General questions Cylinder head gasket (I hope)
From : tbone
Q: you could have the cooling system pressure tested as well and checked for leakdown. it is possible that you may have warped the head. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving this group has some great specific information regarding dodge trucks that i have used well and contributed to when i could and i hope will translate well enough for my 1998 isuzu amigo 2.2l its a gm engine. problem i didnt notice the coolant temperature guage until it was into the red line stopped found a ruptured radiator hose replaced the hose filled with water and noticed a white vapor and gasoline smell from the radiator when the engine was cool and running. oil dip stick doesnt show signs of water. engine starts easily when cold and warms up faster than normal i havent started it when warm question in general besides cylinder compression tests what should i look for to determine if ive wrecked the engine or if i only need to replace the cylnder head gasket .

pensacola is in florida. heres a link to mapquest http//www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adpsearchtype=address&country=us&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&cat=&address=&city=pensacola&state=fl&zipcode= i also would like to know when they are sinkin the ship and what flat top are they gonna sink i didnt know any had been decomissioned recently. -- -chris 05 ctd 99 durango i detect sarcasm in your post. but thats okay ive already considered all the drawbacks you seem to be subliminally implying.....unless im reading you wrong. i am still motivated to see this truck recycled as much as possible. so here is the first installment of my experience to recycle my truck. captains log; stardate 0072523/04/06ad i ran an ad for the truck in my local paper on saturday. the ad was hidden under an obscure heading because i had other stuff for sale as well. the first day i received seven calls about the truck. demographics for the callers are mostly *young man needing a restore project for an auto repair course *mechanically inclined current owners of d50/mitsubishi trucks looking for a part truck *mechanical entrepreneurs who buyrepairresell. what contributed to the strong interest my d50 it could be the reputation of the 2.6l...simple and easy to work on good gas consumption gas prices are crazy stoopid in canada. it could be the clean sporty appearance. it could be the tuffiness of the body. my motivation is to see a perfectly good truck in the hands of persons with skills to use the parts or the whole truck. im turning this into a project but i dont want to waste too much time dispensing of the truck. im looking for the smartest most time efficient system of doing this thing. there are to many newer parts and the frame/ body is in to good of shape to give it to the wreckers...best offer from a wrecker was $75. sure throwing this truck away would be the cheapest and easiest thing to do or with a little effort it could put a smile on the face of someone who is deserving and able to keep it running. as far as wasting my time with people with no money or off topic calls as you suggested...hey youd be surprised what you can learn and the interesting people you meet. some people call it networking. i call it extending yourself. if the person has no money and i think he deserves a break theyll get the part for free. when are you bombing the aircraft carrier might be interesting to watch eh. btw where the heck is pensacola is that in the usa or sumpin...yall ivan wrote ive decided to part out my 89 d50 ram rather than repair the engine. im wondering if there is a way to do a reverse look up for auto parts. i want to know which models/years or what other vehicles a particular part will fit. ========= ========= you know ive got this old tv set ive been thinking of doing the same thing with........ so.... if you dont mind....... let me know how this works out for you. you know... keep a log of all the time and effort for me then do a repost when all the parts are gone or untill you gits frustrated......... sos i can make an intelligent decision on whether or not i want to do it with my tv set. cuz....... lifes reeeeelly kinda short you know and if i can just junk it out for a couple of bucks to buy some fishn bait with..... then im liable to save myself all that time and aggrevation and jest take the money and fill up the ole boat motor and have myself one extry fishn day before i die. but....... if it all works out well for you.... i may be a tight enough ass to spend all the effort to let someone come and yank it apart for $5 a tube...... you know cuz....i aint gonna do it that would take away from my fishn time. and besides...ill be a bit busy answern all the bullshit phone calls from folks with no money weeding through the perspective sales and answern their funny off-topic questions........to go yankn the parts off for them. so.....please..... if this thing works out good for you....... oh......fk..it........... who am i tryn to fool............ i still wouldnt waste my time with it.......... but.....i do hope it works out well for you. marshmonster suggests you sale the truck as is.....use the money to come on down to pensacola and watch us blow the hell out of a aircraft carrier and sink it .

im planning to at least remove the head this week maybe this weekend for inspection then will decide what to do next. at least i found a complete remanufactured head for $350. the hard part is finding a gasket! this is a fun little car but finding parts for it is often difficult. the hose that burst wasnt even listed at 3 autoparts stores in my area. note a pressure test or cyl leak down test will only tell you where the leak is. if its in a cyl then you will still have to tear into the engine to tell if its just the gasket or something more. -- -chris 05 ctd 99 durango a warped head or cracked block is what im most afraid of. ill pressure test the cooling system too. thanks. you could have the cooling system pressure tested as well and checked for leakdown. it is possible that you may have warped the head. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving this gr

are you going to the discount houses or to a real parts house the head set for a gm 2.2l shouldnt be that hard to find no matter what its mounted in. -- -chris 05 ctd 99 durango im planning to at least remove the head this week maybe this weekend for inspection then will decide what to do next. at least i found a complete remanufactured head for $350. the hard part is finding a gasket! this is a fun little car but finding parts for it is often difficult. the hose that burst wasnt even listed at 3 autoparts stores in my area. note a pressure test or cyl leak down test will only tell you where the leak is. if its in a cyl then you will still have to tear into the engine to tell if its just the gasket or something more. -- -chris 05 ctd 99 durango a warped head or cracked block is what im most afraid of. ill pressure test the cooling system too. thanks. you could have the cooling system pressure tested as well and checked for leakdown. it is possible that you may have warped the head. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving this group has some great specific information regarding dodge trucks that i have used well and contributed to when i could and i hope will translate well enough for my 1998 isuzu amigo 2.2l its a gm engine. problem i didnt notice the coolant temperature guage until it was into the red line stopped found a ruptured radiator hose replaced the hose filled with water and noticed a white vapor and gasoline smell from the radiator when the engine was cool and running. oil dip stick doesnt show signs of water. engine starts easily when cold and warms up faster than normal i havent started it when warm question in general besides cylinder compression tests what should i look for to determine if ive wrecked the engine or if i only need to replace the cylnder head gasket .

i was looking on the internet killing a little time during lunch and getting and idea for prices. i havent called any of the local autoparts stores or shops until i pull the head and know what i really need. its been raining the last couple of days and i dont have room in the garage but its supposed to clear this weekend so i hope to get to it and the yard install a dual battery setup in my ram and a half dozen other outside things. are you going to the discount houses or to a real parts house the head set for a gm 2.2l shouldnt be that hard to find no matter what its mounted in.
