Gauges are wacked again!!!
From : msyjsy
Q: as mentioned in a previous post my gauges were jumping all over the place whenever i used the multifunction switch. disconnected the switch and the gauges went to their normal position. replaced the switch and everything was ok. almost a week passes by. today i took the time to inspect the spark plugs. started the thing up when i was done and gauges are all whacked out again. so now i am thinking that maybe the old switch was ok and that there is an intermittent problem under the hood that i activated when brushing against a harness or something. so i disconnect the multifunction switch. but this time the gauges are not going back to what is normal. and when i turn on the headlight switch the gauges peg in illogical directions and the tach goes to zero. i put the switch back in at this point and start her up. gauges are boinking allover the place still and turning on the headlight switch causes the signal and bright indicators to flash on the dash. i push the emergency flasher button and everything is back normal. there was a lot more symptoms but im to confused to list them. at one point i think before taking the multifunction out this last time turning on the headlights and using the blinkers resulted in the opposite turn signal indicator to light than what i was using. and using the flashers did not activate the indicators at one point although the markers outside worked properly everything has always been normal outside flashers flash and blinkers blink markers all on headlights worked everything but the dash. i cannot seem to produce these symptoms at will i wonder if there is a history of intermittent problems with these switches. or if there is a common place that could have a problem that would produce these symptoms other than the switch. i only wish that i still possessed the old switch so that i could put it back in to see what happens. i am beginning to think i paid the $68.00 to replace it for nothing other than to confuse the hell out of myself. if you are any less confused than i am after getting this far in this post then send me a wild guess. -- from the desk of jesse a. harrington .
