Express window schematic help

From : deke

Q: theres some high powered brain matter over at sci.electronics.repair that could probably sink there teeth into this for you. explain as much as you know what info you have and your test results and somebody over there will build you a circuit that will do what you want and empty the ashtrays. deke absolutely sure. im not an ee but im positive its an ic. first its got 8 little bitty pins dual inline package...whatsat doic and second its smt. theres no way in the pits of hades that thing carries the window current promise. ive still not finished the schematic for the entire switch spent the weekend installing remote start in a diesel with a manual transmission and making the door locks multi-stage but im convinced the full current doesnt run through the ic and im sure its an ic. there is a relay to carry the current and that relay seems to be controlled by the ic and/or the one smt transistor on the board right next to it. the relay is a nec high-current relay i was able to use the numbers on it to find the nec document for it. im not sure what year the switch came from i got it from a wrecked pickup at the wreckin yard but the date on the board indicates 01 if memory serves ****but**** it *works* in the 1998 pickup express and all where the 98 didnt have any express anything. im tellin everybody its all well and good that some cars are using data buses the 2002 dodge truck does to a *limited* extent the ccd for example but this one does *not*. that switch handles window current i have the factory service manual and 1 it shows no other devices in the circuit besides the switch and the motor and 2 it states that the express feature is contained in the switch. furthermore that switch has the same pin-out as the one did in 1998 i am convinced that the manual and my observations are correct; that pcb contains *everything* necessary to control express in one direction. all the evidence so far indicates that. now what i need to know is what that ic does or is. or i need a sparky to fire up his brain and tell me how to do the same thing with discrete components and/or off-the-shelf ics. thank you everyone for your time and feedback and help on this. i appreciate it. --hc are you sure that you are looking at an ic and not some big power transistor. what is carrying the motor current btw you are correct in that the 98 does not use any computer on its windows. what year did this switch com from -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving in some cases that may be true however in the case of my dodge i feel that is not true about it using anything other than the switch in the door panel. i say that because 1 the number of connectors on the switch molex are the same as the number of connectors on the molex of a 1998 which did *not* have express windows i know i bought it brand new and its now my fathers so nobody had a chance to change anything to be any way other than factory. 2 when i connected the auto-enabled switch to the old 1998 non-auto-enabled vehicle it *worked* it auto-rolled the window. i have the factory service manual on the truck and in reading the schematic i find no connection from the switch to the ecm or any other devices besides the door locks and windows. thanks for your help. --hc the feature is controlled by software in the body controller. the only thing in the switch is a different value of resistor for this function that tells the body controller that you want the express down function not the regular down function. this is how several different switches use the same wire to the controller. the voltage on the wire changes depending on which switch is pressed. some versions use a part of the trace on the pcb to sense the motor stall current at the end of motor travel and some use a over current signal from the motor control driver ic. look at the st and infineon semiconductor web pages for examples of the driver ics. on 11 mar 2004 092854 -0800 hboothe@gte.net hboothenospam@gte.net wrote hello all. i put this in both the regular and truck flavors of this group because the switch which i refer to may be used on other dodge vehicles not just the pickups. on the late model dodge pickups sometime after the 1998 model year the drivers side window has an express feature. the switch assembly is made by eaton and via testing by pulling the auto switch assembly out of a later model dodge and putting it in a 1998 that didnt have express windows i have found that the express feature is fully contained in the switch. what im trying to do is draw a schematic of the circuit and then build more circuits just like it. whatever this circuit does to detect the window being down all the way works and is relatively simple compared to some other methods of building an express feature and it only uses about 14 components ma
