Q: i have an 2003 ram ext cab with the 4.7l and mine does it to. my mileage was 18mpg back in the summer but dropped down to 15mpg during the winter. i believe it is the combination of re-formulated gas and the fact the transmission does not shift into od until the engine warms up. just my 2-cents. have a 2003 ram ext cab with 4.7l engine. on cold mornings ill notice a surging when i first start up. doesnt last more than a minute or two but that coupled with about 15 mpg combined makes me wonder if i should take it in for warranty check. or is this normal gary i have a 2003 dodge dakota quad cab with the 4.7 and mine does the same thing. not all the time but usually when im just creeping up to a stop sign i can feel it surge. i know this isnt an answer but yours isnt the only one doing it .
