commuting. once you have an suv its tough not to have one! also...my 2001 has 51k miles on it. i have the smaller of the engines was it 5.2 that year or 4.7 yeah i am an it manager and a tech company owner...not a motor head - nathan since im now a father my regular cab ram 2500 4x4 cummins isnt quite big enough to haul everybody around. of course it will haul everything else around! - so im now looking at selling the ram and getting an suv or maybe even a new ram hd quad cab. right now dodge is offering $4500 cash allowance on durangos including the r/t model. this makes them very affordable especially when local dealers have a lot on their lots they are more likely to deal. i need to have the 5.9 l engine to get the towing capacity i need 6000 lb boat/trailer combo. the 5.9 l equipped r/t with the 3.92 rear-end will tow 7100 lbs. a little extra room to spare but not quite like what i have with the ram...... i know that dodge will be releasing a redesigned durango later this year as a 2004 thus the huge cash allowance. the new r/t is reported to have the 5.7 l hemi which would really kick ass. but good luck working a great deal and say good buy to the $4500 cash allowance. id rather have the 2004 but it is hard to justify the extra $$$$ just to pick up 100 more hp and only 40 more tq. but the new body style based on the concept is very appealing. additionally im not crazy about buying the first year of a newly redesigned truck. so anybody have an r/t from 2003 or even prior years any particular comments good or bad mileage reliability performance im already used to the right pull on the ram so if it has that i wont even notice...... the hds have a $2500 cash allowance but it would cost about $4500 more than the durango. not that much in terms of payments about $70 a month. well thanks in advance for any advice. scott collins 98 ram 2500 4x4 cummins 12 valve newcastle wa .

papa smurf wrote educated republican oxymoron - heavy on the moron tell me bright eyes how many more republicans are on the welfare roles due to lack of education then democrats. you know that might be an interesting study. must be embarrasing to the dems or we would have heard that one already in the nighty . id be inertested to know the stats on unemployed dems vs reps as well as how long they stay unemployed before finding work. --- suddenly a small amount of republicans start searching the web and a small amount of democrats apply for government grants... forgive my lack of knowledge of us political parties as i am an englishman - i take it the democrats are the very right wing party and the republicans are the even more right wing party -- julian. ---------- general melchett from blackadder describing his regiments coat of arms . . . .two dead frenchmen atop a pile of dead frenchmen. . . . . .
