**Gulp** K&N again...

Q: it is obvious from what you said that you are not getting fuel to the injectors. when this happens verify that the fuel pump is getting power with a volt meter. if it is getting power can you hear it run if the engine is not turning over after a few seconds the power to the fuel pump is turned off by the computer as a safety measure. if you have no pressure to the fuel rail 1 no fuel in tank 2 bad pump 3 bad fuel pressure regulator dumps all fuel back to tank 4 plugged fuel filter 5 bad fuel pump relay 6 bad computer 7 rusty electrical connection or ground connection 8 water in the gas tank that will not go through the pump sock screen a code 12 is battery disconnected. you did this. if you do not want to pay to hope and poke parts at it you will have to be able to make a series of measurements during the time when it is not running. you can do it smart and take a some time to make measurements or pay lots of money and shotgun all the parts that might be the cause of the problem. both methods work eventually. thanks for the infoeveryone!. yes i did dis-connect the battery hence the code 12. i also replaced the relay to no avail. i went through all wires hoses etc and found nothing amiss. have not checked the regulator but the pump can be heard running even when the motor isnt getting enough fuel when i open the gascap and listen in. when it runs correctly the fuel sprays hard out of the rail too but i dont have a pressure tester to see how much is actually there but its night & day compared to when it runs rough. im hoping against the computer especially with less than 50k on it. i did buy bad gas 4 days ago and my truck died within 5 miles of leaving the pump. it was blowing white smoke pretty bad so i got to another gas station and bought more gas and put a bottle of iso ion the tank. within a half-hour everything was fine with no more problems until 2 days ago when i got more gasat a different station and i parked the truck for the night and went out the next day and the 10-mile b.s. started to happen but isnt going away now. maybe the water in the fuel messed up the pump module i cant prove i even got gas there because i never got a receipt for it never do but im going to from now on...especially in the winter! .

three things to check glove box light this nearly drove me to distraction on a cougar once trunk light underhood light if youre sure that all three are off when they should be the next step is to unhook the negative cable insert a meter analog like the simpson 260 is best set on amps between cable and battery and start pulling fuses while checking the meter. when the meter drops to near zero youve found it 2.5 a is way too much normal would be a couple of milliamps to maybe 15 or so clock ecm keep-alive etc g i have a 93 olds eighty-eight. i recently replaced the battery and alternator. i know the alt. was shot as it blew the rear bearing out of it. the battery kept going dead so i took it out and put it on slow charge for about 26 hours. after overnight in the car it went dead again. figuring that it was just the cheap wally world battery that my son bought i replaced it again today with a better one. my electrician friend checked the amp draw with everything in the car shut off andthe ignition off and it shows a 2.5 amp constant draw. i know it draws a little to keep the computer memory but is this an excessive draw i need to know what is considered normal before i start hunting for the culprit. any tips would be appreciated. randy .

the normal draw from the battery is less than 0.04 amps. 2.5 amps sounds like either a light is on or the alternator field is always on. did you swap the two small wires to the back of the new alternator on sun 25 jan 2004 201948 -0500 prowler99 camcopa2002@yahoo.com wrote i have a 93 olds eighty-eight. i recently replaced the battery and alternator. i know the alt. was shot as it blew the rear bearing out of it. the battery kept going dead so i took it out and put it on slow charge for about 26 hours. after overnight in the car it went dead again. figuring that it was just the cheap wally world battery that my son bought i replaced it again today with a better one. my electrician friend checked the amp draw with everything in the car shut off andthe ignition off and it shows a 2.5 amp constant draw. i know it draws a little to keep the computer memory but is this an excessive draw i need to know what is considered normal before i start hunting for the culprit. any tips would be appreciated. randy .

he doesnt seem to think much of the oem fuel/water filter. his background is repairing diesel logging equipment in northern ontario. if i kept my diesel in a rusty barrel out in the elements i probably wouldnt think much of stock water separators either drain the stock one as recommended and dont worry abou it ill start watching reality tv shows when i can vote people off the planet. .

have a 96 with only the oem filter and have never had to drain a drop or water. -- goat for reply post to group only hello. i have recently purchased a 97 dodge 4x4 cummins diesel truck. a friend strongly recommends i install a reyco water separator or some other brand in addition to the oem fuel/water filter. he doesnt seem to think much of the oem fuel/water filter. his background is repairing diesel logging equipment in northern ontario. do i really need to do this the owners manual recommends against this. thanks in advance for any advise. irp .
