ok now i see what you mean. i was only looking at the secondary side of the circuit. it would probably have taken me a while to find that one lol. i take it this was a standard shift since the auto grounds the starter relay through the neutral safety switch. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i understand that but if the engine ground was the entire problem then it really doesnt matter how you connect the hot side since nothing you do there will effect the ground. no... it was the wiring harness ground at the engine. the ground for the relays coil took this path. the starter itself is grounded right to the block. there still has to be some sort of voltage drop caused by the starter relay and compounded by the bad ground or i must be missing something and not understanding exactly what you were doing to bypass the starter relay. shorting terminals 30 and 87 together. 30 goes to the battery 87 goes to the starter solenoid. it was g209 the harness ground at the power steering pump bracket that was the culprit. ground cable from battery to engine was good. .

how do you disconnect the speedometer disconnect the four multi-wired connectors from the silver box on the passenger side of the firewall - engine side. .
