Firefighting-Ok a little off topic

From : dave com

Q: thats an old jerry clower story except the players have changed. it was the ledbetter family truck and all the ledbetters were hangin onto the truck as it drove into town with the fenders going flop-a-flop. uncle versy ledbetter drove the truck up into the fire. aunt pet mrs. ledbetter had her bonnet off using it to point.... here stomp over here and all the ledbetter children a dozen or so were using their overall britches to put the fire out. the final punch line was exactly the same. my girl friend sent me this item. since im ex-firefighter..i can relate to this stories. one dark night outside a small town in minnesota a fire started inside the local chemical plant and in a blink it exploded into massive flames. the alarm went out to all the fire departments from miles around. when the volunteer fire fighters appeared on the scene the chemical company president rushed to the fire chief and said all of our secret formulas are in the vault in the center of the plant. t hey must be saved and i will give $50000 to the fire department that brings them out intact. but the roaring flames held the firefighters off. soon more fire departments had to be called in as the situation became desperate. as the firemen arrived the president shouted out that the offer was now $100000 to the fire department who could bring out the companys secret files. from the distance a lone siren was heard as another fire truck came into sight. it was the nearby norwegian rural township volunteer fire company composed mainly of norwegians over the age of 65. to everyones amazement the little run-down fire engine operated by these norwegians passed all the newer sleek engines parked outside the plant.....and drove straight into the middle of the inferno. outside the other firemen watched as the norwegian old timers jumped off and began to fight the fire with a performance and effort never seen before. within a short time the norse old timers had extinguished the fire and saved the secret formulas. the grateful chemical company president joyfully announced that for such a superhuman feat he was upping the reward to $200000 and walked over to personally thank each of the brave though elderly norse firefighters. the local tv reporters rushed in after capturing the event on film asking what are you going to do with all that money vell said ole larsen the 70-year-old fire chief da furst ting ve gonna do is fix da brakes on dat focking truck....! .

john a reichert wrote guys the trailer is a goose neck and the truck has the goose neck attachment in the bed which i would think put more weight on the rear wheels. these were spinning nicely. really couldnt see what was slipping on the front. also the truck has the original michelin tires with 43000 miles. my experience with the original michelin tires that came on two of my trucks were that they were great on dry or wet pavement and would work fairly well on fresh ice. however they were the very worst on mud and snow. going up a incline as you describe and on grass especially green grass is about as bad as driving on slush ice. your biggest problem may very well be the tires. iirc these were michelin a/s treads and they simply wont grab. keep in mind also that you have a lot of torque that easily allows you to slip traction. i still think that regardless of whether you have a goose neck or a rear hitch trailer that anytime you travel on a incline the force of the load is shifted back no matter how slight which certainly doesnt aid traction. use to be a guy around here named fritz that pulled a horse trailer so maybe if he is listening in he can give you some experienced advice. good luck.............. jerry .
