theguy wrote the glock of course was designed for military use. that is why it is so simple and has no manual safety. the austrian military specs prohibited that. it had to jump through a lot of hoops for the austrian military the chief being durability it had to take just about any type of punishment and keep shooting. that is also why it will continue to fire without a magazine in it as long as a round is in battery. a lot of people in the us dont like that feeling it is unsafe but for military purposes it is a requirment. the gun was so successful in the austrian military that it came over to canada for le use. leo in the us then picked up on it and it slowly made its way into us le use in the us. it now probably the most popular gun in the us le. the marketing of this however was to get the popularity of the gun up high enough to market it to the consumer because that is where the money is made. they have done a good job of that and it is taking off here. keep in mind glock has only been in the us about 20 years! they got a prety remarkable record for that brief period of time. i understand what nate has said about the history of the acp but i wouldnt bet against glock. they have some excellent technical people including mr. glock himself and i think the gap fits a niche that will keep it around for some time. whats truly amazing is gaston glock never designed a gun in his life before this. from what i heard he really didnt even shoot much. the acp and gap ballistics are tied and i suspect both will be around forever. just different rolls for each such as the acp becoming more of a custom target pistol and the gap gaining acceptance as a carry pistol mainly due to that slimmer grip that can still hold a double stack magazine. for home defense either one will do. i was seriously thinking about getting a springfield mil-tec 1911 this year but i think i will hold off now. if springfield should produce a mil-tec 1911 in the gap that holds 10 plus rounds that would be a must have item for me. on the other hand i may just go with the acp because of nostalgia. the glock .......... well they are proven and reliable but to me they are just............ kind of ugly. jerry .

ive picked up an xm satellite receiver for the truck and am wondering if anyone has come up with a good way of mounting the antenna on the roof. im not so much concerned about the antenna seeing as how it has a strong magnetic base but i would like to somehow hide the wire. as it is now the wire basically drapes on the roof and is tucked alongside the windshield ran down the side of the door frame and into the cab. drilling a hole in the roof is an option i guess but there has to be a better way. i thought of a small bead of white silicon the truck is white to hold the wire in place or maybe i could find some very strong weather resistant tape to secure the wire but would like to hear what others have done with similar situations. thanks david... .

what exactly is a voltage system insert the words of the. do you even know what a voltage drop is yes. we are not talking about the battery voltage here max we are talking about the voltage at a particular component a headlight within a specific circuit and it can be different lower than what you see at the battery. it can be but in my experience its not. unless something elsewhere in the electrical system is drawing more amperage than the system can supply such as a grid heater the system doesnt drop voltage particularly if the alternator is doing its job. remember we are not talking about the batteries state of charge here we are talking about a loss of voltage due to resistance in a circuit. exactly. so....unless the lamp can somehow flow more current than can be supplied at 12v the voltage will never drop. thus if the lamp can flow more amperage than the circuit can supply there will be a voltage drop. turn that lamp out and even if the circuit has been corroded down to one strand as mine was youll see battery voltage in the circuit. given that the factory wiring on my truck supplies enough amperage to illuminate the lamp and maintains battery voltage mr. sterns claim of a drop to 11v from a system that when running supplies 14v or more is highly unlikely unless the individual vehicle has a problem. what you seem to not understand is that the wire has some internal resistance per foot and thinner wire has more internal resistance that a heavier guage. i understand that perfectly. ive eliminated the stock wiring as being a source of voltage drop because ive checked many systems including the one on a dodge truck and found that mr. sterns claim simply isnt true on a dodge truck. as such i doubt its true on all vehicles as mr. stern asserts. however if the lamps mr. stern is supplying need more amperage the larger guage wire is logical. even one strand will read at battery voltage it just cant carry the amperage. thus no voltage drop until the amperage required exceeds the amperage the circuit can deliver. on a stock system the voltage will not drop from a stock headlamp because the circuit is designed to deliver the amperage needed. the point is that a lamp can flow more current than can be supplied at 12v if the wiring and/or switch is not also up to delivering that amount of current at 12v. bingo. but as ive said numerous times thats not the case in a stock vehicle. thus the claim of a voltage drop cannot be made as a blanket statement. it can happen but will not happen on a stock vehicle in good condition. that is correct. current lights the lamp not voltage but voltage determines how much current is going to pass thru your lamp. rubbish. the resistance determines this for any given voltage. for all your preaching you forgot its interdependant not just voltage. since the lamp was not lit there was no current passing thru the circuit and with no current you get no voltage drop so there will be battery voltage across an unloaded circuit. you arent getting this. the circuit was closed the lamp should have been lit it was not. thus there was not enough amperage since the circuit when open read battery voltage on the hot leg. simple testing led me to the conclusion that i had a corroded wire which i found to be the case. but even with a corroded wire battery voltage was present at the lamp socket. factory wiring will be enough to supply proper amperage and thus insure no voltage drop for the factory lamps. this is why i asked you if the lamp was lit to see if you were measuring across an active circuit that could have a voltage drop and as we can now see you werent. you obviously didnt read. you never asked if the circuit was closed you asked if the lamp was lit. duh of course the lamp wasnt lit why would i be checking a circuit that worked properly and lit the lamps no shit sherlock but by your statements what would be the purpose of larger wire. my point exactly there is no prupose to it unless you are using a different lamp from the stock one. according to you the wire size means nothing and that is completely wrong. incorrect. you failed to read everything as usual. once again youve stuck your two cents in and found that you needed a nickel. what he also says is that the factory wiring is too thin and the switch is not really up to the task and are causing voltage drops that are preventing the lights from reaching full intensity and he is probably correct. ive checked many factory headlamp systems and never found a voltage drop with the system in proper working order. once you do some research and understand what a voltage drop is you will probably agree as well. i have and i dont. i understand perfectly what mr. stern is asserting and i know it could happen but in a well designed system it does not happen. thus his blanket statement that many systems drop to 11v when
