Fisher plow connector problem

Q: eisboch wrote i replaced the batterys on my 97 turbo diesel last weekend. they were the original from-the-factory units so i expect after 170000 miles they were due for replacement. the truck wouldnt crank on a couple of cold mornings recently though although after i charged them up - everything seemed to work fine at least for another few weeks until the next time it wouldnt start. so the sears die-hard guy tells me i need an alternator replacement. he gives me this little printout of a test that indicates that the alternator has a bad waveform and needs replacement. his mechanic can do it later in the day with a napa alternator. i passed. from all indications i have the alternator is fine. the voltmeter fluctuates a but when cold - i presume due to the air heat grid - but after the engine warms it stays rock solid at slightly over 14 . just like it has always done. im inclined to think i dont have a problem. comments appreciated. tia. jim hall 520 exc 950 lc8 adventure turning money into noise... i wouldnt even listen to anything a sears die-hard guy has to say. i wouldnt trust them to check the air pressure in my tires. eisboch i agree with this. a few years ago i had a 1990 f150 with the 302 v8. couldnt get rid of it fast enough i went to sears for an oil change. i needed to xmas shop and figured id get the oil done at the same time. the sears tech told me he needed to check the entire electrical system of the truck at a cost of over $300 just for diagnosis. he said the alternator was putting out too much. also told me the volt gauge in the truck was faulty because it showed a normal reading. i asked him what he was doing messing with anything other than an oil change with my truck. i left and never went back to sears. i drove the truck another 2 years without a problem before trading it in. i wouldnt trust sears automotive to even look at my grandmothers wheelchair. bob i hope that you were not dumb enough to pay him for non-requested and unauthorized work. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .
